I'm in the middle of a "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road" re-read... knowing what this song represents in Neil's life gives this track (and the Vapor Trails album as a whole) so much more power... I read the lyrics and know the absolute hell and recovery Neil dealt with in the late 90s. It's hard to listen to this and not tear up a bit.

This came up on my playlist as the sun was coming up. Sunrise in the mirror indeed. This song always gets to me, knowing the backstory. Especially when riding, gives you a lot of time to think. Green Knight ehhhh, this song was probably the most personal for Neil, it was the first song he had wrote after coming to terms with his loss. It's music, so different songs strike different chords with people, but in terms of the emotions involved, they were most certainly the strongest when written.
@richardbaxter527010 жыл бұрын
bigdog91paper Fair point, but I can imagine Red Sector A would have been more personal from Geddy's POV. I know he doesn't write the lyrics, but the story behind his parents and the holocaust would definately make that an emotional one for him to sing. Either way they're both great, emotional songs and I love them to death :D

It may be true, that drummers dispose of sticks this way when they break, but I've never seen Neil do it in a video and especially not with the focus that it was given at the end of this song. I think that it is exactly what it appears to be...he breaks the stick as a trubute to his fallen family.

@@rush4ever1 I think his voice would have sounded fine on Time Machine had it not been for the sinusitis/ear infection he had during filming. Nevertheless he was starting to sound a bit yelpy on that tour (maybe even 2nd half of Snakes & Arrows from some of the bonus DVD footage) and had developed this sort of yodeling thing in order to hit the higher notes. I've seen Rush many, many times (including this song live) & the crowd is as still as an oil painting during this tune because at the time of this filming, this song was pretty new. Sadly, I'd say 95% of the attendees, like the Pavlov's dogs they are, are there to hear only a handful of familiar tunes. Crowd noise is added!
