Geddy bass lines are never easy to learn. I truly admire and envy all of you who possess the skill enough to replicate the Master.❤✌️

Subscribed. Your interest in the less well known tracks was your big selling point for me. They did such amazing work on Power Windows and Hold You Fire. It is unfortunate that many of the bigger tracks on those LP's took attention away from the pieces which were true monuments of composition and technique (not to mention lyrical content). Open Secrets, Middletown Dreams, Emotion Detector, etc (Grand Designs) were ahead of their time. When I saw them in 2012, and they played MD and GD, I was stunned. Not only because they were largely "unplayed", but because they were even more relevant musically and lyrically today.

Thanks for your compliments, The Tor...well not every not was spot on but it was close...HA!!! I switched my hand position for..whatever reason.. at 3:46, and I kinda' scratched my way through the notes a bit...and at the end I clammed the lead riff to the outro... All of my vids have mistakes that cause me to grind my teeth to powder but I just have to live with them. Thanks for watching!

Thanks TJP for not "Holding your Fire" too long on doing yet another great performance. Love that song, and you just nailed it man. Bass pedals sounded awesome, Wal bass crackling with life, and liked the camera angle and background as well, oh yeah, and the Tee! Cool shirt. Can't wait for the Watchmaker to sprinkle you with more Rush dust so you'll give us fans more! We all appreciate ya.

@@johnsnow4555 Actually not really. The Fender is great for the 70s and post-1993 material, but the thin and poppy Wal sound can’t quite be perfectly replicated on it. You can get close but it won’t be exactly the same.

Play this bassline, while singing, while playing a synthetizer with his foot, it's one of the many examples that Geddy wasn´t human. Or in any case, an evolved kind of human lol.

Another excellent Wal-era cover. (Haven't seen you post any on CP in a while but I stumbled across this by accident.) One thing I was a little curious about...I recall Geddy saying in regard to the Wal's active electronics, "I don't really use them much." I was wondering if he meant that his tone was achieved with the lowpass filters wide open and the resonant boosts disengaged. Do you use the lowpass filters at all and/or pick attack for your Geddy tone?
@66TJP8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Dave! I run my Wal full out on everything but I do not use the push pull pots. I keep the pickup knob center. It's just the Wal, Rotosounds, my fingers, amp settings and some luck.

I've been watching your videos for years, 4001. Do you think there's some chorus on the bass on Hold Your Fire?
@66TJP7 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I could be wrong but I really don't think he used any chorus on that album...Geddy rarely used effects. At the end of LaVilla, the very last lick..Vital Signs solo section, a few other things maybe but I think on the HYF album, you're hearing the Wal pretty much as is.

66TJP Was trying to be facetious - I didn’t even think there was any bass on RSA?!?! Point being there’s nothing you couldn’t play and you have all the best and proper equipment that kind of puts the dagger into things. I don’t even play bass (not a musician at all) but could listen to you all day!

I like the way you play but it's not that easy to see what you are playing. If you are trying to do this for a teaching tool you need to fix that
