I’m two minutes in and of course reading the comments but his statements on the validity of calories in and calories out regarding how different peoples gut biomes may convert different foods more completely into energy is most likely true. In a sense a diverse group of people could eat an identical protein and have different efficiency converting said protein into energy. That being said as a general rule of thumb cico is applicable to dieting and should be the foundation for any diet plan.
@Dannycottingham223 жыл бұрын
I also chose protein and not carbohydrates or sugar intentionally because carbs and sugar are very easily digested by microorganisms and the variance between peoples ability to convert said compounds would be significantly less (but would still exist). I’m not sure about the mechanics of microorganisms processing triglycerides though but I’d assume it’s between sugars and proteins.

It’s always calories in vs calories out. Problem is wee cannot exactly calculate what we burn. So you have to wing it
@whitestguyuknow3 жыл бұрын
Right. All of it is a vague idea of what you're eating or burning. Yes there's differences in 5, 10, or 100 calories. But that's negligible. Calories in/calories out literally works and that's how weight loss is done. Period.
@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive322 жыл бұрын
@@user-rl6wr2ny7f Not only does high insulin make you store fat it also prevents you from burning stored fat. This is why the current advise on constantly snacking 6 meals a day bullshit is so bad. Because you would think oh if I am eating X amount of calories less than I need my body will compensate by burning fat, but no. Because you are constantly grazing your constantly raising insulin which locks you out of fat metabolism. Now your body is on a caloric deficit despite you being literally covered in calories and the only way it can negate starvation is to tank your metabolism. Where as instead if you stick to like one meal a day and low carb your insulin depletes and you start using that body fat for fuel. It's why I am currently 48 hours into a fast and I don't feel hungry in the slightest, because I gave my body time to start eating the fat on my body., where as if I was constantly snacking in a caloric deficit I would be ravenously hungry right now.
@IsaacMorgan982 жыл бұрын
Eh, that is true that if amount of calories absorbed is equal to amount of calories expended then bodyweight will not change. Buuuuut it's more nuanced than that. Hunger is a primary driving factor for eating food and if I eat all my days calories in quickly digesting simple carbs and sugars at the start of the day then you can bet I'm eating something throughout the day cause my blood sugar will get to low, things like grelin and letting will be secreted and I'll be driven to get more food putting me over my calorie limit. The form your food comes in when injested can change what does and doesn't get absorbed including calories and nutrients. Also hormones do play a role in body composition. Men, whose wives are expecting, have higher levels of progesterone which causes little to no weight change but will cause them to store more fat on the same caloric intake. It's still calories in, calories out for maintaining bodyweight. But there are things that alter body composition and things that drive inappropriate hunger signalling.
@IsaacMorgan982 жыл бұрын
@@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Yup, lipohypertrophy is fat accumulation around frequent insulin injection sites. Diabetics have to deal with it. Calories absorbed for calories burned does work but there's just so many factors that interfere with what's consumed/absorbed and what's burned

Kyle is right about people wanting to lose weight and finding crazy diets or complex ways of looking at food. My mother has been obese for most of her adult life and she's always looking for these weird ways to diet or lose weight but the one thing she's never done is just worked out consistently and eat like the rest of the family. I feel bad for her bc she had a terrible childhood with abuse in the home but I wish she could just say to herself "be active once a day and eat clean." There was one time she hit the gym a ton where she was doing triathlons and such. Almost to an obsessive amount. I even told her recently to sign up for something similar as in a 5k walk/run that way she has to meet a goal. I dont think she cares when me, my dad, and brother say "hey we wanna see you hiking with us when we go on trips." My family is so fucked up and im essentially writing a diary post in a PKA clip comment haha this counts as free consoling i guess haha

Eating while watching is a treat. I recall when I was fat how much food meant. When not fat I can take it or leave. 24 hour fasting takes no effort opposed to how hungry I'd become overweight.
@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive322 жыл бұрын
This is mostly due to hormones, namely insulin and ghrelin. One interesting study I saw was they injected healthy people with a small amount of extra insulin per day, all of them in an extremely reliable way started to pack on the pounds despite their activity level or health, it's also why diabetes and obesity are so strongly correlated. The most effective way I have found to lower insulin is to simply eat less often and my desire for food especially unhealthy foods have plummeted since then. Ghrelin hormone is released based on time usually in short bursts when you normally would eat so if you normally say eat at 07:00, 12:00, and 18:00 it's why you will get food cravings and hunger pangs at around those times. The best way to deal with ghrelin is to either recognize it as a false hunger and know it's temporary and will dissipate or make when you eat meals less regular and sporadic.

