I never understood the idea of the government banning anything. Where aloud to sky dive, bungee jump and other shit. We know the danger but we still can. Why ban shit like weed, alcohol, cigarettes or anything. It’s people’s own choice
@masonthompson513
@masonthompson513 3 жыл бұрын
To play devil’s advocate, cigarettes and alcohol are much more accessible than bungee jumping and skydiving, especially to children. They also cause addiction, and the addiction is relatively affordable to satisfy. People who smoke from a young age are likely to do it the rest of their lives. Also, bungee jumping and sky diving are dangerous, yes. But in the sense that driving a car is dangerous. An accident may happen. But cigarettes actively affect your health in a negative way. Every ciggy brings you one step closer to a very likely cancer. I don’t agree with the government banning anything. I think people should have the freedoms to do whatever they want to themselves. I was just countering your argument, which is weak
@020finnnn
@020finnnn 3 жыл бұрын
@@masonthompson513 yes sure but let me give some other examples, sugar or gambling for instance. I’ll start with gambling since I don’t know the situation in the usa. But atleast in the Netherlands the government got a big share in gambling making a lot of money from it. And something like sugar that almost everyone is addicted to with out realizing, even more available then cigarettes, and causing health issues and possible death. But I’d stil get upset if they ban sugar. It’s a hard dilemma to find a good line where the government should and shouldn’t take away our freedom for health benefits.

Very common misconception, but the main reason we use peroxide is not to kill germs. It's for cleaning out dirt or anything in the wound. The liquid goes in and as it reacts the dirt is pushed out with the foam.
@bjornzek
@bjornzek 2 жыл бұрын
this is true but using peroxide is also counterintuitive because it hurts the healing of the wound by damaging the cells that rush to the site of injury that begin the healing process, it’s always best to just rinse with gentle soap and water and cover with some kind of petroleum or antibiotic cream, unless it’s a deep gash which does do need saline or peroxide rinses

09:55 I completely agree with Blaise on this issue. That's why I lean libertarian in my political beliefs. I think personal responsibility should be key to how society treats human freedom. Can I smoke one pack of cigarettes and quit? Sure, it's more than possible. But, when we start taking away rights and freedoms because someone "might" hurt themselves, that opens a huge can of worms. Where does that train of thought end? Are we going to ban cheeseburgers and ice cream because someone "might" become overweight? It's an incredibly slippery slope.

The reason I used peroxide for injuries was to clean the dirt out. The foaming liftsvavlot of the dirt and stuff out. Clean the wound, peroxide oxidizes the blood and pulls up dirt and stuff, then you wash it again and sterilize it. I hope I haven't been doing it wrong my whole life. Lol.

Well you could call tradition a use case. Humans have been using alcohol for so long we've evolved to be able to handle it better. Cigarettes legitimately have no use case and are a global leader in lethality at about 7 million deaths per year globally. The cost burden of smoking gets passed on to the state regardless of privatized healthcare because debt trickles down until someone declares bankruptcy or goes to jail. ie the tax payer pays eventually, just not why or where you'd think.

I am constantly amazed by most Americans attitude towards healthcare it would work out so much cheaper if everyone had to kick in not only so much cheaper but then every single person is covered doesn't matter where you are in the country you just walk in to any hospital and get treated. The other thing nobody seems to bring up is if you had that system there is nothing stopping you getting extra, quicker or better treatment by paying a bit extra and going private. I am forever thankful that I live in a country that provides healthcare for all at no cost at point of service, so for around £100 a month all my health care is covered hospital visits & stays, doctor appointments, tests and most dental work also this system helps with any medication no matter what it is if its prescribed by a doctor the cost is £12.

Helmet law is the definition of what the US was *not* supposed to be. You don't hurt anyone else, if anything you are making yourself a softer object in favour of others. Freedom of expression 101. (I always wear a helmet except on a bicylce. Dude im going ~12mph, not wearing a helmet when jogging either.)

ie like having just enough government support to keep people from needing to go on government support etc. basically a Timothy Sandefur view on the constitution (look him up he’s great) but with a Milton Friedman economic view

Sad thing is, America probably _is_ probably the best and most free developed country left -- however, I wouldn't have said that in the past. The bar is very low these days -- most of the first world, privileged countries are slowly becoming police states, valuing percieved safety and security over personal freedom and liberty. Having no free healthcare is probably the one _huge_ downside to living in the US. Don't think I am a biased American, either. I say this as a Canadian living in Canada.

The uk makes £3 in tax for every £1 spent on smoking related illnesses the nhs is being propped up by smokers
@lucasc5622
@lucasc5622 3 жыл бұрын
and out of that 3 pound tax only 50p of it gets to the nhs. if we assume 30% of that 50p goes to corruption and inefficiencies like 30 Million pound government contracts being given to tory party donors, your 3 pound thats propping up our health service goes away pretty quick

Put a tax on dangerous behaviours for medical use. Tax on ciggies to be used to hospital cover for those who need. Include a fee on motorcycle licenses for accident covers etc. Yes, people still might pay for medical help that they may never use, but its a risk still taken.

I think personal freedom is a human right but I also kinda love Russias dedication to personal health. They encourage exercise in ways that actually matter like letting people use exercise on machines that will give them free subway tokens. Every country should do that. Franky, its why russians are just better looking. Not only do they have great facial features but they're generally in much better shape than Americans. The hottest women in the world are Russian or former ussr and no homo but the dudes look better than us too
