A Texan living in Vladivostock. Retired and my pensions are in US dollars. So with the current exchange rate all is good.. Bought a new Chinese car, quality is not bad but paid about 50% more than what it sales for elsewhere outside of Russia. Electronics have gone up, some food has gone up as well but not that much... Parallel imports and products from Asia continue to come in so store shelves are stocked and full... If you're poor and make very little money, life is going to be expensive and hard no matter what county you live in. Thats just a fact of life.. The only difficulties I experience is getting my US dollar pensions into Russia due to the sanctions. Some banks are still on the SWIFT system if you don't mind opening new bank accounts when another bank gets shut down due to being sactioned. Traveling abroad isnt that difficult at least for me as there are direct flights from Vladivostock to a few Asian countries to include bus and train travel.. I own my house so don't have to worry about rent or a mortgage... Russia is a wonderful country and the people are absolutely the most welcoming and friendly people in the world. Absolutely love living here and calling Russia my home.

my parents worked at the Renault plant, after the French left production, the domestic car industry began to be produced at the plant, it would seem that such a decision should hit production, but workers began to receive much more wages than under the French, under the leadership of Renault there were constant staff reductions, specialists were constantly dismissed, output was reduced, after after Renault's departure, the cuts stopped, they started recruiting new employees to the plant, and salaries began to rise. now there are overtime shifts, if someone needs it, then he can stay for double the rate. under Renault, this was not the case, even if you really want to stay and work, you could not do it, under Renault there was no double rate, and they did not pay extra for processing

I am a marketing analyst from Vladivostok working in logistics. Since the war has begun lots of cariers like Maersk, CMA CGM etc left the market. Thus the niche for freigh forwarding has been growing rapidly. The volume of goods importing from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malasya and India via Russian far-eastern ports of Vladivostok and Nakhodka increased in times. The share of russian companies and fleet doubled in this market. So, here in the Far East we are quiet optimistic about the future.

This really isn't difficult. On the day that Biden declared that the Ruble was rubble, I was predicting Russia's economy would experience an economic boom. I made that prediction simply because I was aware that during WWII America experienced an economic boom. Why did it? Because during times of war Govt spending increases dramatically & Govt Spending is a major component of GDP. Yes, European countries that were selling to Russia stopped doing so, but the domestic Russian suppliers simply picked up most of the slack. Europe wouldn't buy Russian oil & gas, but in a world market, they just sold it to China & India, countries that did not sanction Russia. The expectation that Russia's economy would collapse was incredibly stupid & driven by hubris. Now if the economic roles of the two blocs were reversed & it was Russia's economy that was dependent upon European oil & gas, _then_ Russia's economy would've been severely hurt by a refusal to sell to them, but in a world economy the valuable commodities Russia was supplying to Europe would simply be sold to other customers around the world. Almost all of the hi-tech chips & such that Russia has been buying from Europe & the US they simply began to buy from China & India & other countries. The ironic result has been that sanctions that were expected to hurt Russia's economy actually hurt the sanctioning countries more. An incredible wtf example of shooting yourself in the foot...

Well, that economies grow a lot in war time should be no surprise, the Russian army need all kinds of technology and is generating a lot of demand both directly and I directly from its supliers, in the US during WWII everyone remebers how it took the country out of Great Recession, however very few remember the huge plunge in 1946, this is driven by huge government expenditure and debt, the Russian state has prepared for this with very low debt and a budget surplus before the war which was contrary to rational economics because with such a low debt burden running such surpluses only means schools and hospital are not being built. Sanctions work, the Russian government has just made the preparations, in 2014 they were not ready at all, and after the 2015 Shale revolution that shattered the oil price worldwide suddenly Russian agressiveness in the Donbas lowered(it was bad for Russia the government dealt with it by changing taxes in Russia in violation of the 1992 Federation treaty promisses and transfere all mineral wealth taxes to the Federal state, this resulte in huge very substancial lowering of the Budgets of a lot of Federal subject, but no worries Moscow region gets some of that even if they dont, Tatars dont need it anyway), since then they run huge surpluses to build a gigantic foreign currency reserve. Why? How do you think they finance this whole thing, they use monetary financing because they are blocked from finance from other places(this includes China since Chinese banks will be sanctioned if they assist), the issue is when they can no longer protect the Ruble, that will spike inflation a lot, the Ruble is already falling probably because the Central Bank is trying to reduce the rate of reserve depletion, at the previous rate it would be all gone by mid 2024, since they are unlikely to reach victory by then the Central Bank has to extend the time because if this happens one side will have to buckle either the war or the classical solution taxes.

