Your intonation and technical skills are very obviously the result of countless hours of working to be a kickass bassist, and you've nailed it, mate. This is an amazing video, and you are a brilliant bassist.

That may be the tightest cover of a Geddy bass line I’ve ever heard… and you did it on a 5 string fretless. 🫡Bravo and well done.

This sounds better with a fretless bass than the original, great job! #SlappedLike

Love it! When I decided to get comfortable with fretless I put everything else away and played fretless ONLY for 1 year. I played everything from Maiden to Metallica, and I discovered that fretless has a sound and feel all it’s own, especially on “non fretless” music. Nowadays, I still play with 4, 5 & 6 string fretted basses, as I’m getting up towards 50 years on bass, but I find myself grabbing the fretless way more often. Bravo to you young man, you know exactly what I’m talking about!🤘🏻

The more I watch these (mostly) young people play/copy these incredible pieces of music from yesteryear, it makes me wonder, what music will we/they be covering in 30 years from now, when there hasn't been any incredible music out for DECADES by that point? We won't have had a wealth of musical influences from which to draw upon? SCARY thought.

there is great music all the time, when it comes to the technical bands like polyphia are very popular with young people today. Watch any of the covers of Clay Gobers bass parts, they are intense.

Cleanest quality cover video I've seen so far, thank you so much for not moving around as well, makes it MUCH easier to read the neck. Thankfully I played standup bass for a year 20yrs ago and I have a good clue of what's going on. My dyslexia makes tabs difficult and I definitely can't read sheet music, and this one's not easy by ear. But it just got easier to pick up on my regular bass, thank you sir 🤘

Really enjoyed that thanks. As a song I've learned up to a point, but never perfected, you've inspired me to go back and do a thorough job. You played everything almost note for note, but you couldn't resist doing that slide up, close to the end😜

Yine aynı bölgelerde aslında harmonikler perdeliden pek bir farkı yok. Bunda harmonikten sonra slide falan da yapabiliyorsun ama bir güzelliği perde olmadığından.

Awesome, I wonder how do fretless basses work? are they any different than one with frets? I'm considering getting one but might not if it's too much of a hassle to play compared to my regular bass

a little adjusting playing “on” where the frets would be totally different vibe and feel that I much prefer
@briank326
@briank326 Жыл бұрын
The frets are the thin metal bars you see on the neck of regular electric guitars and basses. They are placed in the exact places you need to produce a certain note, so it doesn't really matter where you exactly you press your finger, you'll always get exactly the same note. If you don't have frets then you don't have that guide anymore. You put your finger exactly where the fret would be and you get your note in tune, but if you place it slightly forward or behind, you'll sound slightly sharp or flat. So you need to have your ears and your muscle memory really well honed in order to not sound like a complete mess. The upside is that you get that sweet, mellow tone and if you ever feel like playing around with alternative systems like middle eastern scales or 24TET, you don't need to modify your instrument at all, just learn where you need to place your fingers. I have only played around with them a few times and am still considering whether I should defret my own bass. But yes, it's quite tricky to get the notes consistently right. It doesn't sound as egregious as trying to play violin(which is another fretless instrument), but if you're playing to a track or with other people you can definitely feel you're constantly getting out of tune and it gets quite frustrating