Like legitimately, during my worst weight cut, I made a calorie plan which fits in what I burn from sports and every two days "bam lost the predicted weight" like it was scary how accurate it was. HOWEVER, to achieve this you just need an active lifestyle to burn off any excess you gain from actually enjoying life. I think hunger pings are what’s hard for people to get over or don’t understand, and I think that’s where the differentiation of types of foods/cals might help with the most. Because your body is craving the bag of chips, or piece of toast that you’re changing in your diet, so instead to satiate the fat you want an avocado, hard boiled egg you can lean on that.
@MixedReadings3 жыл бұрын
It literally is just calories in Vs calories out when trying to lose or gain weight. If I'm ever changing weight for a competition or just trying to get more lean I'll just add or subtract 500 calories from my TDEE and I'll always lose or gain weight at around the same rate. It can be even further simplified to: Eat less, move more. If you want to get super lean or increase performance you can then move into macros and individual vitamins and minerals but the basic concept is the same.

I don’t drink soda or fruit juice anymore because as soon as you juice fruit you’re instantly losing more than 50% of the nutrients and vitamins so if I want something fruity I’ll eat a piece of fruit. Calories in vs calories out is correct but it's not the entire picture. When insulin is raised your body is essentially locked out of fat metabolism and cannot burn the calories stored in body fat. I would like to see a study where people are put on a caloric deficit but put on different eating schedules for example one group is told to constantly snack 6-8 times a day like current medical advise, the second group is put on one meal a day, and the third group is put on 48h fasts. I would be willing to bet that the group put on 24-48 hour fasts lose more weight than the group eating 6-8 times a day despite the same caloric deficit simply because they are giving their body time to clear out the blood glucose and insulin to lower. We have seen studies that do the opposite where healthy people are injected with insulin and they all despite diet and life style started to gain weight and become less energetic and motivated. But ofcourse fasting is not profitable, you cannot sell fasting, you cannot make money off simply telling someone to keep their gob shut for 24-48 hours in-between meals.
@sambadham14042 жыл бұрын
@@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Sorry but that's bollocks. Your body doesn't not give a shit if you eat one massive meal a day or ten tiny meals, all that counts is the calories in total consumed. Burning fat through exercise? Totally different topic but since at best you burn 10% of your daily calories going to the gym daily it's not particularly relevant. That said any exercise that gives you a very high heart rate like running will mean you will start burning muscle, low heart rate exercise like walking rather than running will burn fat.

Sorry Woody you are wrong it preety much boils down to calories in and calories out all the variants that seem to defy that rule are not a factor enough to alter that rule. The science adds up bro. A pound of fat is around 3.3k calories and that's all you really need to know that and how many calories are in the foods your eating. That is the secret to managing your weight and diet.

The fact that Woody doesn’t understand thermodynamics is blowing my mind it’s literally calories in calories out how is it not so if you eat 2000 cal of Twinkies you will not get that but if you eat 4000 cal of Twinkies you’re going to get fat

Weight management: how many meals/meals and snacks do you like to eat per day?: 1-6 Start eating that many meals. If you are gaining weight after a couple weeks, reduce the fat and carb sources a bit in 1 of the meals. Reassess in a couple weeks. Keep dropping the food amount 1meal at a time until you stop gaining weight. If you are losing weight after a couple weeks, increase the fat and carb sources a bit in 1 of the meals. Reassess in a couple weeks. Keep increasing the food amount 1meal at a time until you stop losing weight. Now if you want to gain weight, add a little bit of food to 1meal keep it there until you stop gaining, then add food to another meal, etc. If you have problems gaining weight, rather than just more of the meal, try adding in a spoonful of peanut butter during the meal and do the same thing. Lose weight: reduce the food one meal at a time, or replace some of the foods in a meal to lower the calorie burden: 1 cup of rice is more calories than 1/2 cup of rice + 1/2 cup of cauliflower rice Almond milk coffee creamer is less calories than heavy whipping cream, half and half or any dairy coffee creamers Almond milk is the lowest calorie milk alternative. Etc

