@pauljasper21366 жыл бұрын
Of COURSE he does. He almost sounds like a legitimate singer here. Sure there were synths in this period but who cares? They used them well. GUP was the quintessential Rush album for me, always has been (I know this song is from MP - but it could have been on GUP quite easily). The lyrics were better, no more Ayn Rand crap, geddy's bass lines are just ridiculous in the 80s.
@johannwilder14375 жыл бұрын
GuaranteedEtern, I agree...but I'd say his voice stayed good until RTB album (1991).

You're right. This is where his voice was the best. Early eighties.

@@frankgross135 They were also at their adult peak during the mid-80s (31-33) from ‘84-‘86 - not surprisingly they performed incredibly during this tour through the PWs album and tour. It happens to every male, every profession. Degeneration begins at 26 so physically men are slightly down from their physical peak by 32 but are far superior cognitively ...so it’s the aggregate of having the highest cognitive/physical cohesion that causes men to peak at this age. The music they pumped out from ‘80 to ‘96 is just crazy good. They were simply neophyte’s in the business in the 70s and even better musicians in the 00’s - but were noticeably tired, lost range in voice, and lyrically a bit lost (like Hemingway in Losing it)! But hey, that’s life. Thank god they happened to meet, become friends, and create timeless music and memories for eternity! The greatest band in the galaxy!!!

Your right he sounds great here but I remember Presto,RTB,Counterparts tours where he sounded quite amazing even when he played T4E song live and listen to T4E song on Different stages live album right at the end he does that sick high pitch wail “ECHO!!!” But yeah the 80s were just sone amazing singing for him

One of my favorite RUSH songs. Feel its probable their most underrated songs. Probably underrated because it came from their best album where Tom Sawyer and Limelight were heavily played and the others not so much. I believe it was their pinnacle albums. After this I liked Power Windows and after that it went down hill. I LOVE Rush. But the older stuff. I am like that for a lot of artists. I like the music I grew up with and when music was music and not RAP CRAP or the style seems not real rock. As Bob Seger would say "old time rock and roll"
@stevestruthers6180 Жыл бұрын
I agree, things did go down after Power Windows, and they tried to recover some of their previous greatness on Presto, but didn't quite hit the mark. Their in-between album, Hold Your Fire, had its moments with songs like Time Stand Still, though. I think what happened was they got into a comfortable groove of touring and recording the odd album, and with young families of their own, and needing to attend to family responsibilities they may not have had the time or energy to innovate like they did in their early years. I'd say they reached their nadir with the arrival of the OK-but-not-great Test for Echo. I know there are people who are huge fans of their later albums like Vapor Trails, Snakes & Ladders, etc., but for me, none of these albums had the spark and pull of 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Grace Under Pressure. I think Rush never really recovered after Neil went on hiatus in the wake of the deaths of his daughter and wife. For whatever reason, they were unable to pick up from where they left off and regain their momentum.
