I work with commercial property. Only Fendi seems to be really closed. Every other brand maintain their signs, the property is not advertised and some even have their merchandise on display. That means they just have suspended their operations but continue to pay rent (which should be huge in that part of Moscow), dont want to lose these shops or leave the Russian market and hope to reopen the moment an opportunity arises.

Russian's citizens themselves should not be putting blamed on authority . The citizens should be learning how to design and introduce logos in their local brand and make it amazing and famous . When you see American brand and logos you says WOW it beautiful . You can also do the same by promote it online and the authority would then support in anyway . That's how American citizens are doing . Don't just relaxing and expect government to do everything for you without you comes up with interested ideas that good for your mother's Land

Im happy to hear. Still many foreign companies stay in business in Russia. Carlsberg, Isover, ecco etc. Danish ones stay to support its workers. Most of my media is western media and biased. @@AahFukIt This is another propaganda and lies. There were several local accidents at heating stations when the frost reached "-30 C". There is nothing unusual about this. But we all know how Western propaganda works. Any household trifle becomes overgrown with media hype, inflates and false conclusions are drawn from this. Judging by the Western media, there are no eggs in Russia, shops are empty, people are suffering, there is no freedom, hunger, people are freezing, etc... It's all a lie from start to finish. Everything that is said about Russia is censored and pursues a political and ideological goal. In general, it is ridiculous to hear from the Western media that there is a problem with central heating in Russia, when there is no heating in Europe itself, frantic gas and electricity bills, official statistics are kept - how many pensioners freeze in their apartments, people store firewood for heating at home. By the way, at about the same time in Finland, in the cities of Tampere, Vantaa, Pohjanmaa, major accidents occurred at heating plants. Water pipes are bursting all over the country. But for some reason we don't hear anything from the media that people in Finland are freezing and we don't hear a similar narrative as about Russia.

@@AahFukIt There are no problems with heating in the house, and when I had -25 in the city, I slept with the window open, because the colder it is outside, the hotter the batteries become. There are probably problems somewhere, but I have been to different cities in winter and have not yet encountered anything like this. Perhaps someone puts cold windows and their temperature is below normal, but mostly this is a rarity In all countries, the media often give wishful thinking, so it's better to travel on your own to form your own opinion. I do not advise you to only choose March and April months for the trip, because it is rainy after winter and the greenery has not yet appeared

Of course, I don't have the money to shop in those stores anyway, so I wouldn't be going there, but for those people who do have that kind of cash to throw around, they ought to be able to buy what they want locally, providing jobs for people living in that area as opposed to flying to a different nation to do their shopping and that money not being returned to your local economy. We were absolutely true, those wealthy people are currently buying in Dubai and Instambul. There they have their new residence, instead of Paris, Milan or London. But e.g. ESCADA is operating, at least in Leninsky av. And you still can see the last models of BMW, Bentley and Audi in Moscow. So, they are brought through other channels. As you said, whom can pay 120.000€ for a car, can pay 40.000 more for bringing them to Moscow center. By the way, many of those small luxury items are being sold by the F&F (Friends and family) method. Let us not forget that because of the sanctions, the Russian border is not specially interested on controlling those small 'commercial expeditions'. By the way also, some of those luxury bags or watches are not worth 2.000, but 70.000€ at least. So, it worth a visit, even to Istambul or Tel Aviv, which are literally around the corner for those wealthy ones.

@@dodgex6592 I understand, .... you probably don't have a private plane, or a 1.400.000$ car, or 3 or 4 huge mansions, or 2 or 3 300ft yatch. You don't pay only for this. You pay for the exclusivity. You pay for something that only you and 10 persons have in the planet. Is like flying in business. They bring you to the same place than the others, but you have something else, better. Increase the level, buy a plane. Invite your friends and family. Forget about checking lines, average fligh catering, all of this. If you cannot have, you are not different. Which is not bad. But is not exclusive. That's why you pay.

