I like your balanced analyses. With regard to the failed 4th down attempt, you absolve the coaches but I don't think you can. First of all, as you note, that should've been a punt. They got a quick fg and we lose by 2 pts. Second, they are the ones who chose to put Jaylen in there instead of Najee -- that's on the coaches. Third, they are the ones who chose to put Russell in there instead of Justin -- that's on the coaches. Finally, they are the ones who repeatedly run Dan Moore out there (game after game, year after year) when he doesn't perform -- when players aren't accountable for their mess-ups, they continue to mess up. That's on the coaches. At the end of the day, it's the coaches (and, by failure to act on coaches, ownership) who let this team down. I can't remember the last time the Steelers beat a superior team b/c their side outcoached the other side.... We never seem to outscheme anyone and that lack of creativity has to wear down the players game after game.

This is the most cogent argument I have read, but I still believe it is not the coaches. I mean if we go by your statements everybody is supposed to be perfect all of the time. If we go by your statements, BroderickJones should be off the field. If we go by your statement Justin Fields should not be playing either. I cannot think of a better way to say this except it is hard to get a good coach like Coach Tomlin, coach Cower, how long did Coach Coward coach before he won with Roethlisberger? Who else one with Roethlisberger? When the players come together we can find greatness. If I was upset about anything out of the Pittsburgh lifetime it would’ve been when Roethlisberger rode without a helmet on in downtown Pittsburgh and ran into an old lady. Talk about shortsighted behaviors. We gotta quit blaming coaches so easily., but it is not hard to end up with a coach like many of the other teams.. I mean we have more than half the other teams with lackluster coaches whom don't measure up to coach Tomlin.
@SteelersAlmighty2 күн бұрын
I agree with a lot of what you said. But i didn't absolve the coaches. I specifically said you can't blame it all on them. Professional football teams have to be able to get 4 inches. More on the gameplan. Russ can see the field look at Seattle even when he didn’t scramble he would still throw to the open guy. I’m not sure you can lose that ability. Either someone told Russ something in Denver hence Sean Payton, or the scheme and plays Russ doesent know. Cause Russ can make those throws he did it vs cinci the first time. We and him were in a pass first rhythm tho it’s on the gameplan to give more attempts to Russ to help him heat up. Cause if you get 1 coverage on third down when your passing for the first time there’s only one coverage to look at on the iPad on the sideline if you throw on first you can look at another coverage they’ll run against you.

On the first play, it looks like Pickens is running 3/4 speed through his route. He must have been the first read, and he never gets open. I'm not sure he can just stop if Russ is expecting him to keep going. Now Russ could have gone to the checkdown, but I think Pickens might have been a bit at fault. On the second play, you had a single safety and man coverage on Pickens running the vertical outside. Russ is always going to throw to Pickens, especially if the other two receivers are running crossing routes right toward the middle safety. In hindsight, the crossers came open, but I'm not surprised Russ pulled the trigger on Pickens right away.
@BetaNurse682 күн бұрын
When you have the same issues across seasons regarding blocking, assignments etc, at some point you have to say it is on the coaches. Because at that point what’s the common denominator and why do we still have the same guy in? If it’s because he’s the best we have, that begs the next question. Why do we not know our personnel enough to call the right plays in the right situations? Again coaching as well as the players but the biggest consistent is coaching.

What is this guy looking at? That first play, friermuth absolutely was not open. Jaylen was open for half a second for 1 yard gain. Pickens is clearly who Russ is looking for, and he does in fact run into coverage. By the time he gets to the other reads they aren't open and Russ takes a sack. That's football. And Pickens needs to be traded for being over hyped and not worth the trouble.

DId you just say Russ staying on his 1st read so long that he takes a sack is ok? The definition of a QBs job is to get through his reads and get rid of the ball. The sack is squarely on him. It's ok to say it.

Not scared, lack of trust most likely. And I’m sure tomlin is telling him not to turn the ball over. Thats been his motto for 3 years now. Russ is old and timid back there. I trust justin as long as he doesn't feel the need to run everytime he panics and thinks there's pressure..sometimes being willing to stand in there and get hit might pay off if you can put the ball up.. there's also always the chance of a PI and we know the refs will call it quick. You also can't get hit a certain way as a QB nor can you get hit late. The league protects these guys and we still chose to be a team that won't use it to our advantage but let it happen to our defense repeatedly
