Russian Forces Shocked! Sweden Sends World's Greatest Main Battle Tanks to Ukraine

The Swedish Defense Minister, Pål Jonson, stated that Sweden is considering sending 10 units of Stridsvagn 122 Main Battle Tank to Ukraine. The Stridsvagn 122 is a modified version of the Leopard 2 tank series, which is an improved iteration of the German-made Leopard 2A5 tank equipped with a new armor package and fire control system that enhances its defense against ballistic threats.
The acquisition of the Strv 122 tank is a significant development for the Ukrainian army. The tank's advanced technology and powerful weapons make it a formidable weapon on the battlefield. The tank's ability to provide cover for ground troops and engage enemy tanks from a long range can change the course of the war in Ukraine. While the conflict in Ukraine is far from over, the addition of the Strv 122 tank to the Ukrainian army's arsenal is a positive step towards victory.

This tank is actually a German tank that has been upgraded by the Swedes. It is not a Swedish made tank. With all the upgrades, it is basically an equivalent to an Abrams M1A2. Very powerful and very difficult to disable.

Did you not hear them say considering to send tanks. This does not mean that they will or when. These countries were to send weapons 2 months ago and now only 20% that was promised has been delivered and Ukraine is almost ready for the offensive but they will not have the aid promised to them by May 15th so they will have less chance of pushing Russia out of Dombass and no chance at all of pushing them out of Crimea. These countries want this war to continue as they are are making money for their own pockets.

@@TheRaghorn That's b-sh-t. Sweden respondedvery quickly to the invasion already when the famous Russian column theatened Kyiv. Like sending 15'000 (!) armour piercing one man carryable grenade launchers. (I'm not a military man, so I don't know the English term.) The Ukranian defnce ministry actually made a special humorous "thank you Sweden" video. (A quite clever script.) I know of no other such video aimed at other countries. Later extremely advanced antiship missiles were sent, which helped stop an assault on Odesa. What Sweden cannot provide i quantity, we do in quality. Many of these systems are internationally sucessful export systems. Like the armoured infantry personell carriers, sold to 7 other countries so far, and of wich Sweden sends 50! Also the Archer mobile artillery system with extreme precision within 50km is being sent. (New communications systems are being installed right now. This is arguably the best of these systems in the world. Numbers and time of delivery is kept secret, as this is favourable both to Sweden and Ukraine. All Swedish weaponry are specifically designed to fight Russia, and much to operate under Ukraine like conditions (ie snow and mud etc). And all systems are NATO compatable. It is a pitty we don't have enough numbers of Gripen fighters to be able to send some of those, as all experts agree it is the most suitable modern (gen "4,5") fighter jet for Ukraine.

My grandfather was Swedish, his entire career in a cold-roll steel mill........ he told me that at that time, the mill had achieved the thinnest-ever rolling of steel into what, if any thinner, would be approaching translucence. He'd told me much about the steel from various regions of the world and without bias, explained why Swedish steel was of such high quality. As I worked 2 years in foreign auto parts sales, shipping and receiving, etc. he'd said I should consider cars from various countries and consider their age and degree of rusting. He then added that the general health and climate of a region can have a direct effect on the quality of the steel. It came down to colder climates appear to yield the better quality steel.

When the Swedish parliament has made a decision to send aid, they always realize it. (Unless it for some unforeseen external reason is impossible.) Although perhaps some nations don’t. Obviously there’s logistics and training issues that has to be taken care of before they end up in action. @leighkite1164, I do not think that it has so much to do with beeing approved or not by two, to say the least egoistic and obstinate countries, like Hungary and Turkey. We are certainly more than helped by the fact of true old Russian animosity that never has ceased. Swedes, and certainly Finns who from abt 1200-1809 was a part of Sweden, have lived with these menaces for at least 500 years. If you care for some short generalized history; "Nyen Fortification", in Swedish Ingermanland and now Russia, was established around 1611 by the Swedes but was then lost first in 1656 and then once more in 1703 to Tsar Peter I the Great, he called this place St. Petersburg. The Swedish king Karl XII had to make his wintercamp in Poltava, Ukraine and there he was defeated alongside with his ally Stephan Mazepa in 1709. The king fled to Turkey, of all places, but returned to Sweden only to be killed, by the enemy or war-tired swedish soldiers, in the Great Nordic War 1719. There were some minor wars until 1819 but after that the Swedes were completely out of men to support any more war efforts. Famine was the rule for many many years to come for the widows of worriors and their children. Since 1819 Swedes have had no wars, learned the hard lesson, and been neutral ever since. Ie, until the Russians made that impossible some 200 years later.

