That's what I loved about the old Soviet Union era aircraft. They looked so strange. It was like Boeing, Lockheed and BOAC knew that the KGB had infiltrated their companies. Il-96 was outdated design even by the early 90th standards (when it entered production). By today's standards it's just ancient design. Pretty sure when there are going to be talks of actually buying it Aeroflot would try to get out of the deal by stalling the deal with additional requirements like they do now with Tu-204.
