Rush was at their absolute peak this tour. Not having to wrestle with the "evening with" two set marathon, they still had youth, plenty in the tank and poured it all the way out.

Excellent video and sound quality! Most people who criticized the camera work may not realize that this was back when videos and even pictures were strictly forbidden at concerts and your camera would be confiscated if caught bringing it into the arena, let alone recording with it. So you basically you had to sneak to capture any videos. I think this was as well done as you could get, all things considered.

I think the bootlegs of Clockwork Angels are better than the official release. The sound is so compressed, drums muffled. How bout Alex Lifeson showing flashes of Eric Johnson licks on this tour? This show they played perfectly. In Worcester Massachusetts it was the towards the beginning of the tour, really good but not as good as this. Not as good as Presto a year and half before. I had this bootleg on audio back in 93'. The Roll the Bones tunes are amazing.

Geddy and Neil are on FIRE on “Show Don’t Tell”.... I’m speechless. Really this whole concert and tour was beyond epic, and for me signaled that they were returning to their power trio roots; more refined, more relaxed, and ever more capable on their instruments. They are the Great Masters of music of our time- without a doubt and without equal. Virtuosity on full display by all three right here.

One question though what in your opinion is the best sounding show from the Moving Pictures tour? Once again thanks for all the shows
@SnowdogPL
@SnowdogPL 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks... I'm a fan of Rush so I do this "job" with real pleasure :) The best sounding show from the MP tour? In my opinion there are two such bootlegs (except for "Exit ... Stage Left" of course): show from Chicago, which took place on March 1, 1981 ("Chicago, IL 3-1-81 - The Definitive Edition") and show from Anaheim, which took place on June 12, 1981 ("Anaheim 1981 Master" or "Anaheim, CA 6-16-81 - The Definitive Edition"). My favorite is the second show, because it's closer to the version of the ESL. shrill Mark I don’t care for them either. They’re beautifully crafted drums. Some of their finishes are out of this world but they’re overrated in my opinion. A lot has to do with how they are recorded and produced but I’ve never liked a single one of Neil’s DW kits. His red sparkle kit with coated ambassador heads made me wonder what the hell he was thinking so I check out a set for myself. I could never get a decent sound out of them so I stuck with my Ludwig Super Classics. The Ludwig factory in Monroe is/was stellar. They use to let Joe blow to come in and try out their drums. When I bought my drums they even refinished my Tama 22" gong bass drum to the exact color of my Ludwigs like Neil. They don’t do that anymore unless you’re famous which sucks. I had to replace my 6" drum and that one drum was just about a grand because they considered it a very specialty drum. I love them. Listen to the beginning of “Where’s my thing”. Neil’s small toms are so tight it sounds like a raindrop hitting a puddle. AMAZING!!

Keyop68 There’s a video interview with Neil discussing and playing his R40 “modern” DW kit. The program is called “Masters of Resonance”. Towards the end of the program he is when he’s test driving his kit and I must say they don’t sound half bad. I don’t know what kind of microphones were used to record it but I can hear tones coming out of his drums that I haven’t heard in YEARS!! That that doesn’t mean I like the way they sound but it’s a big improvement over his Time Machine and Snakes and Arrows kits and they absolutely sound better than horrible red sparkle DW’s with coated Ambassador heads! Neil was and always will be the shit but once he switched to DW and started taking lessons from Freddie Gruber (who convinced Neil that he was a jazz drummer in a rock drummers body) I didn’t follow his playing as much. His playing just wasn’t as creative as it use to be but that’s just my opinion.

apiece ofdirt I agree , Neil didn’t need to re invent himself, he needed to push on . I hated test for echo. I think the tama kits sounded the best

@@jamlive6650 From one fellow Rush fan to another I definitely respect your opinion. However me personally, I just don’t care for their live sound once Neil started endorsing DW. I think his Ludwig drums sound killer in this particular video. Neil’s Snakes and Arrows kit were the only DWs I thought sounded good and were especially better than those dead sounding Romanian River Oak drums he played during their r40 tour. One of many reasons I loved this band so much, they always said because they as music fans themselves always wanted to hear people replicate their music the way "they" were familiar with it on the album so they painstakingly tried very diligently to do that themselves. Being a Zep fan also I always had a problem with Zeppelin live, they'd improvise everything so much and never never played anything like their albums which for that reason I later found peace in never seeing them live because of that.

I totally agree! Great sounding high toms! Here’s a fun fact, this drum set signifies when Neil changes from double bass drums to the double kick pedal as well as placing a floor tom on the left side. :-)

I saw them I think it was a few days after this at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts. I call this my Neil Peart show because after having seen them a few times prior to this, first time for signals, I watched Neil 90% of the show. My seats were right about where the person who recorded this were.

This was the tour they brought back Freewill since '82-'83 and I was in 7th Heaven! It was the second song which always sets a great tone for the rest of the show. If I'm not mistaken, management reached out to Nirvana the previous tour (Presto) but their management didn't even consider it let alone inform Nirvana! Instead, Mr. Big got the gig.

Remember that, thought the same thing when I was at the Montreal show. The raw strength of Freewill for me portended to great things to come that show, and from the band in later albums. Remember thinking " these guys are getting better with every passing year... Amazing..!!!! So many great songs that night and in this captured masterpiece! The energy, sound and crowd are just soo perfect. Thank you for the upload and thank you Rush for ALL of your music, words, enlightenment, and the sheer commitment you all gave live, each and every show.

. That Ludwig kit was so killer sounding. Especially after having to put up with the DW kits which you can't hear most of the time.
@apieceofdirt4681

+George Dosal Soooooo true. Neil’s R40 kits sounded almost too dark. His snares had a nice crack to them but I could hardly hear his smaller toms on either one of his kits. They should have either been tuned higher or double headed because they just sound too dead. When I saw them in Greensboro this past May I shit at the sound of those kits because it was like after almost 20 of playing DW they finally gave Neil a more expensive kit that actually sounded worse than all the others. John Good is overrated.

that damn DW was too boomy and sounded like shit to me, DW sucks!! saw the R40 tour front center 10th row and i was not impressed with the drum sound. yes those concert toms sounded weak, higher tension i say too. Neil should have stayed with Ludwig as is obvious here with this video. his HYF kit was the best ever to me, live and studio.

Rush has helped me all through life more than any band, ever, 100x over. Been to every tour since Vapor Trails on 2 legs each. Looking back, I realize how so foolish I was not to beg my dad for a ticket back on this tour. Neil's drums bring out every song on this amazing setlist with Show Don't Tell and Ghost of a Chance A couple of notables, sounding far better than the DW kit.
