It’s crazy how the media will try to flip it around and say “aren’t you harming the economy?” as CEOs rake in billions. They should feel embarrassed to even ask that question.

Well a journalist has to ask those questions cause it gives the guy a chance to explain why that isn't the case. When it's an anchor or pundit saying it without anyone to counter it it's a problem.
@michaelbeaster2921

Idk I think the question does have to be asked though. The stock market has tanked since the strikes started and the 99% of America that isn't involved in auto manufacturing (and also haven't seen proper wage increases in years) suffers as a result. Are the CEOs greedy? Of course...I doubt anyone is lining up to throw a CEO celebration party. But the demands of the UAW are also a little excessive. Calling 25-30 dollars an hour plus better than average benefits slave labor is kind of tone deaf to the rest of the blue collar country.
@sierrarmcclain
@sierrarmcclain Жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying. It’s pretty shitty to ask the workers, because it looks like they’re blaming the workers. But if they asked the CEOs, the CEOs would control the narrative and blame it on the workers. By asking the workers, they could tell what is actually happening.

These companies could give every single worker another $35k per year, and only reduce profits by 15%. _Based on the $33B in "Big 3" profits already this year._ The greed in this country is grotesque. What's more disturbing is the worship of it on a level akin to any of the world's major religions. Greed is preached in schools, homes and CHURCHES. Greed is applauded, it's honored and rewarded. It's the paramount virtue in American society.

A CEO's brain would literally kill itself if it started making decisions about how big of a bonus or how much of a pay increase should be given to workers if they came anywhere close to infringing on the stratosphere of CEO pay. The automakers, as well as other corporate businesses, have had years to share some of the wealth created mostly on the backs of workers, but they have been unwilling to share increasing profits with the workers. If they aren't squeezed, they don't share the juice. That's just the way it is. Unions standing firm to squeeze are the only hope for some color of fairness. The low hanging fruit is the big question as to why these companies don't share the wealth in the same way, a way they claim costs the companies nothing, by giving employees stock options. Then the wealth will be shared, and the costs of business cycles will be shared without forcing the workers to take cuts as they did during the great recession. It should at least be put on the table, methinks. Automakers probably don't do it because they don't want the workers to have the same source of a cushion in the event of a crisis. And with depraved Don, he expects the same from his workers as he expects from his political yes men, complete fealty. Workers should be working for him for free, and doing so just to make Trump happy. In fact, they should be paying him for the privilege. Despicable.

What is the point of the phrase: It takes money to make money now then? Because if the corporates make money to grow aren’t we supposed to grow as well to get *OUR FAIR SHARE* of the money too in order to support ourselves and our families?

I do t understand why so many people are against unions. I work in the oilfield and wish I had a union. My company is renowned for being the lowest paying company for equivalent employment across alike oilfield jobs. Also very very difficult to be a liberal in the oilfield

They made consessions in good faith to help out when the company was apparently hurting, giving what they gave up would also be good faith. I always have issues with consessions, as you are then fighting down the road for things you already had. No gains there to be had.

Unlike unchecked corporate power, unchecked union power like in Finland usually leads to quite good results. Unions tend to be a lot more connected to society so they are far less likely to try to benefit themselves at the expense of everyone else like out-of-touch billionares do. The 2008 sacrifices of the UAW should prove that.

Companies rarely if at all reform their business practices and pay of their own volition, strikes being one of the lesser destructive things workers can do when executives ignore the tiers/tears underneath them, as those executives pay no attention to other things like good faith negotiations and calls for better profit distribution. Be happy yet concerned full automation hasn't occurred yet, because the executives would gladly replace/enslave robotic and software workers to maximize profits to themselves and eliminate pesky speak for themselves humans, across multiple industries . . .effectively widdling down the consumer base . . but hey, early profits . . until someone makes A.I. executives and replaces them. Maybe those executives can unionize . . oh wait.

Doesn't matter who's fault it is, UAW or CEO's, the auto industry is ripping off consumers. The price of new cars and especially pickup trucks is disgusting. The auto industry is drive the poor and lower middle class into 7-8 year loans because of the profits.

The biggest criminals in this country are these rich people who pocket all the profits. But where do they come from, that is the small hard working employee who does everything to earn a little more. Only these criminals bag themselves everything and the employees come nothing. Let the times for several days no production run, then they will see what costs them every day the production downtime. Only their profit is on their account, the CEO's do not care, they just hold the next time again the hand on so greedy as they are.

What is so idiotic to me about what Trump said Is that he is saying that he did not give himself a raise during those same years, or that he had not raised prices on his business products, services, or properties during the same years. Or that he probably got a higher percentage. And while giving bonuses are nice, employees' retirements are based on the last year's salary, so if he gave $2000 bonuses every year for 10 years, instead of the salary, the person's retirement is calculated on a salary that could have been $20K more. So who got the short end of the stick?
