I think the song a week strategy really helps artists who are undiscovered and still trying to improve there sound to gain an audience. Practice makes perfect and setting a song a week as the goal holds you accountable to be consistent. And once you have one hit, then you could slow down and start building anticipation in between releases

The third point is so valid. SoundCloud was the unique intersection between streaming and social media, while nowadays you're workin toward virality on social media to hopefully CONVERT to streaming. Imagine if a larger artist / platform could repost your music to their Spotify "feed" like they were able to in the SoundCloud era? Artists themselves could easily grow eachothers careers wit the trust of their audience. (Of course there's pinned songs, artist playlists, etc. but the visibility doesn't compare to peak SoundCloud).

Great vid … to me X was the most diverse artist without sacrificing quality. He made what he felt from an honest place over so many different styles of production, vocal mixing, etc and I think that’s what made him so special and influential. It’s that place we create from when we’re kids and there are no rules , it can get messy but it’s also where the magic is. Yeah I think you said it best. The landscape of entertainment is very different. Everything and everyone is fighting for your attention 10x more than it was in the 2014-2018 era. I'm pulling that number out of my ass ofc. But we now more than ever live in a time of a surplus of content. It's no wonder it's hard to stand out as an artist nowadays. Combine that with society's algorithmic tailored interests and its smaller and smaller attention span. You are going to find it difficult to be discovered on the internet without putting in a lot of work.

What y’all don’t seem to mention as much as you should is that Russ was an industry plant and probably still is, so is Nic D who you mentioned. Labels know that the fans love a story… and the indie artist with no help is the story people just eat up. Harry Mack is a prime example… people think he blew up on his own, but man’s has been part of the industry since 2015. What people see and think is real vs what is real is totally 2 different things. If you want to make it in the music business you need to have a lot of money or fantastic partners who do… there’s no other way you’re making it. Industry has turned pay to play just like it was back in the day with radio… it’s the same thing happening on social media platforms like KZbin rolling out promo tab. What do you think that’s the start of? A wave of new content creators who have money who can just buy their way to having a lot of views and subs. It’s the same in music.

I dropped a song a week on spotify for 2 years and got 12 million streams organically. it works. period. spotify still is about organic reach and they favor consistent content and they will basically promote you for free. The more dense your catalog the more exponential growth potential. All these algorithms are the same. Because viewership is their value. who ever is putting out content that people are engaging with more and more and that person is continuous providing more content drops spotify will push you because its in their best interest, So they end up working for you just by working for themselves. And at the end of the day I'm sure spotify favors organic streams and not the fake shit they have to do with labels. I think it may be more in it for them on that side too but idk for sure.

Now the hype and anticipation is killed though because you really don’t have much time to build hype or anticipation for the release. It does not make you lack variety or burn you out either. I believe when it comes to the variety point (and excuse me, because I'm only at 2:20 so far if it's clarified) is for the random person that he's speaking to, to have the MOST reach, you'd need variety. Not that it's wholeheartedly dependent on that for everyone, but that for the most reach, most chance of someone staying to listen or just attracting an audience of different individuals, putting out music that speaks to a variety increases the chances of momentum. EX: If there's (random number's sake) 40K people I can reach with this type of song, the most I'll reach is 40k every time I upload or push anything out. but if I put out a song that reaches that 40k, then the next song reaches a different audience of 40k, then I now have a total possible audience of 80K. So, not necessarily that you HAVE to do it, but if you want it to work in most cases, attracting different audiences with different sounds overall will increase your reach and inherently you chances of gaining traction given both sounds are quality in whatever way attracts the niche.

One of the biggest hurdles that artists have is that they can't make their music available via download- directly from their social media profiles. It's pretty fuken stupid when you think about it...

No thanks. 1. There's no way the songs will be good if you release them every week. 2. Not every song is a single. 3. Artists should spend months marketing 1 song , not just a week. 4. This doesnt work on every genre. 5. People will apreciate the fact that you took time to write something deep and complex 6. You wont have time to create content for each song (MV, LV. Photos, etc)
