Of the dozens of Rupert videos I have watched, he has yet to refute the simulation theory. And it is a logical fallacy to claim that the very 'self' that lies to you constantly, consistently, and irrefutably should be the same 'self' that should be trusted to tell you the true nature of everything.

Have you ever seen a Stereogram? The 'Truth' the Stereogram shows us is there in front of us. Training and work doesn't make us see it. It's a point of view, a different way of looking at it. When you see it you try to explain it to someone else and you realize you can't. It simple, super simple, yet almost impossible to explain. There are 'techniques' to see them but some people may spend years trying without results. Others can do it in seconds. It doesn't change the fact that the image is there all the time in front of us. And it's Beautiful.

I love this meditation. I am concerned however, that I depend too much on guided meditations because it is easy for me to rest in awareness for 45 or 60 minutes or so. Time passes easily with Rupert’s voice. I wonder if this is okay or if I should be doing unguided meditations as well. I do rest in awareness for (very) short periods throughout the day as Candice O ‘Denver suggests. Am I too dependant on Rupert? Anyone?

I stuck on Rupert’s first statement. Please help me to understand. How is meditation the reversal to the word attention if object of meditation is being attended while meditating? Aren’t we putting the light of awareness onto the object of meditation? Or maybe this is next level of meditation he is talking about. But how to relax practically the attention from object of meditation backwards to awareness itself?
@gabrielkobler3044
@gabrielkobler3044 2 жыл бұрын
I know it's been a year but.. Awareness is not an object like all other things/phenomena. Thus, when attention goes to awareness, it doesn't actually go anywhere in particular. The way he explains meditation, there is no object of meditation in the sense of a perceivable object. Just awareness, which is a non-object. Awareness is not perceivable as a phenomenon, like you would perceive chairs and tables and thoughts and emotions.

It’s all very clever words but how do you do it? “Allow your attention to sink into its source” right and how do we do that ? It is when we stop engaging with thoughts but just allow it. Hence witnessing or watching your thoughts is the first step. You dismantle useful practises but you replace with practical ways of doing what you are saying
@robmaric
@robmaric 5 жыл бұрын
Rupert is the most practical teacher I've ever heard. He is constantly trying to get you to see for yourself. He's like a living guided meditation. He is the best for this, in my opinion. His main way of getting your attention to sink into its source is by asking you 'are you aware?' and then that feeling you go to (make sure you're not just answering intellectually, go to the feeling of being aware) is where he encourages you to spend more and more time.

I just watched some of the vid and I see what you mean - it seems more suitable to those who are already familiar with the stuff he's talking about (which I am so it's a good vid from my perspective). I'd definitely recommend checking out his other videos if you're new to Rupert. I don't know of a more practical, clear teacher that exists now or in history.

I see thinking as the bubbling up of smaller and larger impulses, like emotions but they insist they have a particular place or object, most of the time. When I was trying to study philosophy in the eighties, I stopped the moment the professor said thinking happens in language. Not at all, you just use langue to sow the beads together after they appeared. Language for example would have given me no clue that I can use this image. Now I go buy some crema Catalana :)

