There was some conjecture that the car became underweight because George had done such a long stint in his last set of tyres and the extra tyre wear had taken it under weight. Disqualification seems harsh, maybe a 5 or 10 second penalty

Drivers used to deliberately drive on the marbles on the slowing down lao to pick up more rubber ready for the weighing of the cars after the race.

Guys thats 3.3 pounds! A driver can loose way more than that in a race from water alone. Also the tires where very worn and he didnt pick up rubber after the race was completed, Im sure they cut it close with total dry weights but they would have left him above this limit. To suggest that they are cheating is bit stupid, this stuff does happen from time to time. Unfortunate!

Did anyone notice the bottoming out on Eau Rouge/ Radillon? There was a definite light brown trail and you could see from the head on shots further up a faint cloud of dust being kicked up. Did they check the plank thickness on any cars afterwards?

Yes, that is part of the usual post-race scrutineering for the selected cars. That's how they found out last time with HAM and LEC in the US GP of ... was it 2023? Lewis called it ridiculous then, but when the same rules favor him I guess it's ok. Back then he also called for all cars to be examined post-race. I'm sure he won't call for that today.

I think HAM is lucky his car wasn't checked as well. Because driving an underweight car explains at least some of the raw pace the Merc had today. In a sport where teams spend millions to save just a few grams, there is no "honest mistake" of 1.5 kilograms. There just isn't. They cheated, they gambled, they were found out, they lost. That's it and now let's move on to the next race.

I am not doing so over such exciting racing between two teammates - however, rules need to be applied, and even Verstappen has to abide by them, and so does Russell, even though he is Hamilton's heir apparent. This is not, imo, the way that Hamilton, or any fair-minded driver, would want to win. But, rules is rules for all or none.

Not really. There has to be a limit and if you’re under then you’re under. No matter how they set the rule, teams will try to be as close to the limit as possible, so even building in a tolerance wouldn’t help. And if there was no limit then they’d all go as light as possible and weight would become the determinative factor in the racing.
