I’ve played Skyward Sword since release, it’s one of my favorite zeldas, and I’ve played through it about a dozen or more. I’ve never had a single issue with needing the portals to be more available. IIRC the majority of save statues will take you to Skyloft and they’re not difficult to travel to. It’s only inside the dungeons or handful of caves where you can’t travel to the sky, but like in previous Zeldas you can usually warp to the dungeon entrance. Since the NES Zelda has always had some form of warping system. It’s possible the amiibo functionality is intended to add a more BotW modernity to SS so that fast travel is available everywhere? Not entirely sure. TL:DR Fast Travel in SS is not essential in any way.

people are making the zelda amiibo a much bigger deal than it is, skyward sword has statues all over the place to save and go back to the sky, the amiibo is pointless
@skadi29113 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU Seriously, people are getting so mad about it when most of them know nothing about the game. Skyward Sword is one of the least open-world Zelda games ever made, with the closed areas and the sky that acts as a hub with warp points everywhere on the surface. You're basically never more than 2 minutes away from a bird statue. This thing is even more pointless as it'd be to add fast travel to Mario 64.
@KyleHBlowers3 жыл бұрын
Well, as an amiibo collector, it’s not entirely pointless bc it’s a beautiful sculpt of a beautiful version of Zelda- gamewise, absolutely 1000% agree it’s pretty pointless. It’s kinda the dowsing function of the sword in a way. Somewhat useful a handful of times like when hunting the kikwi, but not really. I wish they made the amiibo function more helpful w gathering items for equipment upgrades. Make it give link a timed buff that doubles the amount of gathering bugs and gold necklaces or whatever.
@skadi29113 жыл бұрын
@@KyleHBlowers There're already items in the game that allow that if you want to max everything out, so don't worry about it.
@KyleHBlowers3 жыл бұрын
@@skadi2911 not worried, just an idea for a more useful amiibo function. I’m blanking on which items you’re referring to- are you talking about the medal you can purchase/find? If so, I’m suggesting something that could stack w that bc the medals increase encounter frequency, not the actual amount. Having the amiibo act like a 2:00 potion that doubles all gathered materials would be way more useful than its current function and also not alienating to ppl who don’t want to buy the amiibo.
@skadi29113 жыл бұрын
@@KyleHBlowers Ho right, i get what you meant now. The medals do indeed only increase the drop rate and not the amount. That would be a nice feature for the amiibo to increase the amount, that's true. The actual feature it has seems kinda pointless to me, unless you really suck at the game and break your shield in the middle of a dungeon :-/ It's adding an easy mode when the game is already super easy.

Love ya two Podcasts, keep up the good work, I listen to this when I can.
@skadi29113 жыл бұрын
To inform both you and Gaijin about the Skyward Sword amiibo situation, people did indeed overract. Skyward Sword is one of the least sold 3D Zelda game (like og Majora's Mask) so people mostly lost their minds on a matter they know nothing about, since most of them either didn't play it or gave up 10% through blaming the controls. I played through the game several times. The level design is quite unique for a 3D Zelda. The world isn't interconnected and semi-open world like previous titles in the series. The areas are separated and quite small, acting more like dungeon-esque levels than like actual landscape that gives you that sense of travel (almost like metroidvania games regions, but splitted with the sky acting like a hub). There're also a ton of statues scattered throughout the surface, to the point where you're basically never more than 2 minutes away from a statue. Even in dungeons, there're multiple statues and you can warp back to the entrance using one, and from there go back to the sky using another statue that's always in front of said dungeon. When the game first came out, some criticisms were actually blaming the number of warp statues for making the game to easy. The backtracking that Gaijin mentions has nothing to do with that. People complained that you revisit previously explored areas with new abilities to find new dungeons (like you do in a metroidvania game for instance). These areas could also have some specific sricpted events later on to mix things up. People were mostly mad because they didn't get their douzens of typical elemental themed Zelda areas. But the statue situation is irrelevant to that, there're almost no instance in the game where you'd need to go into an area, than go back to the sky and immediately after return to that same area. You often change areas, yes, but given the way the amiibo works, i'm assuming they'll limit its use to make the warping point disappear if you go to another area regularly after using it. Otherwise it would allow for very huge sequence breaking. All and all, this thing is more like an easy mode, to allow you to get back to town to refill potions or repair your shield (which you won't ultimately need anymore). The game's is actually very easy so there're really almost no instances where you'd need to do that anyway.

