The guys in Rush are MASTER musicians, and their songwriting is at an untouchable level. There has never been a band that can reach Rush’s expertise.
@paulfromt.o.73845 жыл бұрын
Many people simply don't realize the work required to be able to perform at a level like this. Rush, they themselves admit, rehearse to rehearse. First individually for month or more, then for weeks in a small arena or warehouse (usually in the GTA - Greater Toronto Area) building up to an actual final set list. And then they will perform the entire show for 1-2 weeks either in a larger arena and/or the first venue of a new tour. Perfectionists all three. A real solid unique mix of natural musical ability, intelligence and dedication to be the best they can be, live and in studio. Few bands can say this.
@dorarie31675 жыл бұрын
Paul, you're right, of course: they are perfectionists. However, I always recall Geddy's comments about learning from the headline acts they toured with before they broke big. In particular, they cited KISS as a band which, while not everyone's musical cup of tea, was extremely hard-working and took their business seriously. He was admiring of their work ethic, and I'd like to believe it had a lasting effect on them. I like the weird juxtapositioning of a pure rock-n-roll band (KISS) and a more cerebral prog band, with the former kind enough to give the latter an opportunity to tour in front of enormous audiences and cut their teeth with some very professional musicians as influences. Rush have always been grateful to KISS for that.
@EchoesDaBear5 жыл бұрын
Paul, you are so, SO right...seen these guys 10 times, and they always leave me feeling like they've given 110%, nothing half-assed (and these were to home-town T.O. fans - (I'm from Kitchener)) Consummate professionals is this Holy Trinity from Toronto! Per Dor's comment, now I am a Kiss fan, but Rush is in an upper echelon (light years in fact) above them, but I do give credit and high praise for Gene, Paul & co in taking the chance to have these three 'nerdy' boys from Canada open and tour extensively with them. It's certainly where they got their work ethic from - and say what you want about Kiss, they were and are a hard working band that always strove to give their fans THE BEST rock 'n' roll show they could offer. I've never heard of late starts (ahem, like Guns 'n Roses, or Stone Temple Pilots), or disrespecting their fans! (Gene only seems to disrespect celebrities!). Rush has been no different - I actually think they far surpassed the 'teacher' and make perfection their art form. How else can you have your live output sound better than your studio versions?!! (IMHO, for many, many songs!)

Neil would also be practicing every day for about a month before he would join Geddy and Alex for full-band practice.

Truly inspiring and a great way to get comfortable with the material, and focus on being relaxed on staged, putting every bit of emotion on stage. So that when it's show time with a crowd it's just fun and excitement.

I would love to see your reaction to their (sad to say) last song. "The Garden" Live Clockwork Angels tour. One of the things that I really enjoy in your videos is that you Give Alex the credit he deserves. Geddy and Neil always get name-checked as some of the greatest to play bass and drums, and most just ignore Alex. To be able to play at Geddy and Neil's level puts Alex up near the top as a guitar player in my opinion. For your own personal enjoyment, I highly recommend you take the time and watch the documentary on Rush, "Rush, beyond the lighted stage". It will give you a really good foundation on the band(plus it's really good). Thank you for the videos, they bring a smile to my face to see a new listener learning the great secret, Rush.

Loved the look on your face seeing the roadie coming out to put the rubber chickens into the sausage machine..... The hilarity of trying to explain the Rush backline to a novice. Between Alex's dinosaurs, to Geddy's dryers, to the popcorn and sausage machines, back to Alex's short women. The only one who has anything remotely normal is Neil. But then his kit is all that and the sausage machine.

Great instrumental. The chickens go back to Snakes & Arrows Tour with the rotisseries behind Geddy Lee. Kind of reveals life on the road. Just like when they had the clothes dryers up on the stage. Time Machine Tour was a reflection of going back to 1982 when they had released Roll the Bones & of course toured the LP. During TMT they played all of Moving Pictures LP in it's entirety. Awesome tour. Keep them coming Ruben. Still awaiting The Necromancer. If you choose to do another instrumental down the line, do the Main Monkey Business. Have a great day my friend!!! (Bill)

Over and above all the adjectives used to describe these master musicians, what sets them apart even more is the humility shown by the sense of humour they inject into their shows - whether it's the South Park band video, the Deli band RASH video, where all three of them play crazy characters, etc., or the crew members coming out dressed as butchers loading chickens into the rotisseries behind Geddy! They're truly remarkable human beings, particularly within the context of being famous around the world to music lovers and musicians! Oh, and don't forget Alex's Hall of Fame 'blah, blah, blah' speech! That was perfect!!!

Funny story about this song. I saw them live and they messed up this song. Geddy played one extra round where he should have cut into the "break". They kept going, kept playing, they talked it over (while they were still playing the song) AND THEN MADE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN, ON PURPOSE to make the song work into the time signature! Absolutely incredible musicianship. My mouth hung open.
