You are dead right with your comments my friend . When I was at school (UK church school) we were taught that the term "Black " Was considered offensive ...I think because it gave racists the chance to use an expletive after it , so we were taught to say "coloured" so as not to cause offense ....30 years later its the exact opposite so its no wonder that different generations trip them selves up . but as long as the intentions are pure we have to give some grace , some latitude . Some times things change faster than we do as people. Love your channel !!

Your final monologue is so spot on. The jokes in this sketch aren't designed to be making fun of homosexuality, the target of the joke is the nervous dad who puts his foot in it. He's uncomfortable but that is not the same as being unaccepting. This sketch would have been very progressive back in it's day, because it is all about someone from an older generation, trying to be there for his son in the best way he can, with all of his flaws and imperfections on show.

Glad you enjoyed it AWR, Enfield was one of the top comedians and invented so many brilliant characters. I think its dealing with the anxiety of the situation, I would find it awkward if my son was Gay and he brought his boyfriend for the first time, and be struggling with the situation, this comedy plays on those toe curling moments we all go through.
