He was indeed unusually reserved for a guy who is considered to have been one of the best rock drummers that ever lived... but his drum kit... now that wasn't humble lol. But his wide range of styles, often within the same song, genuinely commanded the equipment, it wasn't just for show. In fact, he rarely brought to the stage the full kit he used in studio. One rare chance we had to see the full Monty was when he performed on Letterman.

When I was 15 in 1975 I was in a K-Mart feeding my model building habit and I meandered over to the record aisle...they were vinyl then kids, and I came across a band I'd never heard of named Rush. All The World's A Stage. The cover looked so cool. I bought the album instead of the 55 Chevy Belair model that I had intended to buy. I took it home and put it on my 8 track, AM/FM record player combo....hey it had 2 way speakers! Anyway Bastille Day starts and I'm hooked on the riff and guitar tone to start with...I'm a guitarist see. I listened to the entire album while staring at all the pictures on the album sleeve. I was blown away. I was taken aback at first by Geddy's vocals but it grew on me because it fit the music and the lyrics. Incredible lyrics. Incredible bass playing. Incredible drumming. Music that reached me and touched my soul. I have listened to every phase of Rush. Alex Lifeson has been an inspiration to my playing. His tone and style is constantly evolving. Thank you Rush for so many years of inspiring and incredible music. RIP Neil Peart.

Yes he could have been and was admired as a man, not just possibly the best progressive rock drummer of all time. In death though it seems who the person was is amplified many times over - resonation. Then you can fully feel the impact that someone had or has. Surely you are punched in the face when you heard the news. Double whammy when Eddie Van Halen passed too. These guys are innovators, artists and in their own right, geniuses. Love how it's the arts that truly inspire us more than something AI. The reason is that we have hearts, we are mortal and AI just doesn't care.

My mind is blown this is on here. My first concert. I was 15 at the time and made up a story of what I was doing to my parents so I could go unsupervised with some older, and quite honestly asshole friends. Huge memories.....so glad this exists. I know it was a 2 day show, I believe it was the second night I went to but not positive.

My wife and I saw them on this tour in my hometown of Greenville, SC. Our first Rush concert and their first gig on this tour. What a show! Talk about a tight performance! And now that Neil is gone it's such a bittersweet memory. What's worse is my wife passed from colon cancer three years later in 1993. If there is an afterlife, I hope somehow she has crossed paths with Neil and both can remember that show as a pleasant memory.

I'm not a hardcore fan of Rush per se but my ex-wife was and in the late 80's she dragged me to see Rush in Anaheim, CA and that night I became a hardcore fan of Rush live. I had never seen anything like that before, not from Van Halen, Boston, Aerosmith or any other show I had attended prior. Rush shows are very efficient, for lack of a better word, everything was so well organized the show went on without a glitch, which is rare. The band delivered the goods swiftly, from the opening with Tom Sawyer and the end with excerpts from 2112. Sound quality was stellar for an arena, I had seen Van Halen at that same venue some years before and the sound had been horrible. Rush sound engineers had planned this well in advance (I assume) with large acoustic panels strategically positioned to kill resonance and echo. I can still feel my bones vibrating as we were pounded with generous bass and kick-drum thumps. Speaking of drums I had never seen such a huge kit before, nor had I ever heard a better drummer, still haven't to this day. He really used all of his equipment both acoustic and electronic to effect. Best live performance I have ever attended, and by far.

Kaveman Karl Cool that your wife is a hardcore fan of Rush! Rare bird. My wife would never listen to their music, nor attend one of their shows. I guess I shoulda asked that before proposing? LOL. I’ve always found the sound mix to be good at a Rush show. I believe Presto was the tour where they lowered the “mosquito netting” screens on all sides of the stage and flashed or projected lights onto the screens. I found that to be more odd than effective.

We all know musicianship is subjective and there is no one best player but Neil comes pretty damn close to being the one who could wear that moniker (RIP Mr. Pert). Alex isn't just an unbelievable rock guitar player, he's way beyond that, he is a guitar god and should be recognized for his greatness. His style and the stuff he plays is mind blowing. Geddy, well he's just a fantastic musician and his vocals are so unique, he just kind of brings it all full circle. What can you say, RUSH were just one of the greatest bands of all time. Ever since Neil died there has been nothing else allowed on all my playlists except RUSH.

My dad saw Presto when they came through Dallas that year. I remember he lamented that they didn’t play the tune Presto on this tour, at least not at his show. This is a fantastic upload- thank you. It has some unique versions of some songs- like Neil doing "Subdivisions" on his last double-bass kit. Presto is an album that comes alive in live performance. The depth and range of the different parts on the "Presto" songs really come out- and more of the true nature of Rush at that time is revealed. (They brought back the guitars, of course, even more so for RTB). The Pass and Show Don't Tell are good examples of hard Rush was jamming at the time.