Midiwave Productions semantics. Break that down into 4 propositions and I'll believe you. Fact is that neither belief nor truth can be said to be anything that stands self evidently. All experience is either provable , unprovable or debatable. Truth falls under that category of debatable because no one is able to confirm or deny any experience had by another. None! Even what we mean be red , pain, wet , etc is totally unknowable for certain. Plastic melts when heat is applied. This spoon is plastic and heat is being applied. This plastic spoon is melting. There is truth This is truth Truth is known by/when... Look there is ...and it is displaying truth... A circular argument and a fallacy. It is only belief that can be accepted on mere deduction , but cannot be said to be truth. It can be said to be a true characterisations of something that's is true right now, but not truth. Beliefs are conditional. Truth is unknowable , impossible to demonstrate, and impossible to verify. If nirvana is extinction and nothing can be known by conditional elements then either nothing is the truth that you cannot know or there is no truth. Obviously one can say they have experienced what they will claim is truth but they can never share it in any way, nor can they even agree a frame of reference that can be verified. From this it stands that nothing is being communicated that one can be certain of and nothing is being experienced that one can share or know what it is as ultimate knowing or awareness is never known nor demonstrated. These are simply body-mind experiences and shared accepted familiarity and social and language rules. Even so , we notice every single interaction between teacher and seeker is fraught with comprehension difficulties of even the simplest terms . The old adage ; I am not your teacher. I have nothing to teach You have nothing to learn Go away and stop bothering me seems to suggest what might be happening
@TheYanbibiya
@TheYanbibiya 7 жыл бұрын
Midiwave Productions : These responses are only subjective statements. There is not one provable fact there is not one demonstrable experience that anyone can point to as this or that . This response is text book cartesian and is simple one of many possible positions for the mind-body problem. So, whatever your position on this is it us simply a position or point if view. Seen as no one can demonstrate truth that fits any coherent logical framework by definition what is left and most o viols is a qualia of belief (made up of individual ) "knowing". This is on agreement with not only all psychological and philosophical knowledge , but also can be found in the teachings of the vedas and Buddhism. There is nothing that can be known and there is no way of demonstrating or perceiving the elements or components of this in the same way that copper expands in heat. This metal is copper and it is being heated It expands. Gurus and for that matter your own experience are simple mind-body tricks or illusions. Take the keenest disciple or devotee and the most apt adept , and what does both real experience and demonstrated reality tell us? There is no way known, that causes the truth to be known. It has never been shown to be demonstrated or repeatable. No adept can be shown to share the state of another. The adept themselves cannot demonstrate it. No seeker after truth ever finds anything that they can show or describe to another so that the other receives whatever it is the seeker THINKS OR FEELS ( the body aways remains including its sensations ) . So , what is truth? If you insist in statement , assumption and inferences then you are free to do so and after all , all of life is based on folk psychology and collective consciousness. It cannot be otherwise. However , to make the statement this is Truth cannot ever be demonstrated to anyone's satisfaction and no one has ever been able to demonstrate this. So, we are left with belief. The bible (st Paul ) says , ( in echos of eastern mysticism ) , all shall pass, nothing is permenent , nothing matters at all. For now only three things remain ( are needed ) faith ( a certain mind-body state of certainty that is not full but subject to change ) ,hope ( a distant horizon of belief) and love ( the rising above mind-body limitations , but still dependent on the vagaries of it). Then he says , but of these only one love will remain ( necessary), He then cites examples of why ...and what qualities love has. This demonstrates somewhat of an attempt to is llustrate the see-through to the human ( mind-body ) condition. It stops short of any other claim Elsewhere Jesus says , I am the truth and the life , etc. He however frequently points to the paradox of the truth. No man can see God he says . What is truth, he asks. Likewise , Buddha talks about the unknown and unborn. And, in his discourses he again and again points to mind and uses( mind-body techiques) to aquire states of Mind until what he describes as a non -state . However , it should be obvious he is still using the Mind to describe this and as such the Truth cannot be anything but a mind-body "truth". Even so it cannot be agreed upon or demonstrated . It can only be talked about. This is neither truth nor even admissible evidence that we would recognise or accept in daily life. Yet, we make assumptions and inferences acceptable in the seeking of some other state. To take Rupert demonstration and teachings : The meditation sessions are no different than brain states one can induce by oneself very quickly . They are not stable and yet do imprint on parts on the brain to provide experience. Not truth however. A crude but necessary confrontation : I trained as a hypnotherapist some years ago. I can assure you that ( and hypnotherapy has a very surprising research Base in renowned medical and psychological institutions ) the states and experience demonstrated in hypnotherapy have the same descriptions, illicit the same experiences as the meditations Rupert , et Al share. Again, this should be blindingly obvious. Same narrowing of attention . Same language. Same distraction. Same appealing to inner experiences . Same visual utility. Same brain. This does not equal truth. Some, if not upwards of 80% of the questions Rupert fields from seekers are so basic that a first year philosophy student would cringe. Rupert himself does an admirable , but often quasi jib of trying to keep his answers in a recognisable logical framework. I applaud him for that because I can only think of a very few who call themselves teachers who have snow here near his qualities. Still, back to the main point. What do seekers and in this case Rupert think they are seeking and/ or have found? The answer is nothing. Repeating once more for clarity; there is nothing here that is truth. There is nothing that can be known to be truth. States certainly exist . But states are not truth. The cat is in a state and moves eloquently from state to state. It is however not truth . It is a cat. One more question I would ask of you and seekers and Rupert; what is it you think happens when truth is found ? Do forgive the grammatical errors. My eyesight is not great and I am typing on a very small phone.

@@TheYanbibiya"What do seekers and in this case Rupert think they are seeking and/ or have found?" I'm pretty sure the answer is happiness. The end of suffering. Peace. I have found a lot of what Rupert has said to be true. I don't believe anything just because he says it (and he doesn't want us to).
