In this video, Bill Freese prepares the Model 132 Drill Grinder for basic drill grinding operation.
In this instance, he sets the workhead angle to 118 degrees, uses the #4 cam for a righthand drills, and engages the oscillation on the workhead for drill pointing. The relief drop is set at 12, due to the half-inch drill at 118 degrees.
Recommended settings for different drills and angles can be found in the machine manual. For taper shank drills, use the one of the rear steadies that slide in the back of the machine to stabilize the tool. On the larger drill, Bill does a plunge grind in order to the achieve desired results. To grind a lefthand drill, a different cam is used (#1 cam for two-flute twist drill, for instance), index to the lefthand slot, and crank counterclockwise.
Keep in mind as to not drill too much of the drill or your timing will be off.
