Soviet/Russian technology and manufacturing may not always be cutting edge...but it's built tough and to last. Such a interesting video showing it operating in an extreme environment.

That is an interesting looking plane. The only Ilyushin plane that I knew of was the IL-2 attack aircraft during WW2. I thought that the Antonov's were what the Russian's used. Good to know more about these. Thank you for the education! Once again - great video. I look forward to all your videos.

I wonder if the tyres heat up on landing an could be a problem if they melted the ice to the shape of the tyre making it hard to move when preparing to take off. I suppose a trundle back up the strip immediately after landing would chill the tyres down again. Good interesting video.
@tletter
@tletter Жыл бұрын
+Straight talking Perhaps a study has been done that answers your question. However as explained, there is much less friction on the tires when landing and braking is not used in favour of reverse thrusters due to the low coefficient of friction on the ice runway. In short, it's unlikely that buildup of heat in the tires on landing is of major concern.

Great action shots of that new Model Il-76. Of course you have to include the tailgunner footage from the combat model. I wonder if they allow high paying passengers to sit in the navigator greenhouse?
@cokeforever
@cokeforever 2 жыл бұрын
no and no, last one was produced in 1990 at KAPO plant; you could not sit at any money cost in any airliner's office since 9-11, penetrating a cabin is an offence and both russian and western crews are equipped with Tokarevs and Glocks to counter any attempt; also make note that all aircraft after 9-11 are equiped with four cameras overlooking the armored door to cockpit, rwo of which are concealed

+Andrew Tubbiolo What passengers were allowed to do in the the IL-76 has changed until now, passengers cannot fly on the IL-76 serving ALE. However, at one time, it was possible to see the view from the navigator's station - remember that these are charter flights so the rules governing passengers are more flexible.

That funny bubble below with windows is for the navigator and he sits above the ground surveillance radar. Today there is probably another radar system in this plane where the navigatot sat Soviets liked having a mapping radar, and nose radar like everybody else but their radar systems mustve been shit because every big soviet plane has a navigators observation seat as a backup

+Dylan McCallister As mentioned in the film, the glass nose of the llyushin IL-76 was a military requirement so that the navigator could locate remote runways and/or drop zones (paratroopers and airdrops).
