No one can really claim to have invented the heavy metal "gallop" guitar rhythm or claim to be the first to use it, but here Alex is doing it years before Iron Maiden.

Lerxt's tone is wicked on many parts of this. That big ringing distorted tone is huge and clear at the same time. Not too much gain, so you can hear all the notes in their full glory.

@BW-kv9wj3 жыл бұрын
@@ratio567 Don’t get me wrong. All are great solos and great lead guitarists. I was raised on Rush and Black Sabbath. I had all their records, including all of Jimi Hendrix’ and Pink Floyd’s. I think Lifeson and Iommi’s style and technique put them over the top in my humble opinion. I had quite the record collection in the 70s and 80s. One could argue that Jimmy Page belongs in this list as well. Or even Randy Roades.
@ratio5673 жыл бұрын
@@BW-kv9wj I agree about page just not Roades, I was raised on rush as well ( my pfp ) and can agree that Alex is a monster at guitar , like la villa strangiato and jacobs ladder, and lommi was amazing as well with the solo from snowblind, as well as into the void ( idk why no one talks about that song, it kicks ass) but Gilmore just has more complex solos

@BassManGilbert - i believe the original tracks from All the World's a Stage, as 'toskus' said were given & ripped & split as you say, because there are very very distinct undeniable differences from the studio version. not only him playing a full chord for the last note of the riff measures at 0:33 (as he does today live), but then the Overture solo itself is not even in the same ballpark as the album. regardless, we're just making conversation, we really appreciate you posting them!!!!!!!

He used a Fender Super Reverb starting on Fly By Night (you can hear which songs are Marshall and what's Fender). That's what you hear in this. There were no distortion pedals in the '70s except fuzz.
@nkmcfrln6 жыл бұрын
rg7120 Overdrive and distortion pedals started to happen around the release of 2112. The Boss OD-1 was released in 1977 and the DS-1 in 78. Alex didn’t use a distortion pedal until the recording of Moving Pictures. Up until the tour for 2112 Alex used a fuzz. He never relied on fuzz/overdrive/distortion pedals that much or even wah pedals.
