Rural populations are often faced with the challenge of accessing non-contaminated water and this project facilitates the task. Arturo Vittori is an Italian artist, architect and designer. With his wit and beautiful mind he came up with the idea to found the humanitarian project “Warka Water” in 2012, in Ethiopia. Visiting small isolated villages up on high plateaus in the north-eastern region of Ethiopia, Vittori witnessed a lack of water. The inhabitants live in an unique environment but often without the utilities they would need on a day-to-day basis. In order to survive they walk miles and miles to find water, which is often contaminated in that area. “Warka Water” saw this problem and developed a structure to collect and harvest water from the air, as an alternative water source. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
