ZX7 -RR the effects used on the very new sounding synths were an atmospheric extravaganza. Ditto for the sounds Alex and Neil achieved. Clever use of reverbs propel the synths into large atmospheric soundscapes and some good sequenced synths that have a very musical rock feel. I was 16 and aware of rush, just got a new casio cz101 and played this album everyday, still one of my favorite albums by anyone. Very good album to learn a little rock theory on, much like Moving Pictures was for guitar.

Never forget at the start of the solo in CTTH, Alex broke a string, and literally threw his guitar like 10 feet toward stage right(where someone caught it) while another guy ran out with a new guitar. Never missed a note, if you blinked you would have missed it, how Neil and Geddy saw and knew just where to double back to the exact spot was just unbelievable.

@duder6666 I think you're right, music is for the most part completely disposable now. I think that's why bands don't last as long either. I guess I'm old but I just can't bring myself to buy mp3s for example. To me, enjoying the album art, reading the lyrics and credits (especially on Rush albums) and actually having to take care of something physically is/was all part of the experience that made it seem more valuable. Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying all the Rush vids I put up.

No problem, it's an easy assumption to make. I didn't even realize until a few years ago that when Rupert Hine produced Presto and Roll the Bones that he played a bit of keys on those as well. In the early days Hugh Syme was also on a couple things. It's not like it was all done for Geddy though, he's still the principal keyboard player on those albums. Thanks for watching!
@austinschilling383510 жыл бұрын
Brilliant Record. However, I'm a bit confused. Did Rush really use a keyboard player on Power Windows, as MTV suggests 2:50-3:36? If so, on my 80's records and tapes, instead of a Bass Guitar, why do I hear bass coming from Moog Taurus synthesizer pedals on parts of songs where keyboard synthesizers are played? Other times I hear both keyboard synthesizers and Bass Guitar at once...
@brianshaffneraclc10 жыл бұрын
It isn't only MTV that said so. The liner notes credit someone (Andy Richards, if I remember?) for additional keyboards/programming, something to that effect. I would guess that, probably, it's more the programming/sequencing stuff --- like on Grand Designs, where you have that synth sequence and bass guitar at the same time. Hard to say what else. But, check out Moving Pictures credits. Hugh Syme played the synthesizers on Witch Hunt --- and there is no bass guitar while they are playing. Presumably, because Geddy did plan to play them live, which he did. Ged has stated he isn't a totally proficient keyboardist/synthesist -- that he learned things as he went. Apparently, to expedite things, help was occasionally used in the studio. And then Ged would learn to handle it for the live performance. Several albums credit someone else as additional keyboards/programming.

@rushtabconvideo Unfortunately, there's almost certainly no actual concerts that were filmed on the Power Windows or Signals tours. Any brief bits of footage you see like in this video just come from the cameras of those doing the reporting. Similar to the Buffalo 1980 footage or the Halifax 1987 footage. You can't confuse that with a full show. I suppose there's some tiny chance that those tours were filmed by a venue but after over 25 years I think the odds are almost nil. Wish I was wrong.
