Just as an interesting historical note, the State of Slovenians, Croatians and Serbs actually existed for a very short time and didn't include Serbia. Serbia annexed it and it became the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia

Yeah that was the big reason the Germans wanted it during the Munich conference, then after the war the Czech government decided “fine you wanna be German, go be German” and kicked them out to Germany

The Czechoslovakian government never wanted to concede Sudetenland (It was a natural deterrent from German invasion due to its hills and built in defences). They were forced too. France and the UK (Italy too but who cares about them lol) told them too after the Munich conference (which they weren't invited to). It was a betrayal from France and the UK which lead to their annexation without bloodshed. A famous image of Czech tanks mixed with german tanks going down the champ elysee in Paris shows how badly selling out Czechoslovakia was for the allies.

100% agree with you at the end. Great mod, until the end of WW1, then it just falls of a cliff. The one-two gut punch of the scripted peace deal and then the post-war recovery is just a bad idea.

While howitzers are way more expensive than regular artilery,you use less of them on a battalion than artilery,so in the long run they are actually better artilery for about the same price

The interesting part about the Austrian borders past the treaty in this video was, that unlike in our timeline, they traded the Sudetenland and Czech Sileasia for the Burgenland region, essentially moving they land border with hungary, in this timeline, 50 kilometers closer to vienna, which idk if thats such a great deal lmao

Honestly the great war mod makes me so angry. I enjoy the way the combat is, the slower pace and longer battles are thematic and fun. However, I agree the random events that just break you suck. I played a French Republic game, with historical focuses ON, and for some strange reason Franz Ferdinand never died. I knew something was wrong when I got a notification that "the United states of greater Austria" got declared on by Serbia. However, the serbs lost immediately. No one joined the war. The entente just did nothing. So when my build was ready and I felt I could solo the Germans, I attacked them through the tree in like 1916. Only for the Russians to join the Germans. Which was fine I was able to fight them both alone. That is until 1918 and the Germans owned 1 french town along the border. This made me immediately lose the war even though I was at full stability and war support. And I had killed 2 million Germans and a million Russians, to only 300k. However since they were on my territory the war just ended and I got a shit ton of crazy post war debuffs. It was in that game I realized what you were saying about howitzers is very true. The final tier of howitzer has like 10 less soft attack than regular final tier arty. Which is insane cause for the French it's like some 200mm gun. Then the arty piece is just a 155mm. I know the 15cms were a really powerful class of artillery that's why it's still used today. However, a 200mm howitzer has like double the explosive mass of a traditional arty shell. Soft attack is all about the amount of explosive damage a unit does. Makes 0 sense.

I think the forced demobilization at the end of the great war redux is the point? It forces you to involve everyone that you want to invade in the great war, so you can't take everyone out one by one. So in this case, it wanted to force you to go in on the USA while you were still fighting everyone else

Yeah, it's what keeps me from really playing much of mods like the Great War Redux and Kaiserreich and so forth. That because they're so hung up on scripted peace deals and events in the wake of conflict that it generally just feels hollow to me. "I won the war, got basically nothing, and am in a worse situation for it". I'm sure you can say "but history" but as a game? Eh. Though if it was in a less war focused game like Victoria 3... I probably wouldn't mind as much. Because Victoria 3 is really a game more about internal politics, struggles, and economics. So it makes sense to use that. In HoI4 though? It's not what the game is about and it just doesn't really have mechanics to handle it in any way that feels engaging (even with Mods) that I've found.

Usually when I play Russia I’ll civ rush until the start of 1914 which is when I’ll start building mils after which I spend the next 10 years slogging it out with Germany and Austria in Eastern Europe. Peak hoi4 to be honest. France gets capt early and sometimes I use the console to keep Britain in the war.

The Republic of German Austria really happened. Aside from today's Austrian territory it also claimed Sudetenland, Czech/Austrian Silesia, upper half of today's South Tyrol and a little bit of Slovenia. The borders were like this for 2 reasons. 1 - it encompassed all German inhabitated areas, 2 - they were hoping to be annexed by Weimar Germany (that's why the name of German Austria, they thought that without the monarchs, there is nothing separating Germans and Austrians)
