It was epic to hear it played that last tour. My husband and I went to 11 shows on the R40 tour. The whole tour was, as you expect from RUSH, amazing but getting to see & hear Jacobs Ladder and Natural Science over & over in 2015, was one of the best things in my life. So glad you reacted to this. That whole R40 Live DVD is amazing.

Ahhh...Rush: always the "studio version" whether in studio , rehearsal or concert. yet always raw and fresh no matter how many performances.

I was driving earlier today when thunderstorms occurred in the Boston area. As the rain stopped and the clouds started to dissipate, the beams of light from the setting sun shone through the clouds and it reminded of this song "Jacobs Ladder".

John always remember that they are only 3 fkn guys doing this. I've seen this in concert. I saw the R40 tour and every tour since 1976. They are so tight together. They are just so amazing. Just 3 guys.

3 legendary masters of their instruments. It was an honor to see them in concert 13 times. Thank God for video and music, for Rush's music will live forever and amaze generations to come. RIP Neil Peart ❤️

With regards to the syncopation, and the genius that is Neil peart, what to me is often overlooked, when you find people covering it for example, and saying "look I can do it!", is that it was written that way to begin with. The composition of the song is incredible including the percussion. It was not adorned with somebody keeping the beat after the bulk of the song was written. Anybody can copy a genius, but to compose this in the first place is the real pièce de résistance.

Alex also has foot Taurus peddles, "a keyboard". Watch his leg movement in Xanadu, Exit Stage Left. If anything it give you the excuse to watch it again. The background sounds and fills are/were done 99% of the time by them. Fantastic musician-ship.

I caught this tour at the United Center when it came to Chicago, which turned out to be the last time I'd ever see them. "Jacob's Ladder" was the highlight of the concert, except for maybe "The Camera Eye." Crap... now I'm sad. Sigh.

Great reaction and song. I wonder if Neil and the band knew Neil had cancer? From what I've read. He knew 3 years before he passed. RIP NEIL!! Sure miss this gentleman as well as the band.

A year after his death, Rolling Stone published an extensive piece about the last few years of Neil's life which includes interviews with Alex an Geddy and many others. To summarise, his family noticed a change in his demeaner and cognitive ability in the summer of 2016, a year after the R40 tour. It's well worth checking it out.

One of my favourite bands since childhood in the 70's. My Toronto homeboys. Musically they were bang on until the end but Geddy's voice was shot for many years. It was cringe worthy at times sadly.

Please, I implore Rush fans to stop reacting to any live performance after Different stages. There are a few good songs after that but Geddy ‘s voice simply died after the Hold your fire tour. So please, everything up until Moving picture is brilliantly captured on Exit stage left. Everything from Moving picture to Grace under pressure you listen to the grace under pressure tour. Everything from GUP to Hold your fire, you go to A show of hands. Then from Presto to Test for echoes go to Different Stages. That’s it!!! The rest is ok I’m terms of set list but…. Yeah horrible vocals. I saw them 21 times live…. Enough to see the decay of my favourite band ever. Thank John !!! ;)

Well, obviously, because they were a good 35 years younger back then. Considering they were all pretty much in their dotage during the R40 tour, I think they did the song justice.
