Rush's 45 years of music. Such a beautiful song to go out with. I cried when I saw them do this Live on the last tour in 2015. Alex playing the keys very special to see, since Alex fought with Geddy about the Geddy playing the keys. Last song on their last album. 💜🌺🌼🌹 Geddy's Birthday July 29th, 1953, Alex's Birthday August 27th, 1953, Neil Ellwood Peart Birthday September 12th, 1952-January 7th, 2020. RIP. Other deep songs. Everyday Glory on the Counterparts album.

The last song they recorded. Now, I don't know if they knew that when it happened, but they knew they were coming near to the end, and Alex's guitar solo shows it. It conveys a deep gratitude for the times they had together, a great melancholy that those times were coming to an end, and a sliver of hope to see more of those moments in the future.

It was their last song in the sense that it appeared last on the last album, but it wasn't intended as a swan song when written. It was written in 2012, three years before Neil retired and four before he received that terrible cancer diagnosis. In the wake of Peart's death, the song took on much meaning for his millions of shell-shocked fans (as he had kept his illness secret from all but a small circle of friends, including his family, bandmates, and the band's [one and only] manager).

If humans could live according to the sentiments in this song, what a glorious planet we could have. I can think of no other band - with the possible exception of the Beatles who could leave us in their prime and on such a musical high They set the standard of sticking to their values and left when it was the right time - not just time. I saw these guys 49 times from 1982 to 2015 never missing a tour in those times. And you know something? I really miss these guys.

"The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, So hard to earn, so easily burned..." Like all introverted types, Neil preferred to focus his energy on nurturing deep, meaningful relationships with his bandmates, family, and close friends, which I regard as one major driving force behind Rush's longevity, and there will be another one like him. Rest in peace Professor. 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐

Neil was such a brilliant writer, you have many more thought provoking songs to go through 😁 He was ready at this point to stop gathering and start tending to everything accumulated over a lifetime. As an admirer of his work and work ethic I always wished for more but he gave us everything he had for as long as he could.

Best reaction I've seen to this song. Good stuff. Look up Neil Peart's history.Sadly he died a few years ago Aside from being one of the GOATS of drumming, he was the main lyricist in the band. A.

Neil, who wrote 95% of RUSH's lyrics after the first album, was a great poet, who put a lot of emotion into his writting! He has also written at least a couple of books!
@BarryOrtaleza3 ай бұрын
You feel the essence of the song already… but give yourself a few decades. Those words gain an awful lot of power with time and life lived. It’s one of the things about Neil’s poetry… I was about your age when I went down the rabbit hole, and I cannot count the number of times in decades that followed that I’ve been bitchslapped by various songs with moments of “THAT’S WHAT HE MEANT!!!” Rush is a lifelong band… and Neil’s drumming was not his greatest contribution to the band.

You have to earn people’s trust, and they have earn yours in order to gain respect for one another. Once that mutual trust and respect has been established, love can then flourish. But as Neil writes, “it’s easily burned”. People screw up sometimes; we’re all human. But sometimes we pay a hefty price for our mistakes… and the trust is gone. The respect is gone. The love is gone.

I didn’t know he wrote it that far back. Everything I read was this was written during the CA writing. Or do you just mean that Neil suffered through those losses which contributed to the lyrics here? That I can understand based on his books I’ve read. Either way, while no one really knew this was going to be there final song on their final album, it’s both a beautiful and sad way to end their career.

When you love someone or your child it has profound effect on you and life. Its a eye opener especially a child that never had a chance to grow old and have children themselves. It also effects you deeply even to your parents pass. My mother before she passed told me be good to others and even the bad people if they don't learn well God's wrath will be your end!! When my father passed and if you're the oldest you are now head of family. So sitback and enjoy RUSH AND RELAX AND LISTEN!!!
