You have to listen to this with "The Trees" .. this is the lead in to the song "the Trees" in this context. It is a MUST that you listen Broon's Bane with "The Trees"

Live when this was played it led into The Trees, when they released the vinyl record of Exit Stage Left it naturally led into The Trees on the vinyl release, when it came to the digital era of CD's this became a separate track hence why it is always split now on KZbin and elsewhere from The Trees.

Broon rhymes with June or tune. Bane rhymes with cane or lane. This song was from Exit Stage Left, which was performed live in Montrèal in 1981. Not much to which you could react, as it was meant as an introduction to the trees. "Mix of a lot of things" describes Lifeson's creative process to a T.

'Broon' was a nickname for Terry Brown, Rush's producer at the time - if I remember correctly he didn't want this intro to The Trees included on the studio album for some reason. So Rush only ever recorded this live version and named it Broon's Bane as a joke ('bane' is a thing that causes annoyance). For a slightly longer acoustic guitar piece by Alex Lifeson you could try 'Hope' on the Snakes and Arrows album (live or studio).

Clearly you are loved by the Rush family as we want you to connect to them by asking you to listen to Alex's classical guitar pieces. Keep up the great work Jone.

It’s an intro to The Trees and made to be played with it.

Rush has always recorded their music in studio so it could be played live with little or no sound difference. so if you hear the live version and compare it to the studio version, the difference will only be ambience. they are one of the few bands capable of doing that well. what you hear is what you get

Have you heard resist yet? The album version is acoustic and electric, but the live version is all acoustic and both versions are gorgeous!!!

I hope you will ignore any insults from thatsnice99; he's simply your basic garden variety troll, who's been constantly insulting us and our intelligence for at least as long as I've been on KZbin, and he apparently didn't think we'd recognize him recycling the same tired old insults under a different username after one fed-up channel owner blocked him. I have been recommending The Trees for quite some time now, and Broons Bane makes for a beautiful intro, which I'll be sure to recommend along with it in the future. Take care of yourself, and remember: don't feed the trolls.

Mysterious?!?...It's very easy to hear the chords. It's a very pretty piece and it has been part of my repertoire since it came out. I learned it by ear to teach to one of my students back in the day

I think what he meant is that the general feel of the song was one of mystery...

In parts of Scotland the name Brown is pronounced Broon. I know they are Canadian but they do take of the Scots in a few of their comedy routines for the shows (which are very funny) and I am Scottish. Maybe Terry was Scots, I don't know. Also Bane is a strong word for something or someone that is persistently annoying. Terry Brown, Rush's record producer for that period did not want this intro for The Trees included on the studio album and I think Alex must have kept at him to include it but to no avail. Alex is always playing the fool so eventually he started calling it Broon's Bane. I strongly recommend you listen to Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage (which is on A Farewell to Kings album) then Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres (which is on the Hemispheres album) This work takes you on a journey of Science fiction mixed with Greek Mythology and for me is Rush at their very best. There are many musical intricacies and the lyrics are some of Neil's finest. Please let us know what you think.

Wow … you are the first person to react to this song EVER. Proves Rush fans know nothing about what makes rush great.
