Comedian Russell Brand is out with a new book, “Recovery: Freedom from Our Addictions.” On Megyn Kelly TODAY, he admits, “I was a terrible drug addict” and advises an audience member in early recovery to reach out to other people like herself. I met Russell once in a coffee shop in London. He was in front of me in the queue, and he let my friend and me go ahead of him. He was really lovely and kind and asked us what we were doing. I told him it was my birthday and we were having a shopping day in London. He wished me happy birthday and paid for our coffees. What an awesome guy.

gigglyfitzgirl Yes, and if they think they can get by with complimenting him, he will delightfully expose them, in person, for the stuttering, stammering piles of hairspray, makeup and over priced clothes that they really are. True authenticity will expose true frauds everytime.

People are silly to think Megyn read his book. A staffer read it, marked some quotes, highlighted some bits, and gave her the cliffnotes.

I agree. She took him seriously, which I don't think he is used to from other interviewers. They kind of expect him to be a certain way, and when he's speaking serisously about something, it's like they try goading him into some outrageous moment. She didn't do that. She recognized how important his message is, she respected him and his intelligence, and he reciprocated. I think both of them enjoyed talking to each other.

@Jason Chu I actually learned something today from this interview! The part where if you're miserable ask yourself if you've done something altruistic that day. This makes sense. I read a book called 'Undoing Depression' which had the premise that altruism, doing things for others, can lessen depression. It was integral to my recovering from clinical depression. It would make sense that it would help someone in addiction recovery.

It’s amazing how he can adapt to almost any interview setting and interviewer. He’s a great guest. I was anticipating a bit more comedic relief. He definitely fit the segment. The audience looked delayed in their English to American English decoding. I’m glad Megyn booked Russell for the show. I search for any new mass media interview he commits to appearing on. It would be funny to see Russell and Anthony Kiedis volley wit and comedy back and forth as guests or interviewing each other.