The 122 is a very capable tank, but not extremely different from it's ancestor Leopard-2.... BUT l think the real game-changer from Sweden might be the 50 x CV-90 . With the new Leopard, Abrams and Challengers Ukraine can dominate the open terrain. And then togheter with the heavy tanks adding the extremely maneuverable and well armed CV90's they will basically own all other terrain and then also with CV90 and Bradley's go offensive with mekanized and well protected infantry. Interesting pointe is that the CV90 is not designed to fight heavy tanks but it's very able 40mm Bofors gun can fire armor piercing ammo that can penetrate also a heavy tank. BUT with Russia now sending tanks from 1960-70-80 the CV90 are a substantial threat to them as well....

Don't forget the good old Javelins, and also TOW missiles, which don't just get fired from Bradleys. Russia's tank force is a dead man walking at this point. The Russians will be fighting back mainly with their own missiles - we'll see how many they have left after all the attacks on civilian targets this past winter. How sweet it would be to discover that those attacks on civilians left the Russians themselves even less able to deal with the Ukrainian military. Bakhmut took care of a lot of Russian manpower also.

What will dominate the battlefield is air superiority and anti air defense weapons, which is why Sleepy sick Unka Joe Biden won't give them any F16s or A10 warthogs or significant battle field counter long range batteries. What nonsense are you talking about! The Kiev junta attacked the civilians of Donbass in 2014 and nightmared them for 8 years. Or have you not heard of it? Germany and France acted as guarantors that the authorities of Kyiv will begin to implement the Minsk agreements they signed, end the war, and grant a special status to the republics of Donbass. Zelensky and his predecessor Poroshenko spit on all this, including their guarantors. they were playing for time and actively preparing for the forcible seizure of Donbass. The course towards joining NATO, the demand to place nuclear weapons in Ukraine - what was Russia to do? The RF Armed Forces are trying to minimize unnecessary losses among the civilian population, not a single city is taken into the ring, there is always the opportunity to evacuate. The only exception was Mariupol, where the national battalions hid in residential areas, evicting locals in basements and making firing positions in apartments. Mariupol suffered a lot, but look how quickly it is recovering. There is enough information on the Internet about this

I wondered... given that the Swedish military, notably the air forces, seem rather adept at sensor fusion, it would seem to make sense to have the Stx122 set up to get targeting information from UAV's, drones, and ground troops, so that it could fire from hidden positions, or at 'unexpected' ranges.... makes sense, no??

Stridsvagn can be prenounced stritz (like blitz), and vagn (like your about to say "wagner" sounds almost like "one"). "Strid" is basically strife or combat and "vagn" is wagon. Its like the german krankenwagen (ambulance). Im not dissing prenounciations here, just clarifying. Keep it up!!

You forgot the most important thing they can't build new ones as they used the obsolete sensors and optics from the Leclerc upgrade. The French put in the new optics and sold these to civilian companies who sold them to Russia. So they were good for fighting in the early nineties but not on a modern tank. The Russians used the engine/transmission setup of the Tiger just with a crappy diesel engine to replace the gasoline one. So it is basically the failing 1943 German Tiger engine that was known for its lack of reliability because of the overdesigned transmission connection. Soviet/Russian companies didn't want the engine as a backup generator but these idiots put it in the new tanks.
