This is a step-by-step "Play Along" guide on Dyson Sphere Program, 2023 Proof. Blueprints included!
This episode: Yellow Science!
This run will be focused on
- Explaining all the details
- No Spaghetti
- Easy to use layouts and blueprints
Blueprints supplied! (Tech appropriate, based on latest update)
This playstyle is extremely organized and will very effectively scale towards endgame, and in my humble opinion, very optimized.
It is definitely not the only way to play, so I encourage you to try things out for yourself as well!
Don't forget to like the video if you find it useful, and subscribe to see the rest :)
Dyson Sphere Program is currently in Early Access and updated on a regular basis. Despite being in early access, it is extremely polished and complete, so I highly recommend you checking out the game if you are a fan of Factorio, Satisfactory or other building/management/factory games.
I am not sponsored in any way - Just a big fan of the game.

I've played DSP a lot and watching your other series, but I'm learning a lot. Thanks. I admit even in the early game I tend to go too ham and build way to big too early and my mall is always a spaghetti disaster. I like the use of the Logistic Bots nice a clean. I'll try and give that a go on my next playthrough.

I’ve never noticed the bias indicator in space before, could be useful. The modular system with mini drones is an interesting way of doing things, at least to get production started on some key resources, but it seems a power intensive way of doing it and just connecting with belts would allow greater throughput as well as reduced power use.

Truly excellent master class, thanks! I really like the small scale approach for the early game which needs _so_ many materials to progress. Very practical. I've tried larger factories at this stage, but you're right -- it can take longer to get through the basic science with big factories.

Wew in your pocket. Just stand waiting around for hours? I made a mess of belts to automate it all and used that until end. Never had to automate it again since could go back to pick more even after 20 hours. This bots way does look nicer still. Should have automated these bots too though.

Do red and yellow science at the same time. Plan it all out with the calculators. You need 8 refineries running the default recipe. If you aim for 1 red/yellow science per second you will end up using exactly the same amount of light oil you produced. You will have to stockpile some until you reach sustainable yellow science. 8 refineries. 2 sets of 6 chem labs for plastic and organic crystals. A few titanium smelters, like 4 maybe. I cant remember. The first titanium you smelt should be for hydrogen fuel rods so you can go get more titanium. Then.. if you proliferate, tier 1, the organic crystals and titanium you will only need 5 assemblers spitting out the d20 crystal things. you need like 2 smelters to get the d8 diamonds. So what is left over after that? The only waste is hydrogen. And it's not much. You can use that for useful things. Here. Remember you can proliferate the titanium crystal ingredients to drop that down to five assemblers instead of 6. I takes time to sort out and set up, but in the end it's almost like a skip. You may need to manually ferry titanium in for a bit, but it'll work out if you are paying attention as you unlock the stuff for yellow tech: factoriolab.github.io/list?z=eJwrSNYyM4j3BxJqSR5qRWVaTmrFWlpmdU5-dU6hdU4RdU7ZdU45dc5udc7udc5Bdc4hdQF14XWRdSl12XWldZVqZeYAyJEW2g__&v=7

You can save power by connecting your assemblers directly to storage boxes, no need to put items first on belt then into the storage box. My other advice is to to build storage boxes on top of belt splitters, they work together, anything that goes into the splitter and doesn't leave will enter the box at the speed of belt and without energy consumption, same way it can be shipped out of boxes.

How do you make the belts go over other belts automatically? raising and lowering the belts has been a pain for me kkkk
@TheDutchActuary

They added the automatic ' hops ' in a while back in an update. It used to be a pain for sure, but no longer! For some reason it doesn't work if you start a belt right next to where the ' bridge ' needs to be, but otherwise it is a great feature now!

You blew my mind with the splitter+storage+bots setup, so useful, but where did you find it? Hopefully not too obvious, would be embarrassing for me. I scarcely use the bots for my minimal ress run because of the processors needing much silicon, so lots of spaghetti, instead I rather invest the processors directly in pls and ils, but the power struggle is real 😅

The moment when we switch from some basic stuff into more advanced "everything" is typically a moment when game becomes bit... problematic. I did have this feeling in Factorio, and I must admit that I didnt make it. I think I've managed to produce four types of science... dont remember the name, if there was any... and I dropped from the game. I think I was quite efficient, with rather smart usage of belts ect, but I just felt that game is becoming a chore rather than fun. Dyson Sphere is bit easier, or maybe just better organised? I dont know, but while it is overwhelming (especially with those space flights!), I got the feeling that it offers just better and more accessible functions for players early on... Those local logistic bots are actually available very early, and they change a lot. ILS is bit different, more complex... but this is where your tutorial kicks in. I must say that everything worked very well. I didnt do copy and paste stuff, but very inspiration from watching what you did, how you did, and what... you didnt do, was priceless. So, really great job! So, another chapter now ;-)

I like these little general-use layouts. Perfect for making small amounts of stuff with little work, and very adaptable. Last time I played I was just getting used to the logistics bots so my setup was a huge mess of spaghetti *and* flying bots. I promised to do better next time, but that will probably have to wait for the combat update. And BTW, I leared something new from your video even though I am an experienced player - I did not know you could use a splitter to fill a box the way you did.

I'm amazed you didn't use the left most column in the inventory when flying to and from the planets, it allows to store even more stuff during these flights, its a separate capacity to the rest of the inventory... Also, 780 hours in and I didn't know you could make silicon ore from stone! How long has that been a thing! lol :facepalm:
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary Жыл бұрын
If you want to bring the maximum amount of stuff during a flight, ctrl+click the stuff in a box but don't put it anywhere. Just fly to the next planet, and THEN put it in a box there. You can bring an entire ILS full of stuff - on top - of your inventory that way. Just don't misclick while flying back. It gets... messy.

I found a way to "memo" the small storage boxes: put a single dot of conveyor belt, raised up high enough to be above the storage and the distribution "hat", and then mark the belt with a memo icon. I love the new modular, "quick factory"; I plan to use it a lot in my next playthrough. One more discovery: using a mixed ore garbage can with filtering claws and smelters, you can, over time turn the garbage ores into ingots by having a claw pull a specific ore into the smelter, and put the resulting ingot back into the box that the ore came from. It is possible to have 4 smelters working a single ore trash can. Thank you again for all of the inovation.

I somehow missed this comment earlier, but that's actually an interesting idea to recycle ore that way with a 4-way trash can/storage!

@TheDutchActuary

Wind initially, then as soon as it becomes available solar power. I try to avoid coal and other ' burning ' materials as those set your factory up for a negative power cascade. Less power > Less Coal > Less Power > etc... everything falls apart and it's extremely annoying to reboot. (been there, done that....)

I love the use of the logistic bots (LBs). You definitely answered my questions on how and where they fit in. Now I have some ideas for using them in the mid-late game as well. But now I have a new question lol. Just where in the world do the PLS fit in now? Once you get to ILS they already kinda take the PLS spot, but you could still use them for smaller builds. But now you have the LBs for smaller builds.
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary Жыл бұрын
Logistic bots have their limits. They are slow and don't carry much. So if it is a high-quantity line you want to establish, PLS serve the same function so serve as an alternative. However, in general PLS aren't used all that much because in most cases you might as well use an ILS instead and have more slots/interstellar options.
@Killa_Kamz
@Killa_Kamz Жыл бұрын
@The Dutch Actuary Yeah, that's what I was thinking. ILS takes the PLS spots in almost everything unless it's a really small local build but at that point I think LBs would be better. However, like you said, they're slower and carry less so maybe I'm over thinking they're viability. Maybe LBs are better in the late game to use for just transporting things too and from Icurus 🤔
