'Subdivisions' is THE SONG of my life. It changed EVERYTHING I thought about music and being a musician! My Dad gave me the 'Signals album for my 16th birthday in 1982. I had heard of Rush, but I hadn't caught the BUG yet. Some songs have to grow on you, not this one! From the second the Keyboard started I was in AWE!! When I looked at the sleeve of the record and only saw three men I couldn't believe it. This song made me a Rush fan for life. Geddy Lee's mind blowing Bass playing made me a Bassist. It taught me that not every song has to be in 4/4 time or about SEX, DRUGS, and ROCK and ROLL. It made me a better song writer. I have owned ALL of their studio albums and love all of it, but 'Subdivisions' will always be MY Rush song!! :)
@motorlife70376 жыл бұрын
Exactly, mine too, when I hear it I am back (in my case 1985, when I heard it first) the intro turns back time into my innocent teens, when I was exploring music, and this made me buy all Rush records, I just started from the first one. I become guitarist and have great respect to their creativity, now I see how complex and evolving their music is. One of these bands you just can listen to over and over. Pink Floyd is another (but I wish they were as good musicians as rush in the beginning)

Neil Peart is the most "busy" drummer I've ever seen in my lifetime. He don't just keep a beat like a lot of drummers do, he is constantly in motion hitting his high hat, working it with his foot, and using all the other cymbals, rolling on the toms, changing the beats, etc. I didn't really pay attention as much as I have since he passed, but lately I have really been listening to a lot of Rush and watching their videos, and paying particular attention to Neil's drumming. He was a beast on the drums and in my opinion he's the best ever.

I thought Geddy delivered his best vocals of the 21st century on the Clockwork Angels tour.
@nickbrevitz67472 жыл бұрын
@@anthonynasti1279 Geddy was a monster up to 2004, after that he lost a lot of his upper register. But he sounded great on his last tour, he made a bunch of changes to his diet and that seemed to “brighten” his voice.

A very good Friend of mine was riding in my car on day and he asked " man do we need to listen to Rush"? I said no we don't! I pulled the car off the road and stopped. He said what are you doing? I said letting you get out and walk because I'm listening to Rush. You see it doesn't matter what anyone says about Rush good or bad. And it sure doesn't matter what is said about Geds voice. I've heard it all. But since 1974 when I 1st heard them on WMMS I was hooked. True fans who love rush as I do just don't care what anyone says about them.

I remember driving with my friends to go surfing at Huntington Beach in the mid-70's listening to 2112 cranked up- getting stoked (and stoned:) before paddling out. We'd never heard anything like that! Geddy's voice was sky high and the musicianship was spectacular! It still sounds fresh, 50 years later!

How can you not love RUSH? Really?
@VangeliRock4 жыл бұрын
I love how at end of their career, Geddy could sing anyway or anyhow he wanted, even though, honestly, (and I am original Rush fun,since 1973, growing up in Toronto) some of his vocal sounds were cringe worthy. But this is who Rush was. They had nothing to prove to anyone, they rose to the top, despite all the criticism and they did it their way. God Bless Rush.

We live a short drive from Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie that of course inspired Neil's lyrics to the song...where he worked as a teenager at the summer fair. The willows in the breeze are still there, as is the lighthouse and (newly re-constructed) pier. And now they have a new *Peart Pavilion* named in his honor at the park - a beautiful facility. RIP Neil - your legend will live on for generations. Your lyrics and rhythms were a huge part of the soundtrack of my youth and great memories.

When you go to musicians and ask them to create a list of the top five who they believe is the best drummer, guitarist, bassist, etc, Neal, Alex and Geddy are usually on that list. That's a pretty awesome package.

It's amazing to see the enormous impact that Rush has had over the decades. From watching this amazing video, I was able to see the "old timer" debut album Rush fans that were in their 50's and 60's and then the newer generations, late teens up till early 30's. It was fucking incredible!! I myself started to get into Rush in '82 when I was 12 and never looked back. Since Neil's unfortunate passing Rush's music has meant even more to me and I would be willing to bet millions of other loyal fans!!!
