Ukraine reports over 600 000. Analysts report much more conservative estimates including 70 000 because it's hard to directly link every person and especially during this fog of war. But it's likely something in between, I've been following numbers and seeing how they make estimates and I would say over 300 000 at least. Ukrainian losses are likely very high too but nowhere near these numbers. This is because typically in the historical context, the attacking force always loses double, triple or even more men than the defending force. Ukrainians are also better trained, now at this point more experienced (since the Russians die more and knowledge retains less) and younger. Importing soldiers from third countries, using mercenaries and prisoners was already a bad look for Russia...not they are using the old.

Exactly. Actually, unlike the many failed western 'game changers' supplied to Ukraine, some of the Russian arms have proved to be first class. FAB Guided bombs, Kinzhal & other hypersonic missiles and even Russian drone/missile jamming technology HAVE changed the conflict in the favour of Russia. Also the fact of war is generally the defending side has much fewer casualties and the offending side has much more because you dont need as many troops to secure a front as you need to take it..ESPECIALLY in wars of attrition. Home advantage is real. Its hard to get an exact estimate on numbers but it is almost a certainty that Russia will have the higher casualties. But that doesn't necessarily mean they'll lose the war.

Historical statistics of dead vs wounded indicate that Russia has 200,000 dead. 400,000 wounded. This may be slightly inaccurate due to Russia being primarily on the offensive while Ukraine is on the defensive. If the Russians have fallen back more than they have pressed home the attacks then you could very well reverse those numbers.

That doesnt even including the conscription that brought in 150,000 civilians into the military. 500,000 doesn't just mean soldiers killed in action, it also refers to the wounded. That doesn't even go into all foreign volunteers they were pulling in - Syrians, Indians, Nepalese, etc.

The only thing keeping the Ukrainian casualties lower than the Russians, is NATO equipment, along with the sheer number APC’s, IFV’s, and Bradley’s that were donated. That and maybe better training from NATO countries, such as operation interflex.