The Skyward Sword amiibo isn't really a big deal at all. The only times you need to head back to the sky are right after clearing an area or a dungeon, and the game is pretty good at slapping down save statues (which you use to go back to the sky), exactly where you need them. Being able to go back any time will be useful if you want to go do a side quest when you're midway through a dungeon, but who does that?

The Skyward Sword checkpoints to Ascend to the Sky are carefully placed to be Convenient when you need them so there really isn't much backtracking at all. I only really liked nintendo and microsoft presentation. I think nintendo's way of doing e3 is the best: 20-45 min of just trailers then followed by 6 hours of gameplay and developer interviews on specific games. Mario party fans were disappointed that they got a new game instead of New boards DLC for the Half-Baked SMP but after seeing the gameplay and QoL improvements of Superstars their tone shifted. My Feelings on Rise shifted more to the negative side of things. It seems that the Event Quests Rewards are not improving yet They are still selling 20-35$ of Cosmetic Microtransactions a Month. Yes I understand that MH is not a Live Service Game, But it feels like it's being monetized like one. Still a great Game that was definitely worth the 60$ though.
@frazer_19973 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's like the aspect I REALLY don't like. DLC Cosmetics, in any game, are always overpriced, and Rise is not exception. However, they are overpriced because when you buy them you are not only purchasing a cosmetic, but supporting post-launch developement. Rise, after the first two updates which we can clearly tell were cut content from the game due to covid delay, is offering barely anything in terms of event quests (and the collab looks very lackluster too), yet they keep releasing the paid overpriced cosmetics, like there is content production to be sustained. And from the "roadmap", we can tell there are gonna be two more paid DLC drops this Summer, with update 3.2 and 3.3. If you wanna have a light support for Rise, that's fine I guess, but don't try to squeeze every penny you can with paid DLC. Also, tbh, the support is lame compared to what 4 or Gen offered.

I'm gonna have to heavily disagree with Gaijin and just express my thoughts on Capcom's e3. It was disappointing simple as that. Now let me give my reasons. First, I am excited for Stories 2 and I think that's amazing what they did for RE Village. But when it comes to the news to Rise and the Esports sections those were just Meh. What makes me more critical of Rise now is that they are making more paid DLC than good Events quests. And this is severely concerning because I love MH and I don't want it to be treated like a money cow. Also the Event quest rewards are kinda lacking atm. Like its not as engaging as it used to be. The paid DLC is really concerning because I don't want Rise or any monster Hunter in the future to turn into a shitty paid DLC just for cosmetics. It's just concerning that all of the event quests are very weak and have less impact. Now enough of that and let's look at Capcom E3. I Genuinely think they could've just announced it as a post or something on their channel and let people know "hey we are doing this". Now I don't like to be negative but This was one of the worst E3's. Simply because it felt like recycled information.

In terms of knowing what the content of a presentation is before I watch it - I don't do that. I don't read press releases or speculation, I just look at the schedule, see what I might be interested in based on who is presenting, and watch it. And I'm sure that's the same for many people. This is not me commenting on whether or not a slot at E3 was valid or not. It's more that expectations or not, a lot of people want these viewings to be organic. My expectations were tempered going into this because we already had a summer roadmap. What struck me about Rise's placement in E3 is that it more or less gives paid DLC top billing. Downloadable content is prominently shown, and displayed above the Event Quests for each month. World and Iceborne did have a lot of cosmetics as well, for your Room or Pendants, Poses, etc and it was always part of the dev diary but it didn't seem as pushed? I guess it stings more for layered armour going this direction. Wyverian Ears were an Event item in Iceborne, a paid item here. The new off the side fox mask would have been perfect for a Festival item in World/Iceborne. Will Prance be paid DLC? What else? With Event Quests dripping out is their expectation that people will gravitate toward DLC to fill the gap? It's concerning because a lot of these things would have previously been Events. I really enjoyed Monster Hunter Rise. I finished my crowns a few weeks ago, made every entry in my main weapon, learned weapons I'd hardly touched before. I wouldn't have done this if I didn't love it, but I have a number of criticisms about the game the same as anyone and a primary one is quest variety. I agree with Ruri that there should be more monsters on more maps. I would use expeditions to fight monsters on different maps even though I wouldn't be getting as much loot. I also agree with Gaijin that Events don't necessarily need awards. They really don't. Give them a small HR modifier if you must, but as long as they provide an interesting scenario I'm all for it. Unique combinations of monsters. Do something to elevate mid-threat monsters. I don't think we even have an equivalent to Troublesome Pair this time around? How about giving us Really Troublesome Pair - simultaneous Apex Rathian and Apex Rathalos in a one zone area? Give us a four elder gauntlet in a one zone? I feel like Rise did a lot to make me like some monsters I didn't care for before and I'd love to see them become more relevant. Well, 'it is what it is.' I'll see you in "The Fated 4.0" ;)

The skyward sword amiibo won't affect the game that much. The statues are pretty common and the only places that don't have statues are the dungeons. I feel like the feature that the amiibo offers shouldn't be a thing at all.

