Why now? Because it's extremely difficult to come forward! You get dragged through the mud by people who likely don't care if it's true or not they just want to support the accused (for whatever reason), Sexual assault is very difficult to get proved in a law court, because it frequently comes down to he said/she said. And even if convicted the sentencing is very often just a slap on the wrist. When celebrities are accused they generally can afford much better lawyers, for far longer, than their accuser. If I had been assaulted by someone and chose not to seek legal action, because I had no chance of winning, find out my attacker was being accused by somebody else, I would probably absolutely come forward as well, and the more women(in this case) who come forward and can make statements, provide whatever evidence that was collected at the time (etc) the more comfortable I would be coming forward. If you aren't being a dumbass about it it's extremely logical. I wish victims were taken seriously and treated respectfully no matter who their attacker is. I wish that sexual assault cases weren't the pariahs of an overworked DAs case load, and ignored if not rejected for lack of evidence.

I'm a guy....but I 100% understand why they would want to remain anonymous. One of the women has apparently gone public. But the others....those doing the actual investigations, including the authorities, THEY know who these women are, and that's what matters. But given the way people attack and dox people these days...how on earth can anyone blame them for not wanting to put their name and face on this? There is an absolute certainty that would completely destabilize their lives, if not outright threaten them. If I were them I'd remain anonymous forever....I'd never let the public know who I am. That would be terrifying. The authorities know, and that's all that actually matters right now.

The women in the industry ( Comedy circuit and TV/Radio ) don't want Russell Brand arrested. Or even for him to be unfairly cancelled. It was treated as a joke before... now it might be taken seriously. That's a huge change in awareness. But to say that Russell Brand has been cancelled or stopped from spreading other peoples conspiracy theories ( by stealing their content ) and regurgitating it... is ridiculous. If Russell Brand claimed the sky was blue I would have to go outside and check. He's been on the left on a few issues, but he is overwhelmingly on the right on everything else. He believes in conspiracy theories and admits freely to a drug addled past. So, none of the allegations are surprising. It's the sort of thing drugged out partying celebrities do, no matter their politics. A close friend who worked as a roadie for many years has a lot of stories about rock celebrity bad behaviour with groupies and drug use, the two tend to go together. Ask a celebrity if consent was involved at the time and most would not have had any idea what the word meant. Never take no for an answer was and probably still is part of the culture. Most of the women involved new that, or very quickly found out the hard way. What we have seen in the last few years with people like Brand and Epstein is only a few snowflakes on the top of a very big iceberg.

Given how often rape is charged or convicted then almost no one would ever lose their monetization. It's hard for me to agree with Sam on this, if advertisers don't want to be associated that should also be their prerogative. I have a small detailing business that uses KZbin ads, I don't want my ads running on Russel Brand videos either.

I think a lot of it's in the wording - creators shouldn't be demonetised because an allegation was made because innocent until proven guilty is a key part of a fair legal system. However, the capitalist market is famously separate from the legal system (in every sense) and as such not bound by it - youtube stopping all monetisation of his videos is unfair, advertisiers not wanting to be associated is not. The result may be the same, but the method of execution requires a key distinction. I don't know if youtube made an executive decision to remove all advertising from his channel or if every advertiser on youtube contacted them and said "I don't want my adverts played on his videos" (though I strongly suspect I can guess which it was), but the latter is the free market, in all it's fairness, in action and the former is a decision by a single person/board on whether a person is guilty or not.
