From the Laurie Stoff book "They Fought for the Motherland: Maira Bochkareva's memiors which are on archive.org are very accurate Pictures of officers in Black uniforms during WW I some Russian staff officers from 1915 started wearing black uniforms as naval and air fleet officers. on the 9-10 July 1917 attacks the 1st Womens Battalion of Death took 24 not 100 POWs and 2 machine guns. The unit took 3 lines of trenches. it should be pointed out that German defense doctrine the forward trenches were thinly manned and the main line of resistance was over a mile to the rear
