Rush ~ Working Man ~ Final Song at their last show on the R40 Tour ~ LA Forum ~ 8/1/2015

I captured this wonderful performance of Rush playing their final song, Working Man, at their final show of the R40 Tour at the Los Angeles Forum on August 1, 2015. Momentous occasion highlighted by the amazing Neil Peart coming out from behind the drums to share a bow with Geddy and Alex. For a longtime fan of Rush, it was as tearjerking a moment for me as it clearly was for Alex. Sadly the last time Rush ever graced the stage together.
My first ever Rush concert was at the LA Forum in 1981 and I have been a diehard fan ever since. The greatest live trio to have ever graced the stage as well as being amazing human beings. Feel so blessed to have been there this night and grateful for all of the wonderful years of their music.
I had uploaded this video that night after the performance only to have it removed for copyright infringement and my old channel removed, 2112rushfanatic, for the copyright strike. This video had over 55,000 views and many wonderful comments from fans from around the world, so very sad to see that original upload gone forever. Other videos from that night were never taken down, so it is hard to understand why just one was removed by the copyright owner, except that this was the best quality and the most viewed. I don't wish it to receive another copyright strike, so PLEASE if someone has rights to this music, please make a comment and I'll remove it myself. Hoping this excellent recording can remain for all who love RUSH to enjoy. Thank you!

You just witnessed the one and ONLY time Neil ever came out front to take a bow with Alex and Geddy at the end of a Rush performance. He had never done that before. If there was anyone that grasped and embraced carpe diem, it was Neil. He lived life to the fullest... through the good... and the bad. R.I.P. brother.

Yep, I was at the show and it was heartbreaking because in that instant, when he took his personal photos, I knew he had discussed it with Alex and Geddy to pose in front of the audience, then when he came forward for the bow, well, I knew that was it for a big tour. Fan from1974-2020. All time favorite band. Class man, immense talent... all 3 of them.

This is really a first (and last) for the band, as this was never something Neil ever felt he had to, truthfully, needed to do. And as fans, we never cared he wouldn't take a bow over the years, we were just grateful to be in his presence. As Neil famously noted somewhere, " I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend".

They started with their elaborate Clockwork Angels set and then as they played backwards through their catalog, their crew would come out and disassemble the set and replace it with a set from the era into which they moved next. At the end, they disassembled all the way down to an amp sitting on a high school chair in a gym. Brilliant.

Neil pulled the plug because he said that he could no longer perform up to his expected high standards. He rode his motorcycle to each of their shows After he lost his wife and daughter he rode thousands of miles from Quebec to Alaska South to Belize with so many side trips in the American SW The story is recorded in his book "Ghost Rider" That's what killed him So many EMF's coming off the spinning wheels and sitting over the motor

@@neli250 - Always liked Neil and his craftsman approach to playing drums; and I liked his lyrics, too. I was dismayed to read the album cover where he praised Ayn Rand, and breathed a sigh of relief when he backed away from that position. The band's secret, I think, was the high standards and craftsmanship. I think that Geddy and Alex have said that they will play again, but we'll just have to wait and see if that's gonna happen. Fortune passes everywhere.

Talk about ending on a high note: Geddy's voice was stronger than it had been in years, Alex's was shredding as usual, and Neil was fired up on this tour...I only wish I had known it would be their last (it was just rumors in 2015, there was always hope that Neil would reconsider :-/). My brother took me to see Rush on April 29, 1976. My sister-in-law took me to Peaches Records and Tape to meet Alex and Geddy. It was the 2112 tour and I was 10 years old. Tears in my eyes while writing this comment. Neil is gone but Rush will live forever.

Why do my eyes involuntarily leak every time I watch this? I mean, I first saw them live in 1974 with John Rutsey on drums, and have seen them live every time they've played hometown Toronto (including Sarstock). They were a totally unique, incredibly skilled trio of hosers who stayed humble and gracious their entire career. Just watching this is very emotional knowing this is it.. no more Rush. Bowing out with a song from their first album, and playing it with as much passion and fire as they played it 40 years ago. Thanks for the music guys. You were, and will always be a huge part of the soundtrack of my life.

Amps and bottoms sitting on chairs kinda reminds you of the beginning alright especially with Working Man being the song. Loved this band. Hell I burrowed my sisters car to go see them once at the Aragon in Chicago and when we came out the car had been stolen and used in the robbery of an electronics store, and then crashed in a police chase down. It took three months to get the car back. Just another typical Rush concert night! I couldn't have ever come up with a story this good if it hadn't happened to me!

Thats the one thing that salves the pain of losing Neil....they did it their way and they were done....exactly the way THEY wanted to be. This should be the blue print for bands on how to finish a touring career. They will be loved from now on until forever.

I am glad you got this sacred front row experience at what turned out to be Rush’s last show ever! It’s fascinating for me to see this moment as IDENTICAL to what was captured in the documentary Time Stand Still! Sad to think that was Neil Peart’s final exit before his unforeseen passing! 🙁 That puts the final nail on the coffin to solidify the fact that Rush are absolutely extinct now. Bitter sweet. Strange watching this. They were my favorite band at 9 years old in 1976 and still are. I just never ever thought about them not being around. 43 years to prepare for it and it still caught me off guard. They went out on top and at the right time. They did everything they possibly could do and they completely emptied their bucket. They explored everything in them to the max. They put out an amazing last album. They never stood still, the constantly evolved right up to the end. At least once a decade they came out with a different sound. Start with the 1st album and play it all through in order and you’ll see what I mean. In 1976 I could have never in a million years imagined their music would would have evolved so drastically. Hardly any band has ever evolved the way they did. Except for the Beatles all other bands who you could say changed, just changed to poor quality uninspired music.