The 50 show thing was last year, and the entire event was the inaugural year of the Summer Game Fest. Keighley definitely learned from it, but Summer Game Fest is still an umbrella of events that stretch from the kickoff last week all the way to Gamescom's Opening Night Live. There's probably just less events contained in it this year.

Porbably won't be anything fancy since Rise will also come to PC. Maybe Samus armor again like in previous games. Kinda sucks for the PC players anyway. First they lose out on the Horizon Zeor Dawn stuff in World/Iceborne and in Rise they would lose out on eventual Nintendo stuff that gets added to Rise.

@@yoshikawoshi3728 Yeah but those weren't also coming to PC. The entire 4th Generation of Monster Hunter was exclusive to Nintendo Consoles. I kinda doubt Nintendo will allow Zelda or Metroid stuff on Steam.

I’ve played all the metroid 2D games in some capacity, definitely recommend picking them up. If you have a functioning wii u, I’m pretty sure you can pick up zero mission, super Metroid and fusion on the eshop there and they’re very good. For metroid 2, you can play either am2r if you want something more traditional or you could play samus returns for 3ds if you want something closer to what dread will be. All of the 2D metroid games are imo at least 8/10s

1:21:31 I do not count the "Apexes" as new monsters, literally darkened versions of the base monster with their deviant move set.

Well they are different fights so I’d say they are different monsters, deviants are also changes in coloration in some cases

Speaking of the Akyward Sword's amiibo, I didn't even know that it lets you do warp between the sky and the surface. I don't even plan on buying the HD remaster because I already played the original game on the Wii to death, but I got the amiibo simply because it's beautiful and that particular Zelda is my favourite of all the Zelda incarnations. It would be a shame to lock such a function behind a paywall, especially when that paywall cannot even be bought. I checked the Nintendo store a week ago and was able to place the pre-order, in which it was listed as sold out the very same day in the evening.

41:56 I am glad to hear Gaijin is willing to give FFXIV a try. If he does decide to start, I recommend August, so he can have some time to get ready for the FFXV event, which is coming back in September and has arguably the best event rewards in the game.

I'm actually glad there was nothing for me in the whole E3 (except maybe Elden Ring, but knowing me it's too big a time sink) because I can barely keep up with releases of games I like. I wanna get Legend of Mana and I wanna play Stories 2. I also still play Stories 1 because I was late to the party... I'm probably biased, but I can't imagine people have nothing in their backlogs to play if there's nothing new for them.

Yea, I love gaijin but man, some of his takes in this video were just not spot on, I completely understand his excitement about the Capcom E3 stuff but………man, I still say Capcom could have shown more at E3, they just didn’t have enough to talk about, and their presentation was oddly structured, imo the Street fighter stuff should have been first, then they could show the long gameplay for Ace Attorney, and THEN they show the stories 2 stuff/announce the demo, and the Rise talks should have been at the end, I think if they would have structured it like that it would have gone off better with the community. (Or atleast you wouldn’t have this big uproar we have currently about it.) And Gaijin, the monster release schedule of Rise isn’t answering the question “is it just me or does Rise have allot more paid dlc than World”, and it’s all cosmetic BUT I think having layered armor as paid dlc is crossing the line a bit, especially since they sell it in pieces instead of letting you buy the full outfit all in one go. And the event quests honestly just need to be more rewarding, or just have more variation, so far Rise’s event quests have been disappointing to say the least. And yea, I’m not expecting a 4.0, I fully expect them to just announce the expansion for Rise and leave the base game in the state that it’s in, and if that is in fact what happens I’ll be heavily disappointed. I’m of the opinion though that Capcom just really dropped the ball with their presentation, it could have been structured allot better, and really I think if Capcom would have say announced something like Dragons Dogma 2 at the end you maybe wouldn’t see as much negativity and blowback about their presentation as you are now, that and as I said if the presentation was structured allot better than it was.

As someone who played most of stories 1 and didn’t like it, all the stories 2 trailers look the exact same to me, and a friend of mine who’s seen most of them because she was watching the rise stuff with me and feels the exact same. Its like the dq11s trailers constantly looking similar in directs the year up to that release, except the stories 2 trailers have been so close together