It is simple, sanctions are not designed to prevent russians acquiring these brands, they are deisgned for russians to pay more to this products and therefore affecting the economy. Think of this, a rich russian girl travelling to dubai, she will spend her money in dubai, not in russia.

Thanks for a tour of the luxury shopping district. If Russians go abroad to buy expensive products do they have to pay tax on the items purchased when they return to Russia? Have you been affected by power cuts or communal heating problems?. Where I live the weather is cold and this afternoon the internet was down!

Tax must be paid for importing cars. We have no power outages. In some settlements, due to abnormal cold weather, there was an accident in centralized heating systems. This problem is being urgently resolved. In Russia, most houses have a central heating and water supply system and apartments are quite warm. Personally, I walk around in my apartment in my underpants even though it’s -30 C outside

I am surprised that the brands still remain in the shops in Russia, although they have not been selling anything for a long time. That would be unthinkable here in Germany, the shop rents are extremely high, especially in the inner cities and in the shopping malls. As soon as a brand no longer sells enough, it will cancel the store as soon as possible and move out there. A very large part of the turnover goes for the store rent. Then, of course, the brand name at the store also disappears immediately.

I can speak from the perspective of someone who lives in "the west" and is familiar with the majority view in society here. We view brands negatively if they're seen to be supportive of Putin or Russia in general during the past two years. Since the Russian market for most of those brands is tiny compared to the part of the world that sees Russia negatively today, from a marketing perspective it's better to be out of Russia. At least officially, so that they don't tarnish their brand image in their largest markets. As you said: rich Russians will get their iPhone 15 Pro Max either way, even if they're paying almost double for the product. And Apple still gets sales to the rich Russians who want that phone who can afford the premium from the middleman markups or a ticket to Dubai. And like you said, poor Russians can't afford many of those luxuries either way, so while Apple is certainly selling fewer iPhones to Russia today (vs 2 years ago), they're not hurting much at all.

Style is not necessarily some Luxury brands and business is not necessarily something successful. But business have lot more chances to survive with the real style. Those are very big wears or accessories,there is smaller ones or small ones more simple. They don't have for sure. The "official" hip hop style brands are smaller but remain high in this category. The "non official" hip hop style brands can be lot smaller. The urban style brands are smaller and depending of the price you can get bigger ones,smaller ones,complex or simple ones.

Imagine if my country got this sanction probably only Chinese and Indian brand car will remain in my country 😅 we almost not worried about the others, because we almost have local substitution for example such like Starbucks, we already have so many coffee shops such as Excelso which already exist before Starbucks came here, Kopi Kenangan, Janji Jiwa, Maxx Coffee. Also branded brands could be replaced with locally made brands. For banking system we already local payment system called GPN for local transaction, if we being cut off from Swift However in the other hand we are not ready yet if Google stops operation in here 😐

Buying branded products from companies that have left the Russian market abroad has the following consequences: it only benefits the economy of the countries that sell them to the detriment of the Russian economy. At the same time, these luxury companies continue in one way or another to maintain their Russian customer base.
@aarhusnord

These luxury brands are just the tip of the iceberg and their closure and importance is mostly symbolical. What may really shake up Russia will be when prices on basic food go up. Especially on what has to be imported. Some of it might be replaced by locally produced food, but that also means an added vulnerability when it comes to livestock diseases, pests and so on. My guess is, that Ukrainian and Western drone production will lead to facilities inside Russia being under constant threat in 2024. Cities such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg needs electricity, oil and gas, fresh water supplies, working transport infrastructure, well supplied hospitals - if these are taken out of the equation, Russian cities will become messy places to be. Also the F16 coalition might eventually allow Ukraine to use these planes deep inside Russia. The drone attack on the Saint Petersburg oil depot and Moscow highrises demonstrated, that Russia is unable to protect its vast airspace. Lack of food, medical supplies, hyperinflation and drone and possibly fighter attacks could be a lot worse for Russians, than Louis Vuitton and Gucci closing down their stores. Russians must rally together against their leadership or face a tough 2024.
