That Mercedes they're riding in, BTW, was left behind by Gen'l von Falkenhorst at the end of the Occupation. The 1939 Buick that followed was gifted to Crown Princess Märta on her visit to the US by GM; it is still in service there and in occasional use.

People probably don't realize or have forgotten that King Haakon of Norway was Queen Elizabeth's great-uncle. (Haakon's wife, Queen Maud, was the daughter of Edward VII of the UK.) They're family (in more ways than one).

King Haakon's birthname was Carl. Prince Carl of Denmark. In English the name Carl is often translated into Charles, so in the British royal family he was known as uncle Charles. The current King Charles was actually named after him.
