What a superb song. Rush are clicking on all cylinders here. Geddy's voice is pitch perfect and as always the instrumentals and production are simply nonpareil! No band has before or ever will match this threesome for musical perfection.

The Intro Bass riff in 6/8 is just a killer hookie line!Lifeson's amazing as always, big taste in sounding between crispy Cleans, Crunch and Lead for soloing. And of course, the Professor performing his classy dynamic drumming, never forsaking his poetry on lyrics. This Song is simply beautiful, impossibile to disengage!🤟

I've been a Rush fan since the early 80's, and Turn The Page has always been one of my favorites Rush tunes. In my opinion, it is definitely a hidden gem in Rush's catalog that's been overlooked more than it should have been. As an amateur bass player myself, I am amazed at Geddy's ability to perform the vocals and bass line simultaneously, considering how complex & diverse the two rhythm patterns are. I'm glad you reviewed this one. On an interesting sidenote, I remember hearing the opening bass line being used as a newscast opener in the late 80's or early 90's. It was a local station, but I don't remember which one. But I clearly remember hearing it and telling my family "hey, that's Turn The Page by Rush!".

Where you "turned the faucet off" is where I turned it on. The Signals album is what got my attention. Subdivisions spoke to me, and being in high school at the time I could really relate to it. Been a Rush fan ever since. Enjoying your journey of '80's Rush tunes.

RUSH is always quality no matter what Era. Neil has written so many great lyrics over the years but I have to say the line "we can't soothe pain with sympathy" is one of my favorites. It is so true!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

As an 18yr old bass player when this came out in 1987 listening to this for the first time blew my mind. I was wondering how Geddy was going to sing and play bass to this song live and when I saw them play this in concert in Toronto Canada there home town I couldn’t believe it. Too much!!!

Wow, you nailed it. Kudos. It's got kind of a Zen Buddhist message in that way. Yeah, for the last year now, I've been disengaging and worrying about myself only. What's happening with the scamdemic is mass psychosis and is just a stage that our society apparently has to pass through. I'm not involved, though. I'm a detached observer.

And Alex’s solo is IN. SANE. He’s full super siayan on this one. Also that chorused sound in the verses they also used on much of Hold Your Fire. They called it ”Lerxst tone”

Been to like 15-20 of their concerts since the mid-80s. Yes, they play live every bit as good as their studio, with the exception of Geddy's voice which declined in the 2000s due to age.

Tony... You hit the nail on the head when you say you wanna listen to Jacob’s Ladder. By far one of my favorites from Permanent Waves... Entre Nous is another awesome song from Permanent Waves. The beauty about Rush is that both the lyrics AND the music tell a story, independent of each other (Jacob’s Ladder). And yes, Neil never liked repeating a drum beat throughout a song. Go back and listen, and you’ll find that the beat changes subtly throughout a song. Love the reactions 😊
@Particulator4 жыл бұрын
Alex is getting that guitar tone splitting the signal into multiple amps that are then mixed together. The amps he's using are custom made for him so good luck creating that tone at home on one single amp. You can get a good approximation, but nail it? nah, unless you can afford multiple $80k amps😢 He's not only a good guitarist but also quite crafty when comes the time to create unique tones.
