Rush was my very first concert, back in the late '70s. I had no idea what I had walked into, but I loved it. Tom Sawyer is and will always be my favorite Rush song. Ohhh the memories! I am so sorry for all of the young people that will never get to experience Rush live. There are few bands that could elicit the same feelings as Rush when you were only feet away from them.

The beauty of Rush is they never really gave a shit about image. They cared about being great at playing whether people liked it or not. And all these years later, people who laughed at them or never listened to them or dismissed them can clearly see their talent and musicianship was at the top of musical food chain. Interesting lyrics, underrated guitars, busy and creative rhythm section, independent soloing all meeting up to a place everyone can feel made them the most unique hard rock band in the world. Cool video and great to see as a 52 year old Torontonian people from all walks of life digging Rush.

I’ve said the same thing for years! Rush was never a a glory band; they played the music they loved, and the sound they created spoke to people - they played for those people and not any critics. Everyone talks about Dave Grohl and John Bonham, but too many people don’t know about Neil Peart, RIP... typical Canadian boys who just wanted to do what they do, and shun the spotlights and accolades. So glad they got inducted into the RRHOF!

@Jason Lusk what do you mean “early”? He continued to be inspired by Ayn Rand, among others. Sorry you don’t like that. Ayn Rand’s view point definite doesn’t sync with the propensity for the adopted socialist mindset so commonly espoused these days. Have you actually ever read her books?

@Jason Lusk ??????? you dont like the idea of a free market?
@jerbcarter
@jerbcarter 2 жыл бұрын
@Jason Lusk government oversight is exactly what’s wrong with capitalism though. Government cronies and lobbyists have ruined capitalism, and it is now used primarily to transfer wealth from the lower and middle classes to the uber wealthy. When left alone in its pure form, capitalism is the only system which prompts innovation and incentivizes those that produce to keep producing, while avoiding total societal collapse. Yes, it’s not perfect, but every other form of societal structure is far to idealistic to ever work properly for a free people. Neil was a bleeding heart Libertarian, so obviously subscribed to many of Ayn Rand’s philosophies. You don’t have to agree with them, but that doesn’t automatically make them wrong.

I’m a life long Rush fan, I’m 64 years old, have seen them in concert at least a dozen times and I’m thoroughly enjoying new people discovering the music of my youth. Begs the question of where have they been and what have they been listening to to have missed out on Rush?
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
Mate, with respect, you're 64 years old. There's been a lot of other stuff, some of it incredible, between then and now. Can't exactly be surprised that some great stuff got buried. I mean, I'm sure there are masterpieces of the Renaissance you're unaware of. Where are you been and what have you been looking at to have missed out on them? It's a bit arrogant to set what you know as "what should be known", y'know? If you want people to know about this great stuff (and why wouldn't you?), try telling them of it. Pop culture is largely youth culture, and youth culture changes thoroughly and quickly. Get used to it, 'cause it ain't stopping; if anything, it's accelerating. Also, may want to reflect on the fact that I'm sure your parents, with roughly-equal validity, said the same thing you just did about you and your ignorance of some of the pearls of their generation.

I remember hearing this song for the first time. I was a freshman in HS and it had just come out. I was a Boston, Heart, Foreigner, The Cars, The Knack fan. My friend said "Listen to this song", and it was Tom Sawyer. I liked it, but was unsure. I was dead set on "my music" being the best, so it was like letting an outsider in. But for some reason, I dropped my bias and played it again and right then decided I was a Rush fan. I couldn't deny it. Bought the album, and now I have it as top 15 or 18 albums of all-time.

I’m so glad I got to see them as a teenager a year after 2112 was released. I saw them at an old RKO Theater that seated about 2 thousand. General Admission. Waited about two hours in line to get good seats and did. You could cut the smoke with a knife. Never sat down the entire time they played!

You put this together very well. I watch most of these reactors already, and it's great to see them in this format. It's really encouraging to see some younger people reacting to songs of my youth; there was so much talent and diversity of music back then, that we just took it for granted that it'd always be that way. Music today is homogenized and bland. Great video!

Linked to this from the corporate YT. A lifetime Rush fan ... favorite band ... loved learning their guitar parts, as a kid. Could never find a drummer like that ... one of a kind. All three immensely talented players ... the drummer Neil Peart played a lot with time signatures that most don't notice changing, and he did most of the lyrics too ... Alex Lifeson was an amazing guitar player with the abstract leads and slow meditative parts ... and the singer and keyboard / Taurus pedals / bass player Geddy Lee ... amazing. They sounded like that in concert too. They were truly a band for music nerds and engineers, who made music that most everyone liked, with lyrics that made interesting points. I think that recording is at Le Studio in Quebec, Canada (where April Wine recorded, among others). Thanks!

Here is her latest TicToc video that was made into a video by a fan, kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJS9i3Whepacfqs Or check out her latest cover of Adele's "Easy On Me" released by Republic Records just 12 days after Adele released her original, kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6HaZoRta82Kjac Or her latest original called "7th Heaven", kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6OvmoqsrN-VeaM She started gathering attention 9 years ago when she won Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old.
