*decriminalized. If they were legalized, you could go to a cocaine dispensary and buy your bump with your visa. Decriminalized means that if you are caught in possession of a couple of grams of illegal drugs then you will not be prosecuted as a criminal and do jail time. Possessing a larger amount would be Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, which is not decriminalized so you'd still be charged and prosecuted. You will see more addicts around because they're caught using drugs they aren't being thrown in jail. Jail time for drug use was less than 2yrs, but we all know prison is a pretty awful place to be. Even if you only get 6 months, is that person going to leave jail ready to get a job and pay rent? Or are they going to have been beaten and abused and have even worse mental health problems?

They think what they are doing is fulfilling a moral sensibility, but the social risk it creates is so extreme, their decision is actually a grotesque immorality. Thousands of years of bloodshed PROVE this is the case. It has never been the case where a government decides to tell people only the what the government thinks they should hear and the outcome is better than when the people have the right to free speech. When free speech is upheld, there is LESS violence, destruction and corruption even though it seems on face value that it should not be the case. Among other things, it teaches the people to be less reactionary, more measured in their immediate decision-making, less prone to being ployed to respond, less psychologically controllable, and more able to peacefully disagree. When you make it the responsibility of a person hearing different ideas and opinions, they are empowered and charged with responsibility for themselves - that's the power seat in every negotiation. History shows evidence in bloody upheaval after upheaval, not to mention the viciousness and cruelty the public has endured when other organizations, aiming at the best for humanity, instead created authoritarian nightmares. The proof is well-documented in history: free speech means less senseless violence, and better conditions, always.
