I think this is exactly what Doctor Who needs! RTD always knew Who better than anyone and his skill at writing and crafting series long srches was incredible~I am now no longer worried for the future of Who but geuinely excited!Instead of being concerned we can now relax and know that we will finally be able to just enjoy Doctor Who again! So cant wait for event tv again, hopefully a spin 0ff series or 2, and a return to the series being a worldwide smash that is truly exciting and thrilling with characters that feel real that I care about and want tok watch!!! So excited about this!!

Doctor who is back in it's golden era again, this era will typically last for at least another 4 years, due to how Russell lays out his episodes, and probably a male doctor

At the moment I still think it's rather strange a former showrunner is returning but I trust he has some fresh ideas and will take the show into a new direction. What I also like is that he is a writer who knows the Doctor inside and out and likes to tell what drives the Doctor. I also hope he puts the holiday specials back to Christmas again. :)

OH. MY. GOD. RTD is coming back!? Well at least we know there is some light at the end of the tunnel! Now that Russell and Julie are back, maybe it's more likely we'll see Tennant and dare I say Eccleston return for the 60th? However, as far as the 14th Doctor, with Russell keeping his cast usually, the rumours of Olly Alexander from It's A Sin, could definitely be one to look out for in my opinion.

I just hope RTD gives us something really fresh so we don't go "Oh, it's like that thing from Series 3!" I love the stuff he's done before but that should stay in 2005-2010, so this new era has an identity that doesn't feel like a copy of that. I'm not trying to say he should do NOTHING that worked before because the stories were stellar back then. But things in Universe like how all the companions came from modern day Earth and out of universe things like bringing back Murray Gold. Amazing and fresh things back then, but would feel too samey now. Hope that makes sense.

This was a surprise. I'm just ready for Doctor Who to be really good again; hopefully RTD is up to the challenge. The only way I want to see Tennant back is if they do a one-off episode with him as the half-human Doctor traveling with Rose in that alternate reality they're stuck in. P.S. I can't wait to see more of the Purple Doctor!

God, let it not be said that Doctor Who hasn't been kind to us over the past few years. Returning talent alone we've had John Barrowman return to the show, Christopher Eccleston return as the Doctor for Big Finish, and now Rusty himself has returned for round 2! And that's excluding all of the amazing expanded media content like Time Lord Victorious we had last year. Insane time to be a Doctor Who fan, I'm so glad to have not jumped the shark.

The NMD crowd are treating this as if it's a victory for their cause, ignoring that RTD himself has no issues with there being a female Doctor or that he took a shot at UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in his Rose epilogue short story portraying him as an Auton survivor from the events of that episode. There was an actual 2005 column ranting about the revived series first episode Rose, complaining about how it's political correct and how it's sexist to white straight males. (sound familiar?)

I'm a long-time Doctor Who Fan. I've got a crazy collection, from books to figures and beyond. I'm currently working on some Doctor Who artwork. With that said, this is GREAT news. When I first saw it, I was like, YES! The show needed a boost. Russell brought the show back to great heights when the show made its comeback. Chibnall tried, but he fell short at times. Jodie should have had a better showrunner, but at the same time, I think that the Doctor role may have been too much for her. I would love to see Helena Bonham Carter in that role. Maybe another female would have fit more. Still, Jodie is a hell of an actress. The books with her Doctor play out better. I highly recommend them. Here's to Doctor Who heading back to great heights.

I'm pretty excited about this, but let's be a little cautious about him considering what happened with Christopher Eccleston. A guy doesn't leave after just one series over nothing.

This is certainly news that has made the fanbase rejoice. I have somewhat mixed feelings on it, though. RTD was undoubtedly the best of the three showrunners and, given the passage of time, it having been nearly 12 years since he left, I trust he brings something new to the table this time and not retread old ground. My only real gripe with this news is that because Doctor Who, by it's very nature of being a show about time travel, thrives on renewal and moving forward, I would've liked to have had fresh blood to take over the reins and put their own stamp on it. This does strike me as a bit of a step back and smells like desperation on the BBC's part, if I may be so blunt. Having said all that, before anybody jumps down my throat, I'm totally willing to give it a go; it's Doctor Who, I'm always gonna give it a go. I imagine he has since changed and grown as a writer - still need to watch Years & Years and It's a Sin, particularly the latter - so it'll be interesting to see what he has up his sleeve this time around. Time will tell. It always does.

The split in opinion seems pretty obvious. For some, RTD is the saviour of Dr Who and brought it back from the dead. And that's undeniable. It NEVER had the kind of attention or critical acclaim when I was growing up with it that it has even today. My chief concern is that, whatever new he brings to it, there will be a feeling that the BBC have, in some way, bottled it. But, as always, time will tell.

I'm torn. I know RTD will make excellent Doctor Who, but with the somewhat divisive Chibnall era that was typically either loved or loathed (I really was dead centre. I was neither enthralled nor bored by his time), does it smack any of a desperate move to try to undo some "damage"? Also, strong Richard Ayoade vibes, which I dig. :D

I think Russell t Davies is a good writer but all can learn from other writers doesn't matter how good you are I think Russell t Davies will have learnt you can have a Scottish accent and be gay or be a woman on screen also I can't see the camera going back to the way it was they've got a whole new camera system
