Words cannot express the true outpouring of love and support from the Rush family and to Nick n Lex. I am recovering from a meningioma which is a benign tumor in the brain. The problem was that it was the size of a fist, so very little room for grey matter. Surgery was successful in removing the tumor, however, it left me with no motor skills on my left side. A week in the ICU, 2 months at a rehab center, and six months of PT and I am doing ok. The arm is getting better, and I can get around with a cane. Rush got me through a really rough time. My speech therapist asked pick a song. That song was Subdivisions. She said to close my eyes and count how many times Alex said Subdivisions. For that brief moment I found joy and starting to remember driving around town windows open and volume up. Much love and many thanks, everyone, especially Nick n Lex who made my year.

Hey Stephen, thanks for this. This brings me right back to Toronto VMCI high school in the '70's. Great music & great times. Glad to hear about your recovery steps. It sounds promising. One thing I learned during months of rehab is that by sharing recovery time with others you can gain internal strength and change your life and others for the better. Power on dude 🤘😎👍🎵🍁

Stephen! DOOOOD! What a story, and how many of us has Rush helped us in our lives to move forward and keep moving toward the horizon. Thank you for your story, it is VERY inspirational, and I pray that progress comes easy and to a full recovery (as much as it can be. A very good friend of mine who is a fellow illustrator/designer, Kansas, King Crimson, Opeth and Rush fan, also had a Brain Tumor decades ago, but has fully recovered). . . . I hope these 2 essay's that involve Rush warms your Pratt/Dirk/Lerxst heart (((💓))) edit: Ugh! This very oddly happens below EVERY Rush reaction that N&L has done, where my comments go POOF! :( Maybe some way I can link the essay's to another reply or a comment you make in another reaction. But thank you for your story, and I KNOW that Rush will carry you through with your strength and focus. Take care and thank you for introducing more Rush to Nick & Lexi. "Anthem of the heart and mind A funeral dirge for eyes gone blind We marvel after those who sought New wonders in the world New wonders in the world they wrought. Wonders in the world!!!"

Nice touch NnL for Stephen. On this same album is a song called 'Beneath, Between and Behind'. Those are the very first lyrics Neil wrote for Rush. I believe many of us relate to Stephen. I don't care what ditch you find yourself in. There's a Rush song to pull you out. Rush music is a planet in itself. Neil's words are another planet and the two orbit one another.

I'd known this song via the '76 live 'All The World's A Stage' album since 1989 (when I was 19) but heard this studio version for the very first time only two years ago, after my now 18-year-old Son had discovered and mentioned it to me 😀 And it still feels/sounds fairly unfamiliar to me today! 😅 And just as I was wondering why the intro seemed to be a step lower in tuning than I know it, you could hear how the recording tape machine's speed was switched back to normal 😆

People should check out Geddy's book tour show from Toronto where Alex was the guest host. Two friends hanging out, laughing and talking at a concert hall they used to see concerts themselves as teenagers. If you haven't read Geddy's autobiography, get it, it is fun, enlightening and touching/tragic.

Alex loves playing those descending notes. The first few albums had it in songs, briefly as well. It was what captured my love for RUSH because i love those descending notes in any song. And yes, FLY BY NIGHT has similar descending notes.

On that live version, you can hear Geddy in the beginning of the song working that bass like the rhythm guitar part on this studio version, when he switches from the clean(acoustic)riff to the electric guitar and Geddy will be hitting the high notes.

Hi guys ... I actually bought the 1st 2 albums by Rush long after buying about 10 albums after 2112. I have all these albums on vinyl but ended up with these 1st 2 on cd only. When vinyl was fazed out, I then got the rest of Rush on cd. Vinyl is back, but sooo expensive now. It's great hearing such early Rush so late, especially their debut album, which is more raw and very much in the vein of Led Zeppelin. I love also "Fly By Night" the entire album is brilliant. This is a great track to end with indeed and even better live ! The live album "All the worlds a stage" is a belter, with stunning live versions of "By tor and the Snow Dog" with Alex sounding like Jimmy Page on Dazed and Confused. ... and then there is this song ...live ...is simply my favourite verson of all. ...."One, two , buckle my shoe ." Don't take too long listening to this live. Boy are you gonna love it !! Byee Jim X

Guys, obviously this song demonstrates the early Rush which is so Led Zeppelin-influenced, so it's possible it is reminding you of something by LZ. But, it's also cut from the same cloth as Fly By Night and Lakeside Park, and early stuff like that, so it figures that it's somewhat familiar. But, you guys, definitely listen to the live version of this song from All The World's a Stage!! It is quintessential 1970's Rock Concert groove! Listening to that recording really takes you back in time to an incredible concert, with the electricity in the air -- and the copious Pot smoke -- and the fans completely dialed it with the band! It's a great, updated (for 1976) version because they use effects on the P.A. which really tweaks the vibe and atmosphere of parts of the song that you have to hear (especially the last 10 seconds or so)!!
@garyspry14443 ай бұрын
I agree that this song has a similar sound to other Rush songs, including Fly by Night. I think bands have that signature sound or chord progression that they are comfortable with or just like and come back to.

#nicknlexrequest I'm once again requesting Ren's 3 part 13 minute piece 'The Tale of Jenny & Screech'. Someone said that Alexia has a background in Criminal Justice, and that is another reason why I really hope you guys react to this masterpiece (I rarely use the word Masterpiece, when describing music, as I think it's one of the most overused words in yt comments). This piece is referred to as a Shakespearean Tragedy, and I believe it's also the piece that caused his fans to start referring to his music as BARDCORE. If you guys react to this, please pay close attention to all the details; Ren's facial expressions, all the lyrics, his movements, the way he plays, everything. Ren is a master storyteller, telling a story like only he can, and when you get to the end, you'll then realize why I said all that I said here. Here's hoping that my words have sold you on reacting to this. And feel free to pause as often as you want, or need to : )
