Black Friday has been a thing in the UK for a while now, no real complaints as cheaper stuff is great but a few years ago it all came to a head and everyone went mental in Asda (UK Walmart) for some cheap TVs as well as a few other places and it was all over the news. Naturally the UK was wildly ashamed and we all had a sit down and decided it was unbecoming and so when it rolled around the next year everyone behaved themselves to make up for the poor showing the previous year. Naturally none of us clued any of the stores in on this plan so they were all stood around like wallys wondering where the fuck the customers were but we were all in bed because fuck getting up at 6am on a Friday especially as we all got cheap TVs last year. Brits love a bargain but not at the cost of looking like an American.

Black friday used to be crazy in UK until we realised after the first year that you can just buy it online
@jsteadman92624 жыл бұрын
@Rachel P Yeah it's not really like that in the UK though. When we first started it then there were shops doing good deals for the first 50 customers or whatever but even they weren't good enough to merit camping outside the shop for. Other than that the prices are pretty much the same as any other day and still cheaper to just buy online. It was just a big fail in the UK and people quickly realised. Same with this "Cyber Monday" crap.
@emmef79702 жыл бұрын
@@jsteadman9262 That's the point of Black Friday & why crowds of people go ballastic in the U.S. Because in the U.S. you could not get those same prices online or in the store even after Christmas. I have never gone to one. Herd mentality shopping is not my thing. However, I was lucky enough a number of years ago to score a PS4 for my grandson. Regular price $400.00. Black Friday cost $199.00 and there was a limited number available at just a few stores. My son had a friend that worked at an electronic store. Needless to say, that was the best Christmas deal I have ever gotten. Didn't even need to go to the store. That's the only Black Friday story I have. :) I know things have changed since the pandemic, I just don't know how much. I think they may still offer some sale prices that are not offered online. A reason for that is it brings more customers into the store who will more than likely purchase more than that one item. Which ultimately makes up for 50 items they sold at $199.00. So basically they are not losing any money, They are still a making a profit.

Black Friday in the UK ended up being a scam really, after a couple of years of it, which to be fair, you did get a bit of a deal, but, shops took advantage and just tried to play customers by pretending you did by putting prices up to the run up, and then put them back down... Or, like you say, it was cheap arse gear, and I saw in some places they had a little corner where all the decent gear was and it was marked up as not being in the promotion so still full price... And then they went all in with Cyber Tuesdays, and "Black tag" week and other bollocks... It was dismal, typical UK shopping really, people saw through it and basically, they over played their scam, people just went "Erm, no thanks!", shops spoilt it for themselves!!! :D

Black Friday was decent for about two years in the UK..before retailers completely messed it up. Amazon started it here and had great deals, UK retail decided to play catch up the following year..and had great deals...and then they all decided that Black "FRIDAY" should last about 3 weeks (so the rush wasn't on just 1 day)..and most now charge higher prices in the sale, than they were charging a few weeks before. It's a pretty worthless event now.
