Starting in WWII the Soviets had a policy of using grass fields as temporary air bases instead of fortifying they air vases (Nato tends to fortify Air Bases instead of moving the planes around). The Soviet policy require the planes to use unprepared air fields, thus much heavier fighter's landing gear then on Western planes and Soviet planes can operate in area with a lot of FOD (Foriegn Objects and Debris) unlike western planes.

An S400 is not one object sitting in one place, it is multiple launchers and radars spread over square miles. It’s possible one element of an S400 was taken out, but not the whole system.

The cost of one ATACMS missile is $2 million. Last year Kazakhstan sold 10 Mig-31’s for $100,000 a piece (decommissioned but easily upgradable). Even if they are kind of rare collector’s items, the Ukrainians invested very heavily in destroying something worth a fraction of the value of the weapon they used to destroy it. Also, to my knowledge, the pilots were not hurt or anywhere near the aircraft. 50+ year old vintage soviet aircraft can be quickly/cheaply replaced, skilled pilots can not. In the media, this was a propaganda victory for Ukraine only but also, in reality, a strategic defeat. It shows that the two sides are fighting different wars. The Ukraine and its backers are fighting a PR war, while Russia is fighting an actual war.

I don't know if they were decoys or not. I do know that many are saying the planes were not active and were being used for parts. Also we know Russia likes to to monitor these missile systems to create better software for the air defenses. Even if it is flat out incompetence, you will never hear the same analysts being as critical to "The West"/Ukraine's constant errors. Also, Crimea has no effect on the actual battlefield. The real line of contact is hundreds of kilometers long, it is impossible to defend every inch, especially since US is doing all the targeting

Russia has no plans to capture Kharkov (a city of a million) with their 20K odd troops (eventually). But they will get very close to it and build defensive lines. Then they will look for NATO troops and Right Sector forces and target them. Plus all the usual artillery, tank, ammo and fuel depots. Also electrical and internet infrastructure. Eventually the Russian speaking population in Kharkov (after six months?) will get fed up with NATO and Right Sector forces. NATO and the Right Sector (whatever is left of them) will be kicked out of Kharkov and Kharkov will vote to join the Russian Federation. Zelensky's term ends in May 2024 so essentially every city in Ukraine gets to vote to join the Russian Federation. And the oblasts too of course.

Indeed 20K+ (low tier unexperienced) soldiers to take 1M city not feasible. Just as in 2022 50K soldiers to take Kiev at start of SMO was a fake attack to force Zelensky into peace negotiation (which failed). Most likely it is to secure a small "buffer zone" to stop Budanov's "James Bond" Team attack on Belgorod who's quarters/bases are likely in the 2 cities that are now targeted, then force UAF to transfer a important chunk of remaining forces from Donetsk front line to Kharkov to facilitate advances and full take over of Donetsk region and finally to prepare a possible future take over of Karkhov but the latter is far in the future in my opinion if it happens.

The American "Seep", a version of the WWII Era Jeep that was amphibious was well liked in on the Eastern Front during WWII given the gradual slopes of most Rivers on the Eastern Front. At the same time the Seep was hated in the West, for most Western rivers had very steep sloops and the Seep just could not enter the river to cross the river. One reason for this is most Western rivers are dredged to make them as Navigable as possible. Current MiG-31s have a couple thousand hours left in their air-frame, meant to tie the Russians over till the Su-57 nominally, and ideally the MiG-41. The ones still in warehouses are kept as spare-parts. MiG-31s are extremely big and complex airplanes, they operate near the edge of material and engineering limits for the time. Therefore, they go through parts very quickly. I don't expect the Russians will replace these two destroyed ones, more probably will move some from the Far East over then replace these with Su-35.

It wouldn't be and it won't happen anyway. Most of the countries south of West Taiwan are signing security agreements with American and Europe as fast as they possibly can. West Taiwan clearly understands now that an attack on Taiwan would be absolute hell for West Taiwan. They have decided that American imperialism is far more acceptable than Chinese (West Taiwan) imperialism. The countries in Africa have caught on to West Taiwan's economic games and are busy throwing them out. Most of Europe now wants nothing to do with Russia, which isn't really anything more than a gas station with a surly attendant at this point. Russia also has the Dutch Disease, a rapidly aging and unhealthy population, and an economy that is going to collapse sooner rather than later. Besides, Russia and China really don't like each other. Russia has materials that China wants, no friends. and an exhausted military.
