Russian Forces Shocked! German Marder IFVs Secretly Arrive in Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) Berlin announced in January are already on their way to Ukraine.
After France's move earlier this week, Germany announced on Thursday that it will supply Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) to Ukraine to help drive out Russian forces.

No, thats one horrible Minister. We had the Chance of getting an ex general and decided to get one without any relations the the Bundeswehr. I am surprised they get anything done because the level of incompetence is unmatched. For example they dont even plan or order replacements for the Bundeswehr like other nations do. We deplete our arsenal and dont even Plan on refilling it : /.Our military industrial complex is ready to produce everything Germany would need and they state frequently what they can do, but despite the 100 billion extra money they dont get *any* orders. Without Marder, the Leopard 2 wouldn't make any sense either. The Ukrainian army will only be able to start a counter-offensive in combination with artillery, air reconnaissance/air force, battle tanks and the above-mentioned infantry fighting vehicles. However, the Russians T-55 and T-60 roll to the front .... Against a Leopard 2, Abrams or Challenger it's like going into a shootout with a knife .... 90% of time a tank in ukraine fights other things than tanks. T54/55, T60 or Leopard 1 are still dangerous to any vehicle less armored than a MBT and I dont want to face one of them without having anti tank weapons. The difference is, all Leopard 1s are modernized and have nearly the same optics and fire control than Leopard 2s and are much better fitted in fighting the 90% of targets than the crap the russians are pulling out of their warehouses. In 10% of time the Leopard 1 is unlucky or hopefully fast enough in retreating.

T 54 and T55 wont be the fron line Tanks. They replace the artillery they send home to refit them as they are in need for some critical not on field maintenance. They will face moderniced T-72, T80BVM and T 90M. Which I think wont be much of a struggle, since russias Crews are down right horrible and the command has no idea how to use them propperly. Anyways the most dangerous thing western MBT's will face are atgm's from air to ground and ground to ground.

I don't want to act as a smartshitter, but that cross on German gear is called the "Balkenkreuz", translating to "cross of bars" or "bar cross". It looks very similar to the Iron cross and yet, it's not the same.

They found out that painting a straith white cross on your vehicle makes it an easy target ( The US and UK also found that out the hard way with their colourfull roundels ). Thats why the Wehrmacht used straith black crosses with white outlines. The iron cross used by the German Bundeswehr also has those white outlines.

It's pretty much the same symbol German empire forces is WW1 used as well as the Reichswehr during the Weimar Republic years. The "Balkenkreuz" (bar cross) was used by the Wehrmacht and looks different, all corners are straight 90deg angled, not curved like on the Iron Cross.

Why would they remember that? Once Germany turned against Stalin and attacked the Soviet Union, they didn't seem particularly scared of Germany, did they? As I remember, Stalingrad brought the surrender of 90,000 German troops and the death of a further 130,000. So slick were the Germans that they turned up to fight the Soviets in summer uniforms, meaning they froze to death in the winter. So much for teutonic efficiency. And was it not part of Germany that bolstered the Soviet Empire post WW2, in the hideous guise of the GDPR? Let us hope that Russia loses this invasion and suffers massive government embarrassment, and the imprisonment of Putin, however do not imagine anybody is scared of Germany anymore. Germany has done everything possible, along with France, to have absolutely no part in this exchange and was forced to do so through fear of shame. Any IFV is better than no IFV. Yes, some of the designs (like with many army items) come from decades ago, the capability of said vehicle/item largely depends on the accurate model. Some of the stuff has been used by US from Vietnam, but upgraded beyond recognition.

I did my service in the MII3 in both the Cav and APC roles in Australia. We were well aware of the vehicles limitations and how to make best use of it. The current vehicles are a great improvement, but I am confident their crews imploy many of the same SOPs as us to protect themselves.

And, if they have their harts set on F 16's, then give them F 16's. U.S. officials keep saying it won't make any difference. And, that the F16 isn't what they need. MBTs were announced the same day, yet germany sent their tanks faster than the US while the outcry about US being slow is nearly none existent. Same with the top tier air defence NASAM and Iris-T. Announced the same time but germany was quicker to put money where their mouth is. I am in no way saying germany support more or better than the US by sheer amount of suppirt alone, but also due to supporting things germany doesn't even have. But all i am saying is that germanys reputation in the conflict to be so slow is blown massively out of proportion. It really boils down to germany bein horribly bad at PR for themselves with everything around weapon systems. I believe it is due to german government not wanting the international community to think of germany as a relevant military nation.

@@chrisdee216 pistorius is a blessing really, the best defense minister since at least Gutenberg (despite his imo unjustified ousting for is doctors thesis) , maybe even beyond. Yes, decision making is slow at many times, but it is rather for pure internal things like the car toll you mentioned. As german myself i agree that here it is double painful how slow things progress at times, absolutely true. But again when it comes to international decisions, particularly for ukraine, they are not more or less decisive than other nations in comparison. Again with the top tier anti aircraft or tanks, US was just as undecicive to send Ukraine nato MBTs, thus why both countries agreed the same time. Only the british were faster and only slightly. And if you want to count the amx10 then also france slightly, but that is not really an MBT and since France didn't promise any Leclercs they haven't contributed any MBT really. Not saying the amx10 isn't useful but it can't be used in an alike fashion to real MBTs.

Nonetheless there is an underlying feeling (in relation to their foreign policy I mean now) that makes me believe they are always acting with low confidence. That they could be more leader than they are showing. Something holds them back. I strongly believe that the way to a strong Europe only can be found with a strong Germany. But when you look at the decisions made last year you will find out it is progressing so slowly again. Defense industry doesn't increase fast (enough). The problems with their new tanks (Puma? Panther?)... The appearance of politicans sometimes is questionable, too. I assume the surrounding nations expect Germany to be the leader or even wish they were but Germany has not found their way yet. And so solidifies my opinion to look on Germany and to think yeah you do your stuff but it is always/often so unnecessarily exhausting, difficult and tedious.🤷🏻‍♂️ Correct me if I am completely wrong about it.

The Marder had a different role than the BMPs that were designed for the soviet doctrine. Therefore the Marder is much better protected than the BMP that can be penetraded by heavy machine guns.

As a former german gunner of the Leopard 2A6 I can say, both need each other, the Laopard AND the Marder. If the Ukranians take over the german doctrine (or most other NATO member doctrine), they won't have much trouble. BUT! Even the Leopard is not invulnerable!
