When I bought this game I thought the title were “Russia Besiegt” which in German means “defeated”.

Can you define Survive the first half of the game? Does that mean the Germans have Achieved the VC necessary for a win?

@@StewsReplay I was speaking of Russian 'survival' at that time in the game, through 1942, which means the Germans do not achieve a win in the first half of the game, and the game then moves to the second half, that is, from 1943 on, when the probabilities for winning switch. At that point and beyond, it becomes a question of German survival to 1945; if they do, they can win the game. Note -- these probabilities are arbitrarily chosen for illustrative purposes. I don't think anybody has any idea of the real chances, just an overall impression that the Germans have an advantage in winning during the first half. If so, this is NOT balanced by giving the Russians a better chance of winning in the second half! Even if the Russians have a 100% chance of winning in the second half, they only have a 20% chance of winning overall. I think this is why the second half of the game isn't played much, people stop when there has been clear indications of a German win or loss by the end of 1942; it's pointless to try to stop the Russians after that; it's too hard.

Maybe it's designed, as it should be, like France 40..where France WILL fall, but the "win" is determined by when the Germans satisfy the VC. @@marchanna

Can't you argue that for EVERY WWII game? Most enjoy the fighing...unfortunately, the German gives up too soon to allow the Allies to Kick the shit out of him like they've been kicked. @@marchanna