Was there too that night. We did 8 shows on R40 including Tulsa opener, Lincoln, Philly, Newark, MSG, Columbus, KC and LA. We went to SARS and to the HOF induction. Been going with a pal since 82 to their shows. Great times and fans and memories. RIP Neil thank you.

I was at Pearson airport dropping off my wife as she was on her way to scotland, a guy asked me how to get to the SARS concert? He was from Florida and was there to see Rush! He didnt care about the Stones or AC/DC, just there for the band from YYZ.

@@prickyX I believe that. Thats why we drove from Illinois. Nothing against the Stones or ACDC. The crowd all day was huge and orderly. A great time. The long walk back to the car afterwards killed the legs. Well worth it. My pal and I have been going to RUSH shows since 82. He started in 78. Lots of memories indeed. Always great people up in Canada too each time we were up there.

i may have commented before on this video, and i know i have on others, but i want to remark again ... what a class act ! i can't think of a rock band, or any other organization that has brought joy and love to so many people and done it together, because it was the goal and aspiration of each and every member of the band and organization. the love and respect that the band member of Rush, and i'm sure of their entire organization, had for each other is beyond any doubt the source of their continued popularity for 40 + years. my admiration goes beyond my love of their music; it is a total 360 degree love of their humanity.

One of the best stories about Rush I ever heard: Back in the '70s, when Rush was still an up-and-coming band starting to get serious attention, they opened for a lot of big-name acts who were doing shows on the Canadian leg of whatever tour they were on. Eventually there was a lot of word-of-mouth going around about these three local guys who were a frequent opening act who were so awesome that they were more or less proactively blowing the headliners off the stage before they stepped foot on it. So much so that a lot of bands started throwing their weight around and doing all kinds of petty shit-- i.e. turning down the volume on the speakers, denying them the chance to do a proper soundchecks-- to keep Rush from upstaging them. Apparently, one of the worst offenders was Aerosmith. Flash forward several years: Rush got huge, and were now headlining; Aerosmith hit the skids, and Joe Perry was touring with the Joe Perry Project. One night, when the JPP was opening for Rush, Geddy explicitly told his crew to treat Perry generously, and extend his people any and every courtesy.(including letting him soundcheck as much as he wanted). Later, Geddy dropped by Perry’s dressing room to ask if he was being treated well. Perry said yes, and Geddy replied “Good. Because I would never want anyone to feel the way we did when we opened for you.” **BOOOOO-YAAAAHHHH!!!** Geddy later said that Perry gave him an abject, heartfelt apology after that

Back in the mid seventies, I went to an ELO concert at the Ottawa Civic Center. Little Feet was the scheduled opening act, but they cancelled out because Lowell George had just recently died. The replacement opening act was a band we had never heard of...Rush. At least I think that's what happened, hard to tell, the seventies are all rather a blur... I only saw Aerosmith once, both they and their opening act, Prism, were so stoned/smashed, they both were booed off the stage. Of course I was no better, see above.

I was there the first time they headlined Massey Hall in 75 & 2 of the 3 nights in 76 at the same venue when they recorded “All the worlds a stage”. I’m even (barely) in one of the photos included in ATWAS..3 of the best concerts I’ve attended in my 60 years & I’ve seen a lot. They most definitely should’ve played their last show in Toronto. RIP Neil

Eh, I think it's fitting that the last show was in Los Angeles-- considered the capital of show business. 3 weird kids from Canada conquered it doing it their way and overcoming tremendous adversity.

Discovered Rush at age 13 when Tom Sawyer hit. Told myself I have got to see these guys in concert. Parents said no, years went by, albums came and went, got deployed overseas, got married, got divorced, lost jobs, no time, there was always a reason. Finally 32 years after hearing Tom Sawyer, Rush came to Summerfest in Milwaukee. I was working in Omaha and thought, "fuck it, I'm going." Got 2 tickets for me and my best friend. Greatest concert I ever saw. Haven't been to a concert since. So glad I didn't pass up the chance and so sorry to anyone that never seen them live. Rest In Peace, Neil.

I'm 53 finally went to see them in 2012. So glad I did. It was on my bucket list before I knew I had one. I've never shed a tear for someone I never met until Neil died. I think now I have some idea of how my mom felt when Elvis died

I know this had to have been a tough tour for Peart, a man that demanded perfection of himself. Being the best at what you do and to have that slowly slipping away must be tough. Oddly enough they did a song called Losing It that almost captures what was going on. There are other masters like Robert Fripp that says he doesn't know how much longer he'll be able to keep up the perfection of demanding songs like Fractured. It's artist like these that make the world almost worth living in.

this one gives me a large goosebump. a true moment of history,history at large,even if some would call it history of music.i'd say it's more than just music. the professor now gone after an illness kept secret,like Neil habit of keeping things internally,then,RUSH ,this planetary band,who ignited the flame of music for thousands of musicians across the world.....they're now gone ; THIS was their very last song played together,bubba,Geddy and alex. not sure they knew it was goin to be the very last time they would play together,but something tells me Neil knew......i feel sick to my stomach since Neil departure. i had hopes i would see them together again ,now it's over.Neil has still a place near my house up north in the laurentians,i used to park my car couple hundred feets from his place,just to reflect on personal things,never in hope i would see him,it never has been important to me.what was, was being able to feel his presence,his spirit,trough this place i know he loved,it was a secret cabin where he was working,reflecting on his music,a spiritual retreat for him. RIP NEIL, godspeed my mentor,the professor,Bubba Neil Elwood Peart.