When was the last time you bought a product from russia as a westerner? I honestly never bought one except maybe a vodka from many years ago 😂 this isnt south korea or japan.

I'm a Russian living in western Europe since a few years. I have friends and family members who work in Russian companyies. All of them told me they got a raise at some point after the sanctions as those companies started to earn a lot more due to their european competitors leaving. So while here in Europe everyone kept talking about how Russians are almost suffering from hunger, my family and friends were talking about their higher wages. And while all the goods got more expensive in Russia, it also happened in Europe and many other countries around the world. Here in Germany prices got up by 20-30%. Another thing is, a lot of job offers connected to war appeared. Such as work at construction in the newly taken areas like Mariupol which is paid very well (considering that no qualification is required and anyone is welcome to join).

Great video; just one thing I think should be added to your report: Russian agriculture is booming and this is no doubt a significant factor keeping Russia economically stable as a whole, and keeping basic food stuffs cheap for consumers in particular. And as I understand it, because Russia has been cut off from SWIFT and has much lower trade in western currencies (USD; Euro) Russia has less need for them. The exchange rate still has some meaning (hence the now higher interest rates) but much less so. The lower value of the Ruble to the USD or Euro should therefore not impact the lifestyle of Russians with regard to food and energy (i.e. gas and electricity).

There is global inflation, Konstantin. Here in the States we are again experiencing oil price hikes, food price gouging, etc. We have to import lumber from Canada (hurricane season) and supply energy-starved Europe with LNG, Ukraine with weaponry, pay for their military, their medical care, their pension obligations. It's difficult. Russia will certainly increase revenue and job opportunities with defense spending (Russia's foreign sales are high), but I believe the big picture is East (China, India, Brazil (BRICS)) Hardwood lumber is globally in short supply. Compressed sawdust makes an excellent source of combustion for modern stoves (used often here) Russia will need to re-tool its factories to accommodate the need for parts (appliances, cars, medical equipment) but Mother Russia is more resilient than we Westerners. Great documentary -- still hoping for peace here! These are exciting times

The United States is producing a record amount of oil, nearly 13 million bpd, and shattering LNG production daily. We produce the most energy of any nation, by far, we also export the most agricultural products - so coming from South Carolina I can't say I've experienced any of the "oil price hikes and food gouging" that you are referring to, and spending on Ukraine is less than .6% of our GDP, so again, I don't understand your source of the word "difficult." Nor do I believe Russia is more resilient than Americans - I am surrounded by them. Russia's inflating because their currency crashed and because they have huge labor supply shortages because they mobilized 350,000 of their population and another million fled. Entirely different from "oh inflation is bad everywhere." Your post is oddly fawning of Russia, coming from an "American."
@alexglanz7406 Жыл бұрын
Producing oil, selling it to the EU...yes. However, we do not have sufficient refining capacity. Propane has doubled, and heating oil is at least 25% over last year's prices. We historically had excellent export sales, but isn't China moving toward Brazil and Argentina for their soy and beef? Doesn't China own land, pork processing (Smithfield) with Brazil's JBS owning beef and poultry processing here in the States?. Our semiconductor production is insufficient, our trade balance is negative, and the major portion of prescription drugs is produced off shore in increasingly hostile countries. There may be lithium here, fertilizer potential, but the U.S. is 10 years away from self-reliance, at least. Our inflated military budget is many times greater than any country on earth. Yet, recruitment is way down Have you worked overseas or served in the military -- spent some time in Serbia, Nicaragua, or Haiti and seen how our ostensible "aid" has been spent. Russia's currency crashed back in the '90s. Despite the sanctions, their inflation is checked. Konstantin's documentary is very balanced. And if you have no inflation in South Carolina, you are blessed. Farming is a challenge, as is feeding kids and cars here. There is not one staple item other than eggs hasn't risen. Of course, our eggs come from chickens, not cartons.@@Macbrother

These days she's looking to switch companies, and the salaries start at 150K, with many willing to pay 200K per month to an experienced candidate with some extra responsibility. So yes, at least in Moscow the growth is quite evident. In the city where I live (Far East) the salaries haven't grown as much as the prices, so in reality people here have become poorer than pre-sanctions.

