I got the 30L v1 at launch. I have used it a LOT and it still looks (almost) brand new. Crazy durable, comfortable and practical. As I already have one, I could not see enough changes in the v2 to upgrade, but let me give my warmest recommendations for this bag. If possible, do test it in person, to check if the 20 or 30 is right for your body size. Comfort is as important as capacity.

I wish they made a 15L version of this. I would get it in a hearbeat. 20L is still 2 big. I like ultra minimalist setups, big enough for a Sony a7iii with a 24-70 lens attached, and a 13' laptop that is low profile, doesnt look like im wearing a brick, and doesnt scream HEY LOOK AT ME I HAVE A LOOT PINIATA!! to thieves.

Great review of the bag. Unfortunately this bag seems much cheaper than the last version: -Accent stitching is missing in areas. -The leather on the side handles is gone. -No more waist belt included (wtf). -I hate that the side flaps have much less pockets. As a photographer all those little battery pockets were extremely useful and I use them all the time. -Also not a fan that the side flaps don't have a zipper cover over the whole area. When I'm working on the go I don't want to worry about losing a small battery or card because I'm changing a lens. I feel like they didn't fix a single thing that would have improved the usefulness of the bag, just cut corners for profit and did minor aesthetic improvements. Still great review, I hope more of the community speaks up about this. Peak Design has been an amazing company for working professionals, but lately I feel like they're going the direction of making fashion accessories instead of useful chic gear.

I have the large V1 bag because it takes large zoom lenses and a 150mm filter pack in a neat size and I always put my camera in the top compartment for easy access. I am disappointed however to see the new version hasn't addressed any of the problems I found: first and foremost, no quick and easy way to attach a tripod, I tried the elaborate lashing on the back which PD show on their video but it's just way too fiddly and doesn't suit a full size tripod. I think PD have sacrificed useability here for appearance's sake which is supposed to be against their design approach, same can be said of the messenger bag. Second, the bottom zip is unnecessary and is a weak point which lets in water on damp ground and is the first thing to get marked. Third, when you take equipment out what do you do with the lens cap/body cap or hotshoe cover? You chuck it in the top or space it came from, but it ends up falling through the gaps and you have to fish around after to find it. An inherent problem with this bag design, the dual access means that when you change lenses or need access to the side pockets inevitably what you need is on the opposite side to the one you have open, so you have to zip that up first or risk your gear falling out, roll it over and get into the other side, all very time consuming and inconvenient. And finally the shelves don't give much support, if you take something out the upper ones with a large lens or camera body will sag so the equipment lower down is actually taking some of the weight. On the plus side it is robust and despite what someone else has said I find the straps surprisingly good, a hip support would be good although that would add a lot to the bulk; if I find the loaded bag uncomfortable it's because the stuff inside is too heavy and I replace it with lighter options. The changes in V2 are minor tweaks, mainly cosmetic, and it is a shame PD haven't taken on board user experiences.
@secret5.
@secret5. 4 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more, this is the consensus from just about every professional I've talked to. We all hate those bottom zippers and not having a dedicated top compartment. But yes the bag is bulletproof. I've dragged it around on over a hundred shoots this year from weddings to climbing photos. It's been loaded down with ropes, gear attached all over the outside, and full inside, and I still find it comfortable. Even the unpadded waist strap was useful. However the changes to this one are cosmetic and they've taken away some of the most useful and rightly done things from the first version such as the full zipper side flaps.

It makes no sense to leave the top of the backpack open when hooking the latch to maximize the capacity. That’s a design failure to me.
@kuroneko8343
@kuroneko8343 4 жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying but if they had made the fabric reach to cover the sides on the highest latch it would obstruct the top loading a bit too much for everyday use. It makes less sense that you would put something water damageable at the very top of your bag at max capacity. Its almost always going to be a jacket or form of clothing which can handle a bit of water. Since your precious electronics will be in the laptop compartment or deeper in the bag its a small problem if you ask me.

Peak design bags look better than they function. I know they upgraded the zippers but my previous 30 and 20l bags the zippers broke in 6 months. And the material where your back goes wears out and rips and yes they are not that comfortable. I went with a wandrd prvke that's way more comfortable and secure.
@TheDoomWorm
@TheDoomWorm 4 жыл бұрын
every review I saw did not mention a couple of things which made me return the bag the next day, even though I REALLY REALLY wanted to keep it I bought the 20L so the 30L might be better. In my case if I had an umbrella and a water bottle in the side pockets meant that I could not fit anything inside the inner side pockets because they were pushed into the inner dividers, which don't really hold their shape. I have a Canon 100D which is one of the smallest DSLRs + 18-135mm lens. and the ntire thing takes up an entire divider. And if I want to put something else inside like my Osmo Pocket extra batteries, chargers, powerbank, I have to throw them in the main compartment where they roll around, because as mentioned above the side pockets are useless if you have the outer pockets full I really did not want to return it but unfortunately in my case its actually worse than using a regular backpack that has a bit more compartments/pockets

I hate the Everyday Backpack. The shelving system is annoying to use. It’s hard to pack your camera with a lens attached unless you use a small m43 camera (I haven’t fond a way to easily use a 70-200 with a FF system.. If you put a lens in a cubby it tends to roll out unless you open the bag very carefully. Things can easily slip from the top compartment past the top shelf to areas further down.

It's a great backpack for everyday use, but it's definitely not a good camera bag. You can not put naked lenses inside since they move too much, specially small prime ones. This needs some kind of pouch or elastic bands for those origami separators in order to secure delicate gear.

Reviewed this bag from the point of view a professional TV producer. Wasn’t for me at all. Not only does it make a poor camera bag (in a larger production setting - if you’re a wedding photographer it could work) but the lack of outside organization pockets means you have more steps to get to things compared to other bags, so it was a fail for me as an everyday bag. The biggest problem is that the shoulder straps and harness system are poorly designed (a common complaint). When you wear the bag, you’ll notice it keeps on wanting to pull away from your back even if you pull the shoulder straps as tight as you can. This not only throws off the weight distribution but it adds a lot of pressure to already-too-thin shoulder straps which is why so many people complain about the straps cutting in to them. As a backpack - something to carry weight on your back - this is poorly designed. They focused on inside the bag and not on creating something you could carry comfortably - and if a backpack doesn’t function well as a backpack, there’s a design issue. I know the factory where these are made in Vietnam- they cost $18/unit to manufacture . As a comparison, Vanquest bags are made in the same factory and cost $80/unit to manufacture (5 times as much). Do a review on one of those bags and you’ll see a huge quality difference and something that actually carries comfortably

This was the best review of a camera bag I have ever seen! I think I might get it just because of that bottom attachment and the inside. Thank you sir!

Surely those internal pocket metal zips will scratch/damage camera gear? Why would they put METAL right where its going to rub on cameras and lenses?

Love the 20L, Hate the dangling straps. I’d have to put some velcro strips on it to act as strap keepers. Miss ya Ed 🙄

Much better description than Peak Design's video, you actually "show" in the video along your verbal description. Peak Design's description on their new everyday pack doesn't "show" you at all, I couldn't even watch after a couple of minutes.

My only gripe with this bag is that it's just too heavy for me. I'm 5'7" and carrying a bag like this is very tiring for me personally
