This talk was given at the Advaya event Consciousness: Re-Defining Our Parameters with Rupert Sheldrake and David Luke on 3rd December 2018.
Talk Description: The Mind beyond the Brain:
Most scientists assume that the mind is located inside the head. But there are good reasons for thinking that this view is much too limited. People can influence others at a distance just by looking at them, even if they look from behind and if all sensory clues are eliminated. People’s intentions can also be detected telepathically by animals from miles away, and some people can tell who is calling them before they pick up the phone. Our minds seem to extend stretch out beyond our brains through attention and intention. And they are also open to more-than-human forms of consciousness, both through spontaneous mystical experiences and through spiritual practices.
About the Speaker:
Dr Rupert Sheldrake
Dr Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than 85 technical papers and twelve books, including Science and Spiritual Practices. A former Research Fellow of the Royal Society, he studied natural sciences at Cambridge University, where he took a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and philosophy at Harvard University, where he was a Frank Knox Fellow. He was a fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and director of studies in cell biology. From 2005-2010 he was director of the Perrott-Warrick Project, funded by Trinity College, Cambridge, for research on unexplained human and animal abilities. He is currently a fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, near San Francisco, and also of Schumacher College, in Devon ....

I'd like to be able to access Rupert Sheldrake's thoughtful mind, every time a materialist/skeptic scoffs at the belief consciousness exists outside the brain. His ideas are evidence that reasoning and intelligence is generated from the mind with a large dose of grace.

No doubt Rupert operates on the margins of "acceptable science", and the areas into which he ventures make many scientists feel uncomfortable, but credit where it's due. The experiments he devises are pretty clever, given the shoestring budgets he has available and other restrictions.

I think driving on highways would result in many more accidents if people couldn't "tell" the intentions of other drivers. I think one could set up experiments using cameras focused on the road ahead. The driver would focus on a driver in front perhaps a quarter of a mile and "guess" when the other driver would turn left or right into another lane. In my own experience, I often can sense when a driver will do this and suspect everyone can do it.

Dr Rupert, maybe this might add something to your research. What I experienced. Try to keep it short. I came home on a Friday-evening. Tired. Empty The news on the radio started a 8 pm. The present or reports. But I coundn't understand a word of what he said. I FELT something in the right part of my brain. I'm not sure of that. I think so. But more important, I got overwhelmed by love. The unconditional one. The very sereen and true love. I saw my paper on my desk. But I was not able to read it. Something was going on. I felt a loving presence. Very strong. And something, SOMEONE tried to reach me. I knew it. I told my friend and said he started feeling weird because of my reaction. Sereen too. We looked at eachother and where both thinking the same. But none of us two dared to utter what we were really concluding. I went to bed soon. New day, everything almost forgotten by being busy with tasks and responsibilities, life just went on. I went buying food at the streetmarket. I came back and my friend said that my mother called. I had to call her back. She had bad news. My mother told my dearest auntie died. My first reaction was unrespectly:" At what hour" It was euthanasia. 8pm yesterday. That very moment. She didn't want the people thar she had cancer. The distance was 130 km. I have no doubt that she came to tell me goodbye. She raised me a long time and our relationship was based on true true love. This is not a coincidence. My friend added he was thinking the same as me. We were both thinking at her. Not knowing she was ill. I started to listen to Dr. Bruce Greyson. This was MIND-boggling. It has more to do with the near-dearth-experiences. But as you say so clear. The mind extends the body. I know it. Our brains filters what we need. Our brain that evolved in function of our earthly material needs, survival, material and relational obstructions Because with time, space, matery, gravity, obstacles. We would not be able to function with an open universal consciousness. It would be chaos. A mystery. A beautiful knowledge. But I can't talk about it. Taboo. Thanks for your great readings. It's fascinating, comforting not to be alone. There are hundred of thousands, much more by wich it is just evident and normal. Respect. Thanks

Fluid body motions like dance/martial arts cannot be explained by the nervous system alone, nerve impulse is mostly chemical moving ~ 150 fps, say foot to brain then back to foot, with brain mediating movements, no way too slow. Amazingly our electrically conductive Fascia, tendons ligaments dura blood CSF, is home to our vibrational mind intuition system that reacts instantly, faster than light, connecting minds and universes outwardly, and can be tuned manually as exemplified in Rolfing/Myofascial Release massage techniques ~~

Consider that instead of consciousness being an emergent quality of material form, material form is an emergent quality of consciousness ? And also ; that the mind is an emergent quality of the form emerged from consciousness, an interpreter, that translates consciousness awareness into conceptual awareness, employing the form of the brain, as well as the body, for sensory input, as well as intellectual pondering an emergent quality of curiousity ? 🤔 This allows the brain to maintain it's roll, but not in the strict sense advocated by the materialists, rather as the platform through which the mind operates, the mind being awareness analysing and looking to explain the sense of being aware 😉

Any how it’s ridiculous to say the waves we broadcast also process and develop images. That’s not what’s happening the processing happens within. When we sense some one staring at us it is the waves being processed within.

A young man of average build and height held the door for me as I entered a convenience store in my neighborhood. We both got the day's paper, made a coffee, got a muffin from the glass case. I went to the ONLY register that was open and paid and HE held the door for me on OUR way out. HE DIDN'T PAY. He couldn't have. I was at the only register open, he was holding the door for me going in and coming out and we both left at the same time. 1.How did he learn this kind of camouflage? 2.Does he do this every day? 3.Has he ALWAYS lived in the ''cataract'' of other people's vision? *I doubt that ONE out of a hundred Security Specialists viewing the CCTV footage of that day would have spotted the thief.

There is no such thing as matter or solidity or the physical. If you read physics 101 you would find out that atoms are electrical energy fields. What do we consist of? 7 billion billion billion atoms. Why do you stop with traditional science that does not take into account the movement of subatomic particles? The book HANDS OF LIGHT written by the physicist Barbara Brennan shows us all what we look like as ETERNAL NON SOLID/PHYSICAL electrical energy fields and holograms.

The mind beyond the brain. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hV6YmKGmatFlocU This statement should be the 'mind behind the brain'. But that would do. I mentioned genes behind the brain along with our own senses - not other people's senses. Indians used to think for the elephant to be realized by blind men, every blind should touch the elephant to think what it may be. Then collectively, they can call the creature 'elephant'. This is the definition of knowledge - what we all collectively find to be true. Otherwise, it may be a fallacy, whatever we think is true. The the mind behind the brain is God. He is in everyone of us individually, in our mind. You can ofcourse ignore Him; some do. But thats is their business with God. That's exactly where consciousness comes in.

There's some evidence to suggest that memories are stored linearly out from the heart area. On one side is emotional memories, on the other, observational.