@@mrobocop1666 lol yeah sure. That 55 thousand about counts for crews of destroyed Russian vehicles. How many are "missing" so they wont have to pay money for families ? Did you check that or just went for another group for another time that had completely different method of figuring out casualties ? Why not just say Medvedev said two billion Ukrainian casualties already. And yes Russia can absorb casualties all day long apart from their birthrates being in downward spiral since fascist totalitarian dictatorships in unwinnable wars dont really inspire hope for future or economic stability. And on the other side Ukraine literally fights for their existence with morale to match. Going to be a long war.

@retroas2683 Жыл бұрын
Pfft. Yeah, right 😂 most of corporation owners are not even natives. For example Elon Musk was born in Africa. Do you really think they would stay in your country or go abroad like several German commies did in face of energy crisis? If Russia sanctions nuclear sector, you would face energy crisis worse than Germany is experiencing. What then? Russia has been preparing for years to turn the country as self-reliant as possible while USA literal can't sustain itself. It imports more than it exports and Chinese workers who work in China to produce stuff branded as American won't leave to USA, nor will China allow the major productions to be moved.
@Marvin-dg8vj Жыл бұрын
Russia is not like Western Europe . It is energy self sufficient , still exports oil and gas on a very big scale and is more or less self sufficient in food and metals . I am sure sanctions cause problems but Russia is not affected on the way other western countries or Japan or China would be.

I freelance in PC building&repairs, networking, etc. Year over year income average has grown 20% so I am doing great actually. To note, however: - average spending has risen quite the same way (not out of necessity though - I just can spend more, so I do just that) - average spending on food has actually decreased a little (3-5%) - not all of income growth can be attributed to just "getting more payment for more services rendered", but still PC market conditions are facinating recently :)

Salary growth is associated with mobilized citizens who previously received 30-40k rubles a month on average, and now they receive 200k rubles a month. For a such citizens, the increases in wages is about 600%, but if we decompose into those who did not go to war and stayed at their last job, then it will be possible to get this increase of 15% for every person

Its very interesting how yours journalist work can bring you so much experience and knowledge, glad you share it with world in a positive manner to objectively inform 💬 Also I heard that weakening of currency can be caused by buying assets and investing in stocks by private sector as to use strong currency before it can drop. I must say, that its still pretty amazing accomplishment, I cant imagine most of EU countries to do such drastic changes on economy, we are slowly falling down as interventions being made to stop it but it seems that banks are the only one to be able to do something with it as the economy is very fragile and decentralised all over the Europe.

In the 3rd year they take on paid internships and internships. A new metalworking plant is being built in the city and people are willingly hired to work there with training. So, we can say that in terms of income there are only advantages.

Before the war in Ukraine I used to work in Aeroflot, Russian national carrier. Sanctions have dramatically hit Russian aviation. The planes are still reliable and maintained well but the number of flights are very low and mostly domestic. That’s why salary has dropped and weak rubble adds oil to the fire. So I and many pilots left Russia because salaries abroad twice or even triple times higher because you earn money in USD and salary itself higher.

I live in a rural area 300km from Moscow. I confirm - a cart of firewood is 6000₽, there is a sawmill in our village and yes, they have been taking sawdust to a vacant lot and just dumping it for years. Not only that, in the nearest town of 7000 people, 2 new Pyaterochkas and 2 new Magnets have opened in the last year in addition to the old ones. The Volga embankment has been tiled, gazebos, benches and lanterns have been put up. Historic buildings, temples and churches are being actively restored. In the village itself, people are buying plots of land and building new houses, although everything was quiet for several years before that.

I have already been sayin this. I have friends that live outside of Moskow and they have been telling me and sending videos of how well their economy is doing. It's doing so well, in fact, that quite a lot of goods and services are much cheaper than they are here in the US. Sanctions always ever only hurt the ones doing the sanctioning and the sanctioned country usually does even better eceonomicly with sanctions in place. That is a historical fact.

But this summer and on we in our studio make on average 10-15% more than the last year due to shear volume of orders. Also my family little hotel made record numbers this summer. You are right. But there’s an important caveat. It is important to note that while short-term growth figures are positive, medium-term forecasts suggest that the Russian economy will face ongoing challenges. The growth rate is expected to decline to about 1.25% per year, which is below the pre-war levels, indicating persistent headwinds due to the prolonged impacts of the conflict and associated sanctions .
