Aria is one of my favorite bands ever ! Like every band, they had some up and downs in their carrier, but for me they had more ups than downs. During their carrier they improved their sound a lot, exploring different types of metal styles, such as speed metal, heavy metal , power metal and symphonic metal elements in their music . They previous vocalists ( Valery Kipelov and Arthur Berkut ) are great, and the current one is also very good ( Mikhail ), but i would say that Kipelov had a very special role in Aria's history, this guy have such a strong and powerful voice ( reminds a bit of Bruce Dickinson ) and he still sings with Aria in some special concerts. I've never been to an Aria concert, but i have seen a few live concerts on youtube and they sound amazing ! Aria is definitely a band that you should add in your setlist.

The dark, foresty pagan/folk-ish metal scene in Russia is fantastic, as is their folk in general. I also love their pure death scene, though my favorite Russian-language death band is actually from Belarus (Некросепсис/Necrosepsis). They also have loads and loads of good modern djent-y bands, with their appropriate virtuoso guitar players. I never liked their more traditional heavy metal stuff though, as most if it started back in the late 70's and 80's (yep, that was during the Soviet era and those bands were literally underground, hiding away from state censors at the time) with total NWOBHM fanboys eventually becoming more or less copies of Judas Priest, Maiden etc, some with nearly entire songs seemingly just stolen. So musically, they're not awfully interesting, though the whole underground aspect obviously is. Anyway, yeah. I'd like to mention the Siberian progressive rock/metal band "Extrovert" by the way, they're virtuosos the whole bunch (as is customary for that genre), but have a distinct vibe to them that is like a mix of Dream Theater and Pagan's Mind or something, with a Russian touch. They have released at least two records entirely in English too, but the pronunciation is not that great at all times, so even with their vocalists excellent abilities it's still better in Russian overall.
@СемёнСемёнов-ы1ь6 жыл бұрын
High five, man! Took from my tongue! Those molded NWOBH-copycats are sooo farting pity... But russian folk/pagan/traditional scene outshines all the third-rated nonames and is truly original and unique. And do not forget DVAR - they are one of a kind musical trip!

Mechanical Poet is, well, Mechanical Poet. Sunless Rise is an amazing technical melodic death metal band with killer musicianship!!! I have heard the scald album before and liked it a lot. I was aware of the band aria as well since they are so legendary. I should check out the albums that you suggested since they sound really exciting. Since being more of a thrash head I was drawn towards the Russian scene especially for the thrash bands that came out of there like aspid and shah. Russian thrash metal has a very unique style since it's usually highly technical with aggressive raspy vocals. The music is heavily Megadeth influenced with like extremely top-notch guitar work. I am not sure if many have noticed but they also have a lot of influences and similarities to aggressive heavy/speed metal bands like turbo from Poland. When I heard Russian thrash it did remind me of Satan's cavalry by turbo or kawaleria sztana

How do I know? I've been a fan of Aria since 2004 here in America as an American and I've actually kind of been to them religiously almost and have more from them than any other American including a one of a kind pullover hoodie that is a bootleg that you will probably never be able to find again so if anyone knows their debut and the fact that I also got the logo from the debut tattooed on my arm I think it would be me so I can guarantee without a shadow of a doubt that that cover is completely wrong it's closed but it's not the actual cover for Aria it's for the album done by the female metal band that was covering the entire album

If i had to name my favorite russian metal band, that has to be Sympuls-E (Melodeath). The way they use synths helps to achieve a very futuristic theme/sense that i love. Plus, the singer is a girl

Check out Arkona. Their vocalist is a woman who can sing clear-cut and deeply growl.

My favorite is Arkona. Also this band is actually Finnish but they do speak Russian for this band, it's more of a gimmick really. So if you want something bit colder listen to Doom metal band KYPCK.(Kursk). When I think of Russian metal I mostly expect something as cold as Ivan Drago's heart. So while their not Russain Finland is cold enough.tehe