When I was 21 I lost give or take 50 pounds (I’m 6’1) over the course of 6 months. I was about 225 (mostly fat) and got down to about 175 with a healthy body fat percentage. That being said I need to mention that I had GAINED that 50 pounds over the course of my first two years of college. The freshman 15 is bullshit. You do put on weight faster, but people don’t mention it’s because when your off on your own drinking a case every week and eating whataburger every night at 1 am you kind of gain weight. People try to normalize gaining a lot of weight as you get older and it’s genuinely disgusting. I actually really like Woody and surprisingly most of his takes but his take here is the one that the majority of people have and it causes so many damn excuses. I used it for two years. It really is as simple as calories in calories out. I’m 24 now. To any college dudes out there right now, have fun. It’s ok to do that, but also don’t fall into a hole. Go to Walmart and spend 50 bucks a week on healthy groceries instead of 200 on fast food, beer, and weed. Don’t make excuses. I regret that I did because I’m not even super in shape now, I go to the gym like 4 days a week and just do the bare basics at a pretty standard level of intensity. I’m just maintaining while eating pretty healthy. It’s MUCH easier to maintain, then it is to climb out of the hole. God I hate talking about myself I’m sorry, but I hope this helps anyone who is trying to lose weight or better themselves. You got this!

Fast. Try fasting. Do 3 days to start, it's not as bad feeling as you think, and it's the healthiest thing you can do.

The thing that drives me insane about people with a "slow metabolism" is the complete lack of comprehension that that means they require less food to survive. To put what i mean in perspectice, imagine my 5'6", 110 lb girlfriend gained 20 lbs and her excuse was that i, her 6'3" 200 lb boyfriend, am lucky to have a bigger body and get to eat more food. Wtf does that have to do with her? Im twice her size. No sh*t i eat more. Its the same thing for different metabolic rates. I dont "get to" eat more food. I NEED TO eat more food. It's literally like being jealous of a lion because it "gets to" eat an entire Zebra without getting fat. No, stupid, a lion is way bigger and more active than you. It would starve if it could only eat the 3500 calories you shovel in your face every day. Lions get fat, too. Quit judging the amount you eat based on other people. That's not how it works.

“The body doesn’t strictly follow the law of thermodynamics” just because you’re too ignorant to understand how something works doesn’t mean it goes against the LAW of thermodynamics that’s like saying birds flying goes against the laws of gravity since they don’t fall

“Every 11 days they cut 1lb that is ginormous” bruh we cut that a week while maintaining muscle mass for bodybuilding shows that’s fucking nothing for an average person not trying to sustain a physique that the body is actively trying to break down at the same time. The dude is massively overselling 1) how much the type of food impacts the calories you take from it 2) the size of 300 calories 3) how hard it is to lose weight, it’s easy AF, it’s miserable but it’s fucking easy

I hate schools dieting advice they really do a poor job at highlight how to have a good diet they do this by mainly targeting foods like pizza ,burgers ,french-fries ,chips saying how you should never eat these foods but then serving meals like pizza ,burgers ,french-fries ,chips for cheaper price then the actual healthy foods like apples, oranges, and blueberries even when they have healthy food in there cafeteria they make it worse by adding melted disgusting cheese on it and whip cream it gets even worse when the schools make getting seconds like a normal thing everyone does. this is kinda why you see most kids get obese before they even hit middle school

I don't agree with the not much difference between fast and slow metabolism thing. I actively try to get fat. I shoot for 3,000 calories a day and I still am a tall gangly treeman.

Pluto *technically* is still a planet. But it's a dwarf planet. Biggest reason to not consider it a planet is that there are multiple moons within out star system that are larger than Pluto. My opinion (even supported by Neil Degrasse Tyson) is that you recategorize the Earth and Moon as a binary planet system. Not as Earth and Moon because we meet all the requirements of being a binary planet system but just don't because we're the Earth and the moon is the moon, it always has been, and so it shall be, you know?

Calories in/calories out is very relevent when it comes to maintaining body composition, but nutrient partitioning is also a key player in body composition, and it really comes down to insulin sensitivity. People with very active lifestyles will partition 2500 calories in a much more desirable way than somebody who plays xbox 14 hours a day. the healthy person will have those calories going to building/maintaining muscle mass (and every calorie in excess of that will become fat), while the inactive person will use those calories to maintain/build fat mass. fat people usually are just food adicts, and will make all sorts of excuses why they are fat other than they love food too much for their own good.
