RIP Russell Malone, one of the greatest living blues and jazz players.
@SteveMichaelSmith5 жыл бұрын
Russell Malone plays a "monster" solo but Benny Green seems to never run out of ideas. Christian McBride takes on huge task of backing these musicians and then plays an articulate and challenging solo. They carry the tradition to a new level of excellence!

I’m a metal guitar guy, but this performance is so masterful and musical (and technical), I feel compelled to add Malone to my playlist. What an astonishing master. RIP.

Wow! Russell Malone just knocks me *out*. Really all three of these cats do--they're such great masters of their respective instruments. And this is a very "technical" tune, a real work out for the fingers. But to take it at that blistering tempo, and yet play so musically, with such great variety & feeling, and great interplay between the voices--it's a thing of real beauty.

so sorry he died, a great guitar player. I remember seeing him at North Sea Jazz with benny green, they were performing as a duo. Blistering fast solos by the both of them endless ideas..., it was a great concert.

Beautiful tribute to the great Wes Montgomery. Russell plays it to perfection. I’m completely saddened by his sudden passing.

Damn! I keep running into old KZbin videos of some really great musicians from back in the day (the 90s) I had never heard of before. I keep asking myself how the hell did I miss this player or that player! Always considered myself very informed of who's who and what's what in music for most of my life. KZbin, on the other hand, makes me feel like I've been living under a rock all my life! Outstanding!

This is beyond impressive. Russell Malone, Benny Green, and Christian McBride are 2nd coming of Oscar Peterson Trio with Joe Pass and Ray Brown! BG's hypersonic octave riffs are the ultimate display in jazz virtuosity with melodic content. Russell Malone led the Charge like "Secretariat"" out of the gate. CMac got in on the party with a straight up bottoms up low blow to the solo plexus. The trio's exclamation point was "Off da Heezy"! Can u dig it?

Seriously? He's one of the most gracious, kindest people I know. During one of his shows I caught, a woman shattered a glass during a quiet moment, and afterwards he genuinely THANKED her for it, for keeping him in the present moment. He's got hella respect for the music and for other people.

One thing about the guitarist community I hate is this holier than thou perception when it comes to people playing fast. Its not a fucking sin , there is nothing wrong with showing off. Hell virtuosity and even performing by nature is showing off. Why should people stifle themselves so that a few arm chair critics can feel like their opinions are valid.There is nothing wrong with appreciating slower paced works but don't disregard those who inject a bit more tempo into theirs, because it really isn't fucking easy to play this fast , this well.

Yes! He studied with GB privately as did Mark Whitfiled. Melvin Sparks taught me the grip.I still use it but practice with the Django grip or just the thumb. It makes my GB grip for lines and cross picking effortless. howevr, The Django grip is very interesting and I do know the real power is the Fretboard hand and ear not the picking! I hear space in music ,so that determines what I do.Plus I played a brass Instrument and sing! Machine gun stuff gets old quick especially if no stories happening
